I have more of an idea why this thread, Big Footy, and the world are pretty sh*tty at the moment: All that online harrassment wasn't just d*ckheads. It was politically-motivated - to make online so unpleasant that only the alt-right dipsh*ts were left online to spread their merry lies.

Probably because I'm left but against the SJW left. So I feel the need to make that distinction.

It's all anectdotal... I've personally seen more bullying/harrassment coming from the left than I do the right; I suspect that since social media leans left (younger audiance). Others may not have; but still, it's there, and if you* haven't seen it then you so need to open your eyes (and perhaps mind) more.

*Not you personally, a general you. English needs a personal and impersonal collective third person term.

I have little doubt that there are irritating, hectoring people on the left. The most interesting difference about the US election was how 'the left' were seemingly just as active in spreading spin about Clinton as the alt-right. The 'fake news' stuff I saw re-posted on FB was 50/50 between alt-right and Greens supporters. The avatars on Big Footy posting pro-Russian stuff in the US politics thread and Syria thread are a bit leftwingish in their rhetoric too. I am suss about their true motivations being 'left-wing' but they'll use the rhetoric and are more than happy to encourage divisiveness.

But I don't think there is a 'weight of numbers' in favour of so-called SJWs and I don't think there are r*pe threats from the left? On any relatively neutral site like Big Footy or Youtube, commentators who are virulently right-wing easily outnumber those that are virulently left-wing. But of course those virulently right-wing types love to go find a feminist channel or Twitter topic or a Guardian opinion piece so they can post about how many SJWs are in there. I think a search for 'mysogynist' would uncover far more right-wingers using the term than left-wingers.

There are obviously genuinely violent people on the left, keen to fight the facists in the streets and that same dynamic existed as the Nazis rose up in Germany. In my experience, pervasive, organised online harrassment has come far more from the right. The intolerant actions of the left that are always highlighted are when companies go into PR mode to remove someone who has said something racist or stop an action because there is a left-wing-inspired boycott happening. Bolt says he got death threats and I'm sure he did, but is there the sort of organised bullying you saw with something like Gamergate? Maybe the fact women get targetted so much more online is the sole reason for my perception of their being a difference?
