Robbo and his insensitive tweet, or "Poor choice of words"

I find the social media witch hunt a bit much.

People bemoan ignorance and claim how little understanding there is of depression yet prefer to perform character assassinations rather than educate those that display that level of ignorance.

Should Robbo know better?

Arguable. He's a public figure in a highly lucrative position and should be more careful about what he says. He's also a football journalist and mental illness is not his area of expertise.

The point is if you want to help the perception and misunderstanding of the illness do something constructive.
Getting him sacked is constructive.

Are people biased against shorter periods of depression? Who even says its over? Is he meant to avoid exercise or something? Is he supposed to stay inside by himself for some minimum period?
Excercise is encouraged for mental health issues.

As someone who has lost a mate to suicide seeing him say this angrers me so much. Robbo should never work in the media again it is appalling that he would even think to type that let alone post it online.

It goes to show how ignorant Robbo really is, if he knew anything about depression he would know that footy training would be one of the best things for Fas right now as exercising releases endorphins and it forces him to get out of the house and take his mind off what is bringing him down. Personally I am proud of Fasolo for showing the courage to get on the front foot and deal with it.

It's time for the AFLPA to prove their worth in my opinion no player should appear on any show Robbo is on and no player should give an interview with him.

Robbo should pick up his club and crawl back into his cave were he belongs.

F U Robbo

How dare you say something like that? Unfortunately you are one of those people who have the perfect life without any mental problems who see everyone the same!
You should be ashamed of yourself for not only saying to Fasolo but the rest of the world who go through mental illnesses.

EDIT: NO ONE SHOULD EVER ACCEPT YOUR APOLOGY! and i hope no one from collingwoodfc will!

Depression doesn’t discriminate. It knows no boundaries. Young, old, rich, poor, fat, thin, beautiful, ugly, popular, nerd, loved, lonely- depression doesn’t see a difference and affects all kinds of people.
It's chemical imbalances of the brain.

Is it not the fans whose demands to know what's wrong with players health/private lives that drives this kind of reporting and pressure on clubs to provide it?

I'm not cynical of Alex issue, just don't see why we need to know about it.
They could fake an injury but then if he kept training and wasn't injured a lot of questions would be asked. Knowing the public scepticism and media in Melbourne it would just as likely fuel rumours that he's on a drug ban or fell out with Bucks or something like that.

He could stop training but then it removes his routine which is important for his recovery and harms his chances of playing which is his livelihood.

Also opening up to friends and family is often a key part in getting better with depression. It's a weight off the shoulders. Not for everyone, but for a lot of people. So if Fasolo tells his coaches, team mates and family then it's already out to 50+ people. They could keep it private but it might get out and all of a sudden it's rumour and innuendo and not on your own terms.

It comes down to Fasolo having an illness and therefore having every right to tell people if he wants. No one questioned Jesse Hogan not keeping his illness to himself. They knew it would get out, so they went on the front foot an announced it. There shouldn't be any difference between a mental or physical illness.

Shows that the stigma surrounding mental illness is alive and well.

Seems as though having your body let you down is socially acceptable, but your mind letting you down is less socially acceptable. We like to think of ourselves as calculating, rational adults who are in total control of our actions. So when confronted with the notion of not having 100% control, not being able to cope and do your job etc, it's uncomfortable.

Stop being a bunch of whining nancy boys. If Fasolo is back training it suggests the treatment must be working. Already. One of the problems with today's society is that everyone gets hurt on behalf of everyone else. If Fasolo has a problem with Robbo they'll deal with it and however hurt your own feelings are doesn't matter, at all.

Why? Where is it written that if you have depression you are not allowed to leave your bedroom?

Why does Robbo need to indicate 'drugs are working?' because he is seen kicking a football?

Unless Fasolo training is part of the treatment plan ...

Fired? He's no more cynical that 99% of the posters here. I think he's a lousy football journalist. For that he should be fired. But if cynicism becomes a crime the BF will be shut down.
This is big footy. We aren't chief football writers of the biggest newspaper in victoria. He clearly has a responsibility he has failed

Training being part of the plan is a bit at odds with taking time away from the game.

It's to do with no pressure at training while being around club mates and support while excerise produces a brain juice called endorphins that makes you feel good.
