Autopsy Rd 20 The one that got away

I know sport
Everybody knows that weitering is one of one thousand footballers carrying something or rather at this end is a football season
If somebody didn't know that they should try visiting a dressing room after a game
Horrible excuse for being a benign footballer

Needs to toughen up and not carry bad habits into his career
Just like Cripps ? too slow.......

Agree that was the miss !!
bottom line, cas had the chance to rectify that and put us in front with 90 seconds to go. very likely we wouldve held on from there.
it is NOT EVEN funny how many times he has missed dead set easy shots in the last 5-7mins of games that would make a difference: v richmond, melbourne , bulldogs (i think adelaide) and now essendon- so for all the improvement when the pressure is on, im sorry to say he folds....consistently.

I am not disputing anything you have stated, we all know he is not the future and had we recruited better in the past, we wouldn't be in this predicament. But rather than everyone bagging him for his know limitations, what other viable options do we have right now, as a forward/chop out ruck option.
I know what you mean
But it's time to not make two wrongs into a right
Bad recruiting
Plus keeping guys way too long
Isn't the answer
Letting him go and moving forward with whatever we gain is

He really is another that's borderline AFL standard
If we can metamorphose him into something useful we're ahead
If we can't it's ok too
He's not crucial in my opinion

As long as we have a go

When a defender is being beaten by an opponent in a team based defensive game plan - I guess it begs the question - where is the team? Who wasn't filling in the hole into which the attacking player was leading? Why not? Who wasn't coming in third man up to help? Why not?

Comments about Weitering being soft seem to be mounting each week as a popular meme - and yet I don't see much analysis of what is going on as far as the team based defensive game is not working - or not.

Weitering is playing a long way from 100% fitness and has been for some time. Maybe some loose players or mids could if their game and help as required when required. Too much rewarding of 'intercept' soft marking on here and not enough rewarding of genuine team based defensive acts - the stuff that Weitering does week in week out.

Weitering isn't very defensive orientated
That means he likes to play the game on his terms
He won't be afforded that's luxury in the AFL
The game won't t adapt he will need to do the adapting
Why the hate for a 2nd year player?? Bizarre

Why the hate for a 2nd year player?? Bizarre
What's bizarre is calling constructive criticism "hate"
You must be from the generation of " self entitlement' right?
Yes or no?
Under 25?

Lol

Look mate football competition is about being better, meaner, stronger, hungrier than the opposition
You do understand competition right!?
It's not about safe spaces

My name is easy to remember, let's have a chat about him in 3 or 4 years time cheers.

Tippa had 8 of his 16 possessions in the last quarter. I can't remember if he kicked 1 or 2 in the last. It wasn't Dennis's fault
I never said it was Dennis's fault...I questioned whether he ran out of legs. Otherwise he should have been on Tipingwuti in the last instead of Simpson, and at times Plowman.

I can understand Bolton trying it as the midfield was a weakness but it showed that Docherty's future is as a defender. Just too good back there.

It's not just about the individual but how the defenders gell and work as a group. They need to play together and support each other. It's why Willo plays and why we need to get Byrne in. It's why Rowe did so well. That big body helping the youngsters was a positive. Need to let Marchbank Weitering Docherty Byrne Williamson keep playing togther supported by ASOS or Rowe in 2018. Will become our greatest defence
I think someone is missing. Name escapes me at the moment but I seem to remember he has beast-like attributes.

The negativity after this game shits me.

Yes, Levi and SOJ missed ones they should've kicked.
Yes, Levi got beaten by Gleeson in a contest.
And yes, it would have been nice if Murphy and Gibbs had forty touches each, but we know we have the competition's shallowest midfield.

But yes, there were a hell of a lot more bloody good moments on the day.

The Bummers had a full strength side, and we were missing Cripps, Ed Curnow, Cuningham and Williamson.

Before the game, a majority believed we were going to be comfortably beaten, yet we only lost by eight points.

It's universally recognised that we are rebuilding and are carrying too many players that aren't up to AFL standard, but we still were only just edged by a probable finals team.

Some of you need to get a bit of ******* perspective.
Add Rowe and Silvagni to the list as either would have been handy on Hooker

He goes in every now and then as a change up and it's as much to make him a bit less taggable I think.

Fev was a head case. But I'd bet my life that if the game was in the balance late in the last quarter against * at the MCG he wouldn't be giving up the chase.

As for who's a better option, yeah we're going to struggle to replace him but I can't imagine myself saying "Geez, wish Cas was out there". McKay can give Kreuze a break in the ruck, Charlie and Jack play forward, throw Weiters in there if need be, to be honest, I'm not really concerned about Levi not being in the team. Last year people were saying the same thing, that he's SO crucial to our structure but we did fine when he was out.
Levi played 20 games last year. The 2 that he didn't play we lost.

Here's the issue, though.

The media/pundits don't know how to evaluate a ruckmans performance. Is it purely on hitouts to advantage? Is it impact on the match? Goals kicked, possessions?

Kruezer has been HUGE this year, but that won't be enough without something clear for the media/whoever adjudicates AA to point at to prove him better than Ryder. That, and Ryder plays for a side that will play finals, where Kruez plays for us; it's similar to how Stefan Martin flys under the radar, again having a stellar year, without any of the accolades that his opposition that play higher up the ladder obtain.
Jon Ralph didn't have Kreuzer in the AA side last week, also didn't have him in the 40 man squad, also didn't have him in those who were unlucky to miss out on the 40. That's the kind of intellect that we are dealing with.
