Clubs tend to trade for rucks nowadays or pick them as rookies and wait years...

We've had very early picks the last 2 years, I think the list management team has made a decision to shore up other positions in the rebuild first.

We are still a couple of years off knowing if SOS is any good. Personally I don't he was dealt that bad of a hand.
He has so far had the use of 5 picks inside 25 including Pick 1 and 5 from the draft. He also been able to trade out 5 players who have had value inside the top 25. That is a bloody lot of assets he has used.

SOS wasn't dealt a great hand when he arrived from GWS but he has played that hand almost perfectly. He hasn't nailed every trade but he has done very nicely leveraging a very ordinary list into some top end talent through excellent drafting. There are a few placeholders / deadwood for want of a better term but it goes with the territory when you turn over huge numbers as we have done the last couple of years.

I miss Tuohy for his elite kicking but we're trying to build a young elite list not a mediocre older list, and sometimes you have to give away talent to achieve that.

Correct....how about we try to trade Murphy along with Gibbs?
Ducks for cover!

Had we secured Tomlinson it would have cost us Charlie Curnow. I say thank God we didn't get Tomlinson.
Actually we rated Curnow above McKay but we were worried that Adelaide would take McKay if we didn't select him at 10. So Curnow slipped to 12 but if we didn't have the extra pick we would have taken Curnow and left McKay on the board.

Yep.

I don't like it, mind; I think the issue has more to do with the fact that last year, we had Tuohy playing true back pocket, with Doch being intercept and link whilst Simpson played +1, so all three got more space and gave each other a chop out disposal at all times, where now both have to play far more accountably and so have struggled a bit more. Don't think this is a huge slight on him - I think he should be our next captain; bloke's a thinker and a doer, so will be like having a playing coach out there - just, that he's not instinctively an inside player.

Will admit, though, that the biggest impediment that Docherty has to playing midfield full time is his habit of hacking the ball forward by foot when in trouble. If he's playing outside, so he gets more space, watch his disposal suddenly seem elite for a bit again.

Agree.

Whatever plans we had prior to the trade period did not include Adelaide making all our other deals 10X more difficult with their day 1 ambush, and Tuohy choosing a destination club with zero trade currency to work with.

SOS did brilliantly to walk away with Marchbank and pick 5 intact, all things considered.

Yep I agree. Those two things ****** us royally. Especially the fact that they showed interest in Bryce but then offered sfa for him.

The game plan will evolve as the list allows it to.

We're ultra-defensive now but it's madness to think that won't change once we've got the tools.

Bolton is creating a learning environment for the players. There's absolutely nothing wrong with teaching the defensive side of the game first - in fact there's no better place to start.

Spot on.
Not too many ruckman get drafted early now. IIRC it was Grundy.

Terry was a unaccountable ball magnet as a player and an all out attack coach.

I'm not surprised he doesn't like it much.
He's right to a certain extent - numbers don't lie. But its clear Bolton is teaching us to defend first, then we'll increase our attacking style from next year.

In my opinion i think he has done pretty good, looks like he has picked well in his first draft, remembering also he got a great pick for Bell from Brissie, turned two picks in the 20's for a pick 12 from WB's and held out for Charlie at that pick. 80%of that years picks have taken home a RS nomination already and the only one that hasnt is Harry - who to me looks pretty impressive.

In summary it might be early days, but for mine he is a massive improvement over what we have had since the draft was introduced.

Not normally one to pass things on but if Dusty leaves Richmond Sydney is looking the club to land him.
Richmond will match any offers made. Sydney will give up Ried and another (have heard names but not sure on that) to get it done appealing to Richmond's needs.

Source I have only passes things on if he is confident in his Intel, has been right on a few occasions before.

Reid to Richmond is bad for our hopes that they'll overpay for Levi
Definitely.
Collingwood are still interested but it would take Richmond away from him so his value will fall unless someone else steps into the ring.

The 2015 Draft will be long remembered as the year we rebuilt the club
