How do you figure? Eagles lose and we win and we're half a game outside the 8.

We then just need to win all remaining games and have each of Essendon (Adelaide), West Coast (GWS,Ade), Melbourne (St Kilda? Collingwood?) and Saints (Richmond, Melbourne) drop 1 and/or Bulldogs drop 2 (GWS, Hawks).

It's possible. But far from probable.

I did (as above). I don't follow how West Coast winning is better.

West Coast is better in the short term, St Kilda is better for finals, as if West Coast win, they still have to lose two, if st kilda win, they only have to lose one (and they play melbourne and richmond, both would go in as favourites against them) West Coast play Adelaide and GWS, it is better to have both teams only to have one to lose, than one to have two and the other below us (Obviously we have to win every game).

To me the game is getting so dangerous, we could see a serious injury before too long. Then of course, in typical AFL fashion, they will shut the gate when the horse has bolted. There are a few things that IMO could/should be looked at, as I think they could be contributing factors.

Firstly, ban the chicken wing tackle. I know we have experts using this tackle, but it is dangerous.
Secondly, when a player is bending down trying to win the footy, and gets tackled from the front, he should be awarded the free. Umpires tend to take the easy way out here and say he had prior, or ducked. Wouldn't you duck if you saw Mummy's knees heading your way. I bloody would!
Ban tackles that take both arms, but this must mean that umpires are very strict on throws, passes, gives and hand offs when players have a free hand.

Will the AFL look at ways to make the players bodies safer? I doubt it! They seem more intent on having the umpires read the players minds, and decide if he really tried to keep the ball in play, or if the miskick was intentional.

Banning tackles that take both arms is pointless. The tackles that are similar to the Grundy one will be over before the umpire reacts and blows his whistle. On top of that, it's not fair on if a tackler is just trying to stop the ball being disposed and not dump them to ground.

He is correct;
St Kilda play Melbourne and Richmond
WC play GWS and Adelaide.

If St Kilda wins then they will be on 40 same as WCE, then we only need them both to lose one game to either teams they play later.

Of course we need to win all ours.

GWS and Adelaide will be tough opponents for West Coast. It's easy to see them dropping those two games.

St. Kilda though face a depleted Melbourne and a Richmond side who seriously shit the bed last time. It's probably better for us if St. Kilda drop this game.

Saints winning is the best optionfor us long term. Assuming current form means anything over the remaining games - which based on this season isn't a great assumption.

A draw is the worst option. I'd rather Saints win, personally.

If West Coast wins, they still have to win two games from Carlton, GWS, and Adelaide to mathematically prevent Hawthorn from jumping them. If they lose, then they'd need to win all three.

If St Kilda wins, they have games against Melbourne, North, and Richmond. These games are much more winnable, but they would need to win all of them to 100% ensure they finish above the Hawks. If they lose, then they rely on Hawthorn dropping a game to ensure finishing above them.

A draw would basically be a win for both of them given our percentage. West Coast would need to lose 2 of their last 3 games for Hawks to possibly jump them, and the Saints would need to win all their games (and maintain percentage) to stay ahead.

A Saints win means that WCE and the Saints would need to win all their games to prevent any chance of the Hawks jumping them. Both teams would be playing two top 8 sides, with WCE playing two top 4 sides. And if the Saints win all their games, that means they have to beat Melbourne, which leaves the Dees vulnerable to being jumped.

A WCE win takes the Saints out of the equation assuming 4-0, and now WCE would only need to beat Carlton at home and one of GWS away and Adelaide at home to ensure finishing above the Hawks. Still tricky for them though.

If saints win, they deprive West Coast and they themselves only matter if they win all four. That includes taking one off Melbourne, who are thus guaranteed to not make 13 wins to threaten us. So saints only get above us by beating two other threats to us.
Best of all is saints beat WCE and Melbourne and then drop one to Richmond, so they all three threats miss when WCE drop one more to GWS or Adelaide.

Wbd need to win two of GWS, Port, us. Given that we must win to matter anyway, that means that bulldogs must win both of GWS and port to finish on 13. If things also go right with saints Dees and WCE missing then we're in regardless of Essendon results.

I'm super unpopular here in the fact that I don't care if we miss finals.. it's not going to be our year and I feel it will rejuvenate the older guys to have a year off, get Jaeger right sign a couple of very handy players and go hell for leather next year

I agree, all the discussion shows are total rubbish, AFL360 is the worst.
It's set up to discuss everything about what's happening in footy, but the dribbling, drunken, dimwit who does most of the talking makes it unwatchable.

I love The Bounce. Apart from a bit of Hawthorn bias, it aims to be funny, and it actually has more serious, sensible footy discussion than any other show.

Definitely each to their own, but I couldn't stomach Bounce. Much preferred 360 when I last had Foxtel a couple of years back.

Finals experience is huge. Imagine the young blokes getting to prepare for their first final with Hodge, Burgoyne and Roughead alongside them and Gibbo during the week. I give us about a 10% chance of making the finals but while there's still a chance, i'm hoping for it. The best thing for our development.
