Hardest you've cheered in a match your team wasn't playing in*

GWS v Dogs last year. Right up until the last few seconds I thought the Dogs would screw it up as they had been mostly a bunch of battlers and losers throughout my lifetime. Was genuinely stunned and was so wrapped when they finally did it.

On a side note when Aguero scored that late late late injury time goal for Man City to give them the EPL title 5-6 years ago was something else. I was running around the house like a complete lunatic.

Brisbane 2001 was fun

LOL that was the only GF I haven't drunk at since like 1996

I was working at the Royal Show that year

Hawthorn in 08 GF. Watched it with a throng of Geelong supporting relo's who had been saying it was in the bag before the the bounce had even started.

The looks on their faces when the siren went is easily one of the greatest sights I have ever witnessed.

Hmm, actually that would be cheering hard for Collingwood in the drawn 2010 Grand Final .. I hated Stevie Baker so much for his thuggery on field and what he did to Stevie J that time ... that I could not bring myself to cheer for a team he was playing in. When the ball dodged Milne I roared with the Collingwood supporters. On that day there were only Collingwood supporters and me at the ground barracking for Collingwood lol. I didnt attend the replay but I was smiling after the result.

You can be the best bloke in the world but if you are carrying a turd in your back pocket you have to expect some people to pull away.

Anytime a team is close to getting pumped by a hundred points I can guarantee my neighbours will know about it.

I love cheering on a massacre, it's fantastic.
That would have made life a little awkward for you as a Melbourne supporter from 2007 to 2015. One particular day at Kardinia comes to mind.

Fitzroy was probably the only team i genuinely got behind with anything close to my passion for the doggies, pretty much every game they played in those fateful years. After the euphoria of having dodged a bullet, the reality that it had tore the hearts out of someone else really hit home.

Geelong were good that night and Varcoe gets unfairly lambasted a bit...not as though it was a goal square miss - under pressure, late in the game, 40+ out.

Also think Mitchell deserves more credit for our win. Don't get me wrong, Burgoyne was instrumental in the last, with 4 important touches and a key late goal but Mitchell was easily best on ground.

Geelong had dominated the middle in the streak of 11 up to that game and Mitchell got a dedicated tag (albeit from Taylor Hunt) and had 38 disposals, 11 clearances and set up everything. For perspective, our next best midfielder was probably Isaac Smith who had 18 touches and was pretty quiet. It was Mitchell vs Geelong for 3 quarters and he was still pretty important in the last with 7 possessions. One of the best individual final's performances I can remember

It was a stunning comeback- hawks absolutely dominated the last quarter, with Geelong barely containing them. I have to accept your assessment of the importance of Mitchell, as I haven't had the heart to re- watch. In my mind burgoyne also set up a couple of goals, but can't be certain. In that era Mitchell was heavily involved in all that hawthorn did.

Hawthorn's opponents in their recent grand finals. The Dogs on their finals run last year. But an under the radar one would be me temporarily adopting the West Coast Eagles late last year, when they kept knocking off our rivals for top four/top two positions.

That would be Geelong next week, followed by sydney the following week. Richmond out in straight sets will almost be as good as knocking them out in the 2015 elimination final.

1st September 1996

The day after the famous merger game when Hawthorn defeated Melbourne by one point.

Hawks sat in 8th place but Richmond had yet to play. They faced the rampaging Kangaroos.

I cheered every North goal as they went on to win by 32 points and assure the Hawthorn of a finals berth and relegate Richmond to 9th.

2001 grand final, we would have lost against the Lions anyway but we were screwed in the PF.

Generally don't cheer for rival opponents in big games, if it ain't Hawthorn I don't care that much. Actually went for Geelong in 07 because I hated the Port team of that era.

I also wish Varcoe had left the ball for Mitch Duncan to mark, who was standing in the forward fifty by himself!

ED: Burgers was pretty amazing that night... One of about three times I can recall Enright making a mistake
I think you'll find that Enright didn't actually play in that game.

yeah? Which game am I thinking of? was def against hawks, made an error in the goal square, also kicked one out on the full. The only errors I recall him making

Just checked and you're right..

Every game this year involving Port (we have their first draft pick) unfortunately it hasn't worked out too well for us this year. Was extremely pissed off with the 2 goals in the last 90 seconds v the Saints a few weeks ago.

I will be well and truly on the West Coast Eagles bandwagon at Adelaide Oval in the elimination final, would net us pick 12 with an Eagles win.

GO YOU EAGLES!

Pretty sure it was Bartel who made the error in the goal square. Watched that last quarter many times.
Bartel often moved himself to the goal square late in games to cut off goals, but this time it didn't work out for him.

Fixed.
