Neil Balme confirmed on sen when it was made public that only the payout would be in the salary cap in 2017 , and we couldnt divide it into 2 years so 100,000 in the 2017 cap. He went onto say that is was similar to when players take pay cuts to fit other players in and the remainder would be used to pay other players upfront

the yarren thing doesnt work that way. you payed him out the 100k a year lower pay, but the entire contract goes on the salary cap, as he was still on the "books" so to speak.

I'm not certain, but I know we have a couple of mill & change spare, so it's not a great issue for us.

We also have Swallow, Waite, Thomas, Thompson and Gibson hanging up the boots over the next 2 years so there's the best part of 2-2.5 mill available to keep who we need.

Mason took a good contract when there was interest at other clubs. You need to remember that he has also missed a shitload of footy due to injury. It's a good and fair contract at this point.

Im extremely confident with Rioli and am over the moon he is at Richmond, But the initial excitement doesnt mean alot if the junior potential doesnt translate to AFL football.

Tambling,Murphy,Gibbs,Kreuzer,Swallow the list is endless , 6 game sample size is way too early and i dont believe even Jacob Weitering,Josh Kelly,Whitfield,Patton or Patrick cripps would have been on $500k in their 3rd year of Football

Dustin Martin was shopped around and was clearly the best junior in a very very long time, He shopped around and came back with tail between legs to sign for $450k.

$500k for a 3rd year player (unless clearly a judd) is extremely high. just my opinion but i would say $300-$350 would be Rioli's range next 3 years

You've made this point a few times now and, upon a reasonable assumption you know a bit more about your list than we do, it seems sound. I think individuals here are picking up on random 'arguable points' for the sake of it, or because of some extreme anti-Richmond sentiments.

It is interesting to see you've also got a whole of cap space available, as it seems does St Kilda, so what was looking like decided advantage when we first found out we have a 'war chest' isn't looking like it's as much the case as many of us would have supposed. If that's the case then, as you say, you'd be well placed, beyond mere loyalty, to match a bid for Dusty if he decided to take an offer from us. Like others, I'll just stay in denial about that for a little while longer though, thanks.

(One point I will make though, is that if our offer is a 'mere' $200K p.a. over yours, are you sure his loyalty extends to $1M less over five years?)
