So if Lever turns the ball over in the final minute of the GF which results in us losing, will he have the balls to announce he is leaving the week after?

Whatever his personal contract baggage, a man conversation needs to be had and Lever needs to get back to that arrogant, side-stepping, finger pointing, intercept marking, brave decision making defender that got him in the AA squad rather than the fumbling, double guessing imposter of the past month.

Jake, you may not give a crap about this club or the playing group, but you better effing perform in finals or you will forever feel the wrath of the AFC supporter base.

Who knows, maybe he's told the players that a Vic club are offering 6 x 900k and we are only offering 4 x 600k. I'm sure they'd understand.
If you're a senior player who took unders to keep the core group together I think you'd still be disappointed with him, especially since he's talked about wanting to be a one club player and a future leader at Adelaide previously.

If we get to play the Tigers this finals series I wonder who Lever will match up on...I can see Townsend kicking a bag on him!

Personally, I think Townsend is a one/two hit wonder. He's sneaked under the radar, but that won't happen in a final.
Pretty easy to kick a bag when there's no focus on you and the opposition are too busy double teaming Riewoldt.

when are the AFL going to adopt the NRL model for player movements. it would be great if it could be announced mid season. atleast everyone know then

I think you will find that playing group is not very please with Jake and how things have been handled. Leadership group in particular is far from pleased. A lot of these guys who have earned their right to a big contract have taken significantly less in order to keep the group together and they you get a kid in his 3rd year asking for the world and making it a distraction.

Apparently when Pyke announced during the team meeting that McGovern has signed on for another 3 years, the players erupted in joy and Jakey boy was very uncomfortable.

I hope they don't. There has been a number of cases where deals have blown up or players have copped a heap of abuse from their current club's supporters after it came out they were leaving at the end of the year.

Sure but at that point he didnt have those offers then. He's also had a knee injury and who knows what's around the corner. No doubt they'd be disappointed though.

Fair enough, I have no insight, thought it's a possibility that the group know and understand the situation.

His performance in the QF will be fascinating. If he has a bad game it's time to swing the axe.

Losing a guy because he wants more money is not a knock on our culture or a real sign we are doing something wrong.

Especially if he goes to a club like Melbourne who have not played Finals in about a decade.

Even the great Paul Roos could not get them into Finals. And last weekend we saw the Dees players were not hungry enough for success to beat Collingwood to make it. The Dees were insiped in that game. That is their culture.

I was once bemoaning about being a Crows supporter and their horrible run of luck when a former colleague from work who barracked for the Demons said, "you should try being a Melbourne supporter".

It was the first time that I heard about the "Norm Smith Curse". but looking back history definitely suggests that the Melbourne have massively underachieved since they sacked Norm Smith back in 1965

Since 1964 (53 years ago)

Melbourne has made the finals only 12 times (missed the finals 41 times)

Have only made 3 prelims in 53 years

Has only made two grand finals and was thrashed in both, 1988 by 96 points and 2000 by 60 points

Had heaps of stupid things happen to them ie Jim Stynes famously costing Melbourne a grand final in 1987 because he ran over the mark after the siren. They find a once in a generation forward like David Schwarz who goes on to suffer 3 acl injuries effectively killing his career. I am sure there is heaps more that Melbourne supporters can name.

Trust me the "Crows curse" pales in comparison to the "Norm Smith Curse"

To be fair his form for the last 3-4 weeks has been average and that correlated with when the leadership group had a man conversation to him and telling him a few home truths. They didn't like the constant talk about his contract and his comments in the media about it. They want him to be team first and not feed the lions so to speak. The man conversation happened when the reports came out that he met with Melbourne FC and he lied about not meeting with them which created more speculation.

Ever since then, he has been very average on field and if we are picking team on form, then I am not sure that Lever would keep him spot. On the other hand, if he gets dropped for the finals, just imagine the shit storm that it would create in the media (i.e. he must have told them that he is leaving so they are dropping him as he is no longer part of their future.....AFC are being immature about this etc....) It would just create more distraction for the team at the time when it's least needed.

During the captains speach on the podium right after the game

He should announce it and then call Thomo to the podium and do the right thing by giving his medal to him.

He goes into the PSD with a million dollar one year contract as his demand. You get him, spend a million bucks on a player that never plays for you, and trade him the following year for MAYBE a late first.

Brisbane and Gold Coast are broke. If you think the AFL would let them do that (and all their staff are AFL men), then you're nuts.

Yes, I think the PSD is a pretty empty threat. What is the threat? "Pay up or we send him to the PSD and another club will get him for nothing".

OK - so he goes to the PSD with a (say) price of $800K x 5 years on his head.
Brisbane & Gold Coast - if they even bother to keep a pick for the PSD - will one of them take him? Will they stump up $800K x 5 years for a third tall defender who doesn't want to be there? What - with the idea that they can on-trade him for a profit 1-2 years later? Assuming that a Vic club (of Lever's choice) will still be willing to pay up at that time?

I don't think so. I think threatening "Brisbane or Gold Coast in the PSD" is an empty threat. OK, then you've got North and Carlton, so maybe one of them would be silly enough. Then Freo, then Collingwood - and now we're getting to the point where one of the contenders for his signature could pick him up for free.

The only way he goes to the PSD, IMO, is if Melbourne/Collingwood or whoever make a ridiculously low/stupid trade offer. Which won't happen. They'll offer something decent. It may not be enough to satisfy Crows supporters, but it'll be enough to make the PSD a non-starter.

You've probably mentioned it elsewhere but who's the club?

Pies? Don't think Lever really a great need for them, unless they think he might become a decent KPD one day.

Demons?

Hawks, Saints, North (let's hope they get desperate now!)?

Talk on SEN ( believe what you will I'm just mentioning it). Essendon is making a play for Kelly if that falls through Lever will end up there. If Kelly signs with Essendon Lever will end up at Melb.
Who knows ???

Simple.

If it's best for the team because of his poor form then he gets dropped (highly unlikely they would pull the trigger though).

Media explanation is simply that...he was dropped on performance.

If he has a good QF of course he should get picked for the next game.
