Traded Bryce Gibbs [traded to Adelaide] - (cont. in Part 2)

"they weren't going to go out of their way to get something done. Whoever wanted that trade had to come to them with a pretty significant deal and while they were happy to do it, they weren't going to go and push for it. But they made that clear from the start."

So all this was established before the trade period even began and rather than getting off his arse and being creative to try and get the deal done, Reid sat on his original offer without much movement in the hope Carlton would blink, then when they didn't play along with his misguided strategy he calls them unrealistic.

What a bumpkin!

How old is Gibbs? I thought he was about 28 y/o. Why hasn't he had a complete buy in until now?

Frank he has always brought in completely.

my comment is in relation to this pre season and more specifically in response of those who claim he wont be that interested after his request was not granted. His training efforts and physical condition really shoot down those cliched arguments.

Mate, Eddie was un-contracted at the end of 2013 and, as was Daisy Thomas who your club was balls deep into getting and got, would you call that destabilization also?

Actually no. As others have mentioned Daisy was injured and our thoughts only turned to him much later when due to his injury the pies started going cold.

Eddie got so distracted that he forgot how to play in his final year.

Its because of the success you had with that approach that you tried it again with Gibba.

If Gibbs still wants to go at the end of '17 and has had a similar year to '16, woud be more than happy to let him go for a pick in the teens and some steak knives.

He may well be 'encouraged' out the door if it hypothetically gave us the best shot at acquiring one or more of Hopper, Shiel or Wright.

Rudy I reckon that with two years remaining on his contract ( which is apparently very front loaded ) and if he has a blinder year then you are under selling him.

Well if you liked 'leading-goalkicker' Matty Wright and good ol' Sammy Kerridge then I am sure we can find another gun player to boost your ranks. How about *elite defender Jake Kelly? OR gun mid CEY? Maybe some seasoned experience with David Mackay? Heck you can have one of those AND our 2nd round pick. Don't worry, we are doing you a favour by freeing up salary cap space so you can target a gun player.

Are you related to dumb (reid) or dumber (roo).

Actually perhaps your really Justin, hey buddy how are those tears going. There there now, bunk up little soldier you can try again next year.

oh you really are a knucklehead.

so clearly you have no idea of what the hyde st band is in relation to your team - provides what i suspect uve just jumped on the bullies bandwagon.
I wonder if your even a member and if so how long buddy 1 year?

Im not going to restate all the reasons why wanted to keep him because its in the earlier posts that you clearly haven't read.

However i can assure you gibba is loving still being a blues player as evidenced by the quality of physical condition, training from and involvement at training. Not the actions of someone who does not want to be there old chum.

This threads about the Gibbs trade and 99% of blues fans are overly excited that we kept Gibba and can have him for the next three years. We are also very happy about the new kids and especially Marchbank. Pickett is even in better condition than we thought and is slowly building his fitness up.

Now Now young man i only commented on one of your spelling mistakes and that was in relation to the guru. Refer to him either as gurusos or Mr Silvagni but whichever you elect get it right or boot off.

Re your opinion of Gibbs worth - do you really think we care what a Footscray supporter, not even a member, who knows nothing of his clubs history has to say? The answer is no.

Hang on, so you are the policeman of the thread setting standards- that the Carlton list manager be referred to only by his correct name (the poster simply made a spelling mistake- he was not insulting Silvagni whatsoever), but it's okay for you to persistently refer to Adelaide staff members as "dumb" and "dumber" and in some cases "dumbest", as well as calling posters "knuckleheads" and "bandwagoners".

If this is the standards bigfooty is slipping to, then I am done. It's ridiculous that non-Carlton posters can't have a view on this thread within being ridiculed.

I don't buy into the Eddie being 'so distracted that he forgot how to play' in 2013 theory.
In the Age article, Gibbs says it was himself who weighed up for a year and then deciding to return home for family purposes, not the Crows trying to poach him.

Read the complete exchange Buzza.

Darthbards was coming in huffing and puffing and going to day 1 one of the debate. Did i say he was insulting him - no. Just want him to respect the great man and use his correct name.

From the other posters comments it appears Darth continually attacks SOS and Carlton so my treatment of him was appropriate.

Absolutely no issue with non carlton people contributing that's what its all about. But the key is adding value. For example the rohan connolly article is the perfect vehicle to debate and other than one or two the usual crow protagonists have curiously gone missing.

I have been called much worse and have no issue. Calling them dumb and dumber is a bit of fun just like I call j watson, jobeullum, for treating his brownlow like his own "precious".

My approach is to treat people in kind and i dont tolerate in any way abuse of my beloved blues.

DC why do you think he was even weighing it up?

The crows have been all over this from day one and they would have got their heads up from Gibba's dad which is understandable because he wants his boy and grandson closer to home.

He also said it was partly for family support and also one or two other issues. I suggest its these one or two other issues that Carlton will help him with.

That's your opinion and I respect that.
I was pointing out what he said in the article. Rumor and speculation is another thing all together.
Myself and most Crows supporters wish Bryce & his family all the best, except against us of course!

True its partly my opinion and partly what certain friends tell me.

