I find it a massive stretch to believe that even the AFL would pre-emptively rig a game due to unfounded rumours of a player having an out clause to his contract.
It's laughable.

Greg Denham is claiming Priddis retiring is just a dummy spit by him about being dropped (under the guise of injury) and he still wants to play. Rucci hears that, adds it with the simple thinking of Pyke wants anyone he can get from West Coast cause he used to be there and you've got an article.

Are we happy to see players suspended for this?

I don't like to see ugly incidents and am all for trying to reduce them. However I've seen the tackle many times and can't see a suspension in it no matter how hard I try. I find it quite rediculous really.

Of all the incidents they highlighted last night in comparison, the only one that looked bad was cam McCarthys pile driver.

Just think we are inching closer towards no tackling.

I think Brownlow ineligibleness (is that a word?) should be a layer of punishment the tribunal can apply in cases that are genuinely serious. One weekers for tackles or jumper punches aren't what the rule is there for. In the old days you had to belt someone to get suspended.

The MRP penalty is two weeks not one. He gets a week off the initial penalty if he accepts it without contesting. He doesn't get an extra week, he just gets the original penalty should he contest.
Why is this so hard for people to comprehend?

I don't like it. Crims can get a sentence discount of about 40% for pleading guilty because it saves court time, money and victims being dragged through a trial. But how can the AFL justify giving a discount of a week (which is 50% in this case) for pleading guilty to a footy penalty? Are the Tribunal members lazy and wanting to avoid a hearing if at all possible?

I have no problem with players ducking, I hate the umpires paying over the shoulder free kicks for it though. The umpiring in the Collingwood match was brilliant because they just called play on when it happened.

It's because it gives the illusion there's no rules issues. 'Look the club accepted the decision, lets all move on'

If you jumper punch someone and get CAUGHT 3 times in a season you've likely done it 30 times. That isn't the fairest part of a Brownlow.

There were a LOT of missed throws...but that is par for the course these days.

While ineligibility is probably the correct term, I reckon the more words we can come up with to describe why he won't get a Brownlow this year is a good thing.

its a novel concept, but imagine giving them the power to essentially adjudicate Brownlow eligiblity independently of all the stuff they're already struggling to get right.

Like anything that changes (AFL rules included), you sometimes don't know the full implications of the changes until they are tested.
