NFL 2017 NFL Pre-Season Discussion

Joe did well for himself no doubt. Winning the SB and having the play-off run that he did. Just screwed it up for everyone else.

Him and Eli, go all god mode during playoffs. Best time to do it.

(although remember people Jay Cutler was on more money than any QB in the NFL two years ago, blame that **** Phil Emery for inflating the market)

At this rate Kirk Cousin might play under the franchise tag in 2018 for $50M...why sign a long term contract now?
Nice one Brasher, but.... after playing under the tag in 2015 at $19,953,000 and then this year at $23,943,600 ($19,953,000 x 120%) his Contract number under the tag in 2017 is actually just under $35 million ($34,478,784 = $23,943,600 x 120% x 120%).

If you go all the way back to 2015, there were quite a few QB contracts signed that year:

Cam Newton: 5 years $103.8 million $41 million guaranteed
Russell Wilson: 4 years $87.6 million $31.7 million guaranteed
Ben Roethlisberger: 4 years $87.4 million $$31 million guaranteed
Eli Manning: 4 years $84 million $54 million guaranteed
Philip Rivers: 4 years $83.25 million $37.5 million guaranteed
Ryan Tannehill: 4 years $77 million $21.5 million guaranteed

The Redskins could have signed Cousins to any of these Contracts and they'd be in a better position than they are now. Apart from Eli Manning who had $54 million guaranteed the rest got less money guaranteed than Cousins has earned by getting tagged twice in a row.

Chiefs fired GM John Dorsey.

It's a stunning, baffling move. Like coach Andy Reid, Dorsey was heading into the final year of his contract. Owner Clark Hunt informed Dorsey he would not be receiving an extension, essentially firing him by way of forcing him out. Dorsey was hired to do Reid's bidding. There had been no indications of friction. Reid's already mammoth power in Kansas City now increases. It's hard to know how much of Reid's credit Dorsey deserved, but on the surface, he did an absolutely fantastic job during his four years with the Chiefs. He won't be on the open market for long. A Ted Thompson acolyte, Dorsey has been mentioned as a possible successor for Thompson in Green Bay.

USA Today's Tom Pelissero reports Derek Carr's five-year, $125-million extension contains $40 million fully guaranteed.

According to Pelissero, the deal includes $70 million in total guarantees. Those numbers put him below Andrew Luck, but he did edge him out in average annual value. More interestingly, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the deal "features a delayed cash flow" which will both help the Raiders re-sign players like Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper and allow Carr to earn more money after the Raiders move to Nevada, which has no state income tax.

I know that's the biggest contract ever, but I'm slightly disappointed

Thought it would push 150
Wait for Stafford's contract - that's the one that will push the boundaries in a big way IMO

Did not see that coming. Well it makes it interesting for Ted Thompson with members of the board talking about Dorsey or Wolf replacing him last year.

AmericanCrow -- Any updates or inside info on Gareon Conley's case? It's been about six weeks since we were told the case would take about six weeks.

Honestly do not know. But seeing how he is on the Raiders, seems to me his indictment is a given no??