The thing is the question of when the crows approached is actually left silent in the article, it was the missing question by Connolly. Therefore the article itself cant be used as evidence to state crows didn't approach him.

I actually believe it when you say that you wish him all the best - you've shown yourself to be the most reasonable of the crow bf'ers. However from what ive seen here and some of the Adelaide boards i don't i think I would use the word "most".

The evidence is pretty conclusive re Eddie though. Both his playing efforts and just general manner in which he carried himself showed something wasnt right. Eddie should never ever contemplate becoming a poker player.

I even remember Trigg, whilst discussing the revamp of our recruiting department, mentioning how far advanced the crows were and used Eddie as the example of how they worked on him.

Sorry if that has been mentioned but I'm calling bull on that Gibbs wanted to go back to SA for family reasons.
Gibbs is 28 or so and probably has 5 years left. The crows are entering their window while the blues are probably still 3 years away from even playing finals.
It was definatley a football decision to try and move.
That's just my opinion anyway

i think what today's age article shows is going was a home factor but not the only reason. The fact crows were using "family reasons" and some of their supporters were being really hysterical claiming Lozza had PTSD and the blues were quite unreasonable has now been completely blown out of the water.

Its logical that a couple raising their first child will appreciate family support however Gibba was strong in stating that Lozza is coping.

The other couple of issues he mentioned could be anything and I personally think the chance for immediate success ie playing finals was one of those.

However the key for us is that he has come in probably the best shape of his career and like ive mentioned before he still plenty of upside in him on both a personal level and with the team improving.

Not sure if this has already been covered, but I heard on SEN this mourning that the Crows had been into Gibbs for almost a year, before this years trade period.
What a disaster for them and to top it off Bryce looks like he's going to have a massive year.

That was a listener called in and suggested that about the Crows on SEN this morning, it wasn't mentioned at all by Rohan and Mark.

Im sure crows would have looked into his availability either way and it would have been silly for them not too. If port had the money to offer him i would have wanted us to have a good look at him.

Felt both parties had a right to reject the trade as value were just off. I would have traded our original pick 9 for him in a straight swap. Crows were also hampered in finding value to trade as they lost 2x first and second round picks with the tippett saga so I can see how it was hard for them.

Was a deal that could have helped both clubs if eventuated. Irony is crows should have had hi min the first place with a father son pick, the eligibility rules were pretty harsh on the SA clubs back then.

Yeah, if you listen to Ross Gibbs, the Crows have been into Bryce for years. The whole 11th hour stuff from Reid was smoke and mirrors. Gibbs may have agreed to request a trade at the last minute, but the idea the Crows had never entertained a trade until that moment is bullshit.

I think you've got a better handle on both rejecting the trade than most in this thread. Had the Crows got Gibbs for pick 15 and chips their supporters would have been very happy, which is a pretty good indication it wasn't a fair price. If you wanna snatch a contracted player from another club, you've got to expect a little bit of pain. Same in reverse had Carlton got two first rounders straight up. In the end, a fair price could not be agreed upon.

Funny that, given you're a Port supporter and it was Port who alerted the AFL to Gibbs F/S ineligibility. Pretty sure the Crows forgot to repay the favour too, with Brett Ebert not eligible but Port drafting him as a F/S anyway and the AFL being asleep like they were initially with Gibbs. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hardly surprising now that Carlton fans are getting excited by a few things Gibbs says in an interview post this whole thing and really expected anything different, what else was Gibbs going to say really?
I'm not sure Adelaide approached Gibbs first but I hardly see any relevance,he still has to want to go.So history clearly shows he didn't want to play for Carlton any more, and who could blame him.
Carlton are years off being anything more than a bottom side, the list still with over a dozen players not up to AFL standard and a fair few more if Silvinis ego driven imports don't come off the second time around.
My take will be Adelaide will have another crack next year and will eventually get their man.

We know you are a well known Carlton hater so its hard to really take anything you say seriously.

But to be honest most Carlton people were just hoping that after Adelaide couldn't get a deal done that Bryce would come back to club and be professional about the situation, put in a big pre season and get on with playing good football next year and not come back and sulk it up.

I am sure you feel the same about Marcus Adams who couldn't wait to get home after 1 year at the western oval.

Hopefully Silvinis folds faster than superman on Laundry day next year. If not the crows can go after Rockliff, Martin. Cripps or Shiel or another midfielder that is on the market

I'd take Rockliff,Martin and Shiel before I'd take Gibbs to be honest, although I can see the romance of Adelaide bringing home an SA boy.
I'd tread wearily around Cripps. Silvini was a defender who now seems to be obsessed with recruiting defenders due to his over inflated ego. They have one good player who is young, gets very little support and surprise surprise is starting to show signs already that it's to much for his young body. I'd hate to see Cripps not reach his full potential because of Silvinis bazaar recruiting strategies and neglect of their only decent player.I'm sure Carlton fans will still be happy to lavish the guru with praise whatever happens.

Lol, you fail English? That's unpossible.

My take is Adelaide will land Gibbs in a three way trade where we nab Bontempelli......
