MRP / Trib. Cockatoo cleared of sanction for tackle on Gore

Defenitely not a sling , brought him down in one motion - head reels back just after his body hits the ground . Play on !
Unfortunately, I think the MRP as seen with the Cunnington decision are going to give more weight to the end result than the action

Just my opinion but I reckon it will be looked at and deemed reckless with the AFL going on about duty of care and Cocky will get a week.I'll be much happier if it doesn't come to that, but to me it doesn't look good.
Guess we won't have to wait long to find out.Finger crossed I'm wrong.

You can't suspend base on a vibe though, it wasn't high, it wasn't illegal in anyway. I don't even think it was a free kick.

Well after Cunnington's suspension the MRP could suspend you for pulling your socks up.

No case to answer for Cockatoo. Gore hit his head on the ground from a fair hard tackle. Unfortunate.... Cockatoo surely can't be suspended for that.

Nothing in it whatsoever. Wasnt even trying to hurt him. Was even a dodgy free kick, should of been play on.
Joke if he goes for that.

1 week unfortunately.
Never had eyes for the ball, and he didn't bump, instead he chose to drive Gore into the ground.
Couple this with the fact that Geelong blokes ALWAYS seem to cop a whack at the tribunal, I'd say he's gaaaaaawn!

Er, I thought they were not supposed to bump?

I think he will be fine, it was not a two action sling tackle.

Though this is the sort of thing, the MRP would probably like to grandstand on early in the season, but if it happens in the middle of June or September it would not even be looked at.

Bumps are perfectly fine when done right.....this was neither a bump, nor was it within the rules.
I watched it about ten times and at no stage did he have eyes for the ball, and this will hurt him.
I'm hoping for a 'nothing to see here' but I'm not optimistic

Unfortunately I reckon he's going to be done.
The reason is because the AFL and MRP look at the outcome, as opposed to did the player actually do anything wrong.
Much like the Cunnington one where the lunge from Duryea contributed to his head knock, just as Cunnington arrived to pick up the ball. I don't like either of those players but Cunnington kept his feet and didn't slide in, as per AFL rules, and you have to bend your knees to pick up a ball of the ground, especially one that is bobbing around and in dispute. I think Duryea contributed as much to the head knock as any other factor as should have been left as a footy incident.
Personally I don't think he did much wrong apart from getting him a bit early but that was because he put his head down to protect his face. This also resulted in Cocky not being aware Gore leapt of the ground a moment before the tackle which resulted in Gore being in a vulnerable position. Also didn't help that Gore slightly twisted in mid air as he was trying to control the fumbled ball, which resulted in him landing on his back and head whiplashing into the ground, instead of landing on his side.
Once again I think there's a few contributing factors which are just footy incidents in the end, was no malice or intent other then to tackle.
But sadly I don't think it'll be seen that way unfortunately.

If it's anything more than a week we should appeal. It doesn't deserve a suspension at all imo but two or three weeks is beyond the pale.

You arent supposed to have eyes on the ball when you tackle. Your eyes are supposed to be on the person you are tackling. Look away tackling ain't a thing. And bumping is what risks suspension, not tackling as long as you don't sling.

Oh dear.

AFL.com.au reporting a "three game ban beckons" for Nakia.

Get the pitchforks ready.

So clearly gone for three, then. AFL (in their pitifully transparent fashion) just massaging the media presentation to suit their agenda.

Better for them to have the outrage kick off now (and inevitably start to dissipate earlier) rather than wait until the MRP's findings 'come in'.

The really disturbing part for me in all this is what it means for how Nakia attacks the game in the future. Looks like he already has the reputation and the approach that is going to bring him into very regular contact with the MRP.

Can he change his game enough to avoid such regular scrutiny from them (and the inevitable longer and longer suspensions that will result)?

May have to alter his game fairly dramatically in this area to ensure he's out there every week.

Plenty of sympathy for him (as I like the way he throws himself at everything) but he may have to temper his approach somewhat to avoid his career being punctuated by way too many mid-season 'holidays'.

Still, comforting to know the AFL is just as vigilant in its desire to stamp out the elbow to the back of the head behind the play.

Yeah, but only because Cocky makes contact before Gore touches the ball. A second later and it would be nothing to see here. You don't have to have eyes for the ball in a tackle, if the player is not attempting a mark, iirc.

And you're not supposed to crash tackle someone who doesn't have the ball either. Derp!
1 week......sorry if that's hard for you to swallow.

And if Aunty Mary had a penis, she'd be Uncle Fred
