Oliver over Treloar and Adams, your kidding me right or you have your head firmly up ur arse....

Oliver, Treloar and Adams all do not feature in the top 100 DE players in the comp.

Oliver had a DE % of 77 , Adams 71% and Treloar 70%. Now there is a good reason Oliver sits at 77%, thats because he averages only 8 kicks a game with 21 handballs.
Adams 15 kicks with 15 HB and Treloar 13 kicks and 17 HB per game.
Oliver is so inefficient he gains lees than 200 m per game, Adams and Treloar can actually run and carry to create the play, hence why both avg. around 400m gained per game, double that of Oliver.
So you have a player in Oliver with 70%of his disposals are made up of handballs, and he still only has a DE% of 77. Shows that when he rarely decides to kick the ball he shanks it....Treloarand Adams easily over Oliver for AA....
DE% is rubbish when trying to assess for the "Top 100 players" given that the best DE% players are all backmen who chip sideways....

How did Jetta get a gig?
Jetta was always going to get in imo. Had a cracking season.

Gartlett on the other hand was a suprise, had a quiet last 6 weeks. Should have been replaced with Fantasia.

But to be fair this AA team has about 6-8 wrong calls. Which is a lot worse than the usual 2-3 it has

Ok so what catergory do you judge to say that Oliver is better than Adams or Treloar?
Given Oliver had more disposals, more clearances, more contested possessions and finished 6th in the AFLCA votes as of Rd21 (Treloar and Adams not in the top10) I'd say there's a significant argument. And that's not getting into the eye test.

Not really sure how Dylan Shiel makes it... reputation? Every GWS game I watch it I expect him to come bursting out of each and every stoppage but it seems like he's always missing in action instead.

Not even gonna touch the Scully selection, lmao.

Shiel is very much a defensive midfielder who's first thought is to negate the opposition's best midfielder, yet also manages to get 27 touches per game. Not defending the selection as he's borderline on the 40 for mine, but he's probably not going to have the impact you are looking for given that's not his role. Coniglio and Shiel are very similar in that regard, and their defensive mindset allows Kelly, Scully, Hopper, Whitfield and previously Treloar to be attacking weapons who often get the plaudits from fans.
How did Jetta get a gig?
Ever watched him play? Defensively, he's the best small defender in the AFL?

It's really surprising how many wrong players are in this years squad, is it a delibrate ploy to generate discussion?

For example say Grundy made the squad then missed the final 22 for Hurley/Rance, that's not going to generate any real discussion
But leave him out completely and put Lever in the squad and you can still leave him out of final team but you generate more interest (even if its calling the selectors morons).

Well done to Big Ben Brown on what is hopefully the first of many nominations for the AA squad.

In what has been a pretty dismal year for North supporters, he has been the standout.

Stats are overated, and lm sure other players selected in AA squad are not top 10 in the AFLCA voting.
If we refer to stats, Adams and Treloar feature in either the Top 10 or 15 in a few of them.
One stat that Oliver dosent even feature in the top 100 players, is metres gained per game. Which makes me think Adams and Treloar are more dynamic and effective players than Oliver.

Not everyone can be a pretty footballer - Oliver was robbed and supporters have the right to be annoyed. Not only should he be in the squad, personally I had him in the team.

Treloar had another really good season which oppo fans don't like to acknowledge, but he hasn't been AA good. There are a few mids who missed out who have been better

B: Jeremy Howe (Collingwood) ~ Alex Rance (Richmond) ~ Michael Hibberd (Melbourne)
HB: Sam Docherty (Carlton) ~ Michael Hurley (Essendon) ~ Rory Laird (Adelaide)
C: Zach Merrett (Essendon) ~ Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn) ~ Josh Kelly (GWS Giants)
HF: Robbie Gray (Port Adelaide) ~ Lance Franklin (Sydney Swans) ~ Dayne Zorko (Brisbane Lions)
F: Eddie Betts (Adelaide) ~ Josh J. Kennedy (West Coast) ~ Joe Daniher (Essendon)
R: Patrick Ryder (Port Adelaide) ~ Patrick Dangerfield (Geelong) ~ Dustin Martin (Richmond)
I: Matthew Kruezer (Carlton) ~ Josh P. Kennedy (Sydney Swans) ~ Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs) ~ Matt Crouch (Adelaide)

That's my predicttion, I'm happy with all selections but Eddie Betts who I feel has not had a great year but will probably get a gig.

Locks: Rance, Hurley, Docherty, Mitchell, Kelly, Franklin, Kennedy, Dangerfield, Martin
Likely: Laird, Merrett, Gray, Zorko, Daniher, Ryder
In the hunt: Howe, Hibberd, Betts, Kruezer, JPK, Bontempelli, Crouch, Jacobs, Sloane, Shiel, Roberton, McGovern, Yeo
Unlikely: Lynch, Walker, Selwood, Greene, Jetta, Brown, Ross
No chance: Lever, Treloar, Scully, Garlett, Jonas

And throw in a much undeserving player from a well supported team (Treloar) to stir up some controversy as well

Selwood was a less deserving player than Treloar surely, he's missed a handful of games and has had some very underwhelming ones.

Can we confirm now that the AA selections/squad are ladder bias?

Always have been. The breakdown is roughly 50% 1st-4th, 25% 5th-8th and 25% the rest.

Always have been. Over 50% of the final teams have come from top four sides.

Thanks again RTB.

Who were the two 18th place reps? I have a feeling Ablett is one of them.

Edit - how many when it was a 16/17 team competition?
