I have a suspicion that the Suns will offer Steven Motlop a large 3 year deal netting the Cats band 1 compo which the Cats will then send to the Suns for Gaz.

Everything about the age demographic on their list that you've said, I agree with, but you're dramatically underselling what Ablett would provide them.Word is that they're targeting Menzel. However, apparently, at this stage if Menzel leaves the Cats he'd like to head home to Adelaide.
Absolutely, Thy.
Even if Geelong arrange a sweetheart deal with Gold Coast to create a first round or sandwich round (between 1st and 2nd) compensation pick to pass along for Ablett it's going to cost Geelong money and likely a second player on top of the one Gold Coast signing to get him home due to the salary cap.
GAJ isn't close to the player that he used to be. Don't get me wrong, he's still very very good (always will be) but he's not going to be the difference between Geelong winning and losing a premiership. In many ways I feel that it's backwards thinking for a team that has looked forward like few others over the past decade. After all, this is the same club that pressured Jimmy Bartel (and probably others) into retiring a year or so earlier than he (they) would have liked. TO bring Ablett back after all of that smacks of desperation.
So if they want to lose multiple younger capable players to bring Ablett home let them go right ahead. That'll be one or two less Geelong players we need to worry about when we're up and about.

That's a bit telling, really; for all the rest of the AFL loves to talk up our demise as one of the big 4, we still put bums on seats.
Random stat going into rd23.
Top 5 AFL clubs for most attendees in 2017:
977,093 Ess
955,647 Rich
952,768 Coll

Especially mine ! Haven't missed a game sitting on my lounge in .... 40 years..That's a bit telling, really; for all the rest of the AFL loves to talk up our demise as one of the big 4, we still put bums on seats.

Rumoured to be worth almost 3 million more than Richmond's, over seven years. Just insane; they're not that close to a flag, not even at all, that one Martin won't make any difference.
He's the sort of old bloke that you're obliged to leave your best defender on or tag, just so he doesn't remind you why he used to be the best running round. Just his presence makes whoever runs with Selwood or Danger a bit less effective, as who's going to risk Ablett getting off the chain? He thought that the treatment that we gave him was rough. Wait until he's back in a team that is hunted. He'll be copping twice as much every single week. His body just isn't up to taking that sort of punishment.
Yeah, maybe I am underselling what he'd provide them... for half a season. He's not someone they could count on anymore.
What I see when I see GAJ back at Geelong is someone who is eased through the home and away season. Come finals he's hit really hard early and the news stories for the next week are all about the Ablett tragedy and how cost Geelong the game/premiership.
HAnd he hasn't taken footy seriously for at least two years. Watch his durability improve if he goes back to Geelong again.
Will cost them that amount to get his shoulder right first, just runs around gathering meaningless possessions most of the time now.cats can pay him 500k for 8 games
Bit hard to prove much from that, as some opposition supporters might go to watch they believe to be an easy win. That's a bit telling, really; for all the rest of the AFL loves to talk up our demise as one of the big 4, we still put bums on seats.
True enough, but Richmond celebrate their attendance figures. Why can't we, when we're 4th in a year where we've come bottom 4?Bit hard to prove much from that, as some opposition supporters might go to watch they believe to be an easy win.
But if it's there, the club's job is to turn it into higher revenues, because the balance sheet isn't reflective of it.
Sunday twilight games in the middle of winter are just awful for attendees and viewers alike IMO.True enough, but Richmond celebrate their attendance figures. Why can't we, when we're 4th in a year where we've come bottom 4?
If anything, it makes for a decent reason to approach the AFL and get more Marquee timeslots. Sick of us playing Sunday nights, on Foxtel.

I'd really like the Suns to hold Ablett to his contract and if he doesn't like it. Retire.
