A "lazy" midfield does not smash WB in every stat.
King picks one incident to prove a point is just bullshit.
Why not wack WB for such poor stats - and point out the obvious ie. they got out of jail on Friday.
That's the real story not isolating errors from an otherwise dominant performance by us.

I don't see those things as mutually exclusive. Youre right in saying it's only one incident, but what does it say about their ability to work hard? Insult King all you want, the video clearly shows Adams, Pendlebury and Crameri all situated within 5m of each other as the Dogs exit their back 50 and a few seconds later, Crameri is 20m clear of both. It's even more disappointing when you consider that they would clearly be able to see that Goldsack was already outnumbered.

FWIW, the footage of Fasolo being lazy is more concerning to me. It's harder for the Dogs to hit those passes to free players up the ground of the forward pressure is up. Footage like that gives a little insight into why guys like Mayne and Blair get picked and why Kirby is probably still a fair way off debuting.

King did highlight more than one incidend FWIW.
I don't think our midfield is lazy. I do think Fasolo is lazy and when he's up the ground he doesn't run defensively as hard as his Bulldogs equivilent. He's not the only one and it's been an issue highlighted for 5 years. Then there is a general lack of pace that prevents us getting back as quickly as some teams (like the Dog's). In general our defensive runing isn't up to scratch and that's not just down to the midfield. That's a big part of why we lost.

The Dogs didn't get out of jail. Their defense holds teams better than ours generaly and it did again on Friday night. They defend better than mosty and won flag. They defended better than us even though we had a big ruck and first use advantage.

The turnovers on the other hand are a long runing issue and won't be adequately addresses until the list changes are made. It is directly attributable to skill level. As much as Adams is a good ball winner and as much as people say he's improved his disposal, he is a regular culprit. You can carry an Adams for his positive attributes but we just won't win a flag with the skill surrounding him. We carried Swan's often dirty disposal because we had more class around him and even then our disposal let us down too often.

I don't know why we recruit so many poor to medium skilled players but we always seem to suffer from poor disposal.

As for defensive running, that's a combination of personal, fitness, pace, game plan and committment. The coach has to be responsible for the last 2 at least.

Listening to Bucks in his interview today he said (or words to the effect) part of the review showed that our defenders were getting up to high that they probably got a sniff (at being able to have a shot on goal) and basically got out of position due to it.

Something they will work on "they" need to be better at and will be, can't be caught getting to high.

Said the crumbing and "hunt" in the f50 could be better. Talls need to take more marks.

Also

Kirbs is a long way off some really positive signs but miles off yet. He is young and has had few hick ups of what AFL asks of you and is still learning but positives signs on weekend.
Ditto Mitch McCarthy who kicked 3, said both players only completed about 40% of preseason and need more work.

Pity the sub rule is gone, I feel Kirby would have been a lot of fun coming on as a sub.

The irony is whilst we are critical of the high zone in that situation it caused a Bulldogs turnover from a rushed Bontempelli kick out of the backline. Taylor Adams directed the kick to Cox who for the second time in a minute was unable to mark the ball. Instead of our crumbers taking their second opportunity Suckling twice read the ball from Mason Cox's hands without it hitting the ground. Second time he didnt fumble it and punished us. So if Matt Suckling can figure out we are going to kick it to the tallest bloke out there why can't our crumbers? If our crumbers can't figure it out why can't our "defensive forwards" figure out to stand next to the guy who keeps getting the ball and is the most dangerous bulldogs kick?

No natural forward crumbing types in the team, have a fair few in the VFL however.

Kirby, Brown and Daicos all shown the capability to rove. Same with Broomhead.

Defensive "forwards" don't even get me started.

I just really really want Blair gone.

But given the weather, we need to go shorter so Cox should probably go too. Daicos needs to play. He's too clean and quick to not be perfect for Thursday's conditions.
If Blair took up cricket he could replace one of the Marshs ;)

At the the risk of channeling Robert Walls but given Moores indifferent form this year I would be suggesting.........

"Give him a run in the ruck"
If we are channelling Robert walls, suggest the wheels have fallen off

I think Beveridge definitely believed they 'got out of jail" he's not a fool. He knows a smashing in so many stats doesn't get you a win in 9 out 10 games.

If Geoff was a good father he would retire both of them.
A fathers love hath no bounds.

Geoff was pretty ordinary too.

Very (very!) over rated as a test cricketer

I will say it again King is full of s...t.

Why didn't he show you the full vision of that play?? That's right it doesn't suit his agenda.

As for highlighting Pendles "jogging" in one highlight reel.............please spare me!

You back King all you like.........I was at the game I know what I saw!

Like you said before bring on the Tigers!
Lets emphasise your point CFF.

David King is just a self promoting try hard.

And I'd add needs to get better tailored clothes (but that's by the by)

My guess is the one compulsory change. Aish for Varoce. Cox won't get dropped. We don't have another ruckman - White can't ruck. We don;t have another tall forward so even if White did ruck while Grundy was off the ground Moore would be the only tall forward. I'm not against droping Blair but I think he'll survive. Wwithout VFL it's hard for anyone who didn't play much JLT to push into the side and I hope we don't rush Elliot back into the 1s.
Aish will be in, you are right, with Varcoe spelling for his Rush of blood.
I actually think, Broomhead comes in.
Cox will stay.

But who out for Broomhead?
Logic, watching the game, errors made, suggests Blair.

But my instinct says as night follows day, Blair will be selected.

The point I'm simply making is - what is the story here, Our defense, or the premiers getting smashed and lucky to win.
Coll. stories sell papers and increase ratings so naturally he needs to use our defense to make a story that will rate.

If we capitalise on our I50 and win he has no story - but the true story remains, that the premiers were smashed in all important areas.

Do you think Bevo slept well on Friday knowing a team that missed the finals in 2016 dominated them so convincingly.

You forget the MOST important area...... on the scoreboard

If the reason our zone failed is because our defenders were up too high, sniffing a goal, then they should be dropped. I mean, FFS.

I'd like to see us hit some forward targets in space rather than bomb it to Cox, I think improving our I50 retention rate would do a lot to improve our two-way running. Bloody hard to change direction and keep running on turnover after turnover.

Richmond had 25 FA in an easy win? That's worrying for us, how much would they have won by otherwise?!

That said the club dropped the ball at selection last week by replacing Aish with a pressure fwd. That needed to be a ball winning utility such as Broomhead or Daicos.

That was odd one, I would have thought the most similar player in our 22 to Broomhead was Aish (or Sidebottom). Whats the point of holding over a player who probably needs more games under his belt if your not going to select him when a similar player comes out?

I don't disagree. I think the Dogs will struggle a bit due to the new rule about third man up, but it's still worth discussing how those opposition players get free because it's been an issue for a few years now. Our forward line has also been an issue for a while, so it's not as easy as saying we would have won had we capitalised on our I50s.

Look if we didn't have the history we do at the selection table I'd cop it, but because it continues our selection roulette philosophy who knows...

You've identified Blair as a problem but leave him in? Why is that? I'm guessing the idea is to drop Mayne a medium for a crumber Broomhead? Or do we address the extra crumber from within the list such as WHE (who I like offensively but don't consider a crumber) or Sidebottom (who I rate as the best crumber on the list)?

Yeah I was thinking a medium out, then with the added midfield depth from adding Aish and Broomhead, Sidebottom could spend more time forward. Essentially Blair, Broomhead and Sidebottom rotating through the forward line. But as I said once Elliot is fit he replaces Blair. When Varcoe returns I'd also like to see White left out with WHE taking his spot on the forward flank and Varcoe playing more off a wing or half back.
