OK, Frank, let's say for the past two years you have been Stringer's agent. And you are now.

Q1. How would you have handled things in the last 2 years?

Q2. How would you handle things now?

Sorry DR, these are so hard to answer. How much did connors know and when??!? Agents don't usually hide these things from a players club. They try and work hand in hand to work through it together.

His absolute priority is to put Jake in the best position possible to earn his next mega contract.

So he could have tried to engage the dogs on an early extension discussion. But we've seen with dusty, lever, Kelly etc what waiting can do to a players value. Plus the new CBA was to be done. So that was probably not an option.

From here, connors needs to decide for himself whether he thinks Jake can turn things around. If he thinks he can, I'd be signing the shortest deal possible with his new club, and getting him back on the market when he's in top form.

If connors thinks Jake is a lost cause (and many many in the industry think he is), then squeeze essendon for a 5 year, $3m deal and lock that in as quickly as you can.

Thanks for that insight. I wonder why Essendon think they can turn it around when everyone else thinks his a lost cause.

And I'd rather pick 9 & 11 over 4 and Goldstein in his draft.

The thing is, there's not a big advantage having pick 4 this year compared some other years. It's not like the 2013 draft for example where there was a decent size gap in talent. And don't take that from me, Kevin "Shifter" Sheahan said that. He basically said the first dozen in this year's draft are very even and all capable of becoming elite AFL players. Then it drops off after that in his opinion. So pick 9 might be just as good as 4. I wouldn't put it past Dalrymple to nail it.

And on Goldstein, I really don't get the appeal. A few weeks back you said you nearly vomited in your mouth when you heard the news. Why the change of heart? He's 30 next year and his form has been poor ever since he started having personal issues (and his personal issues sound a lot worse than Stringer). He just seems a very expensive and a very unnecessary risk. I'd rather front load contracts this year and then make a big play for Lynch (or Gawn) next year.

People are misunderstanding me. This is all hypothetical given he won’t be going to North. I don’t want Goldstein. BUT I would take him for 2 years at $350-400 if it got us from pick 9 to pick 4 in a draft that has 5-6 standouts (in the club’s opinion - I have no idea) then it falls away.

I don't see how schache makes sense for us at all.

Maybe for 2018 to play Boyd in the ruck, but as soon as English is ready, where the hell does Boyd play? Him and schache in the forward line sounds awful.

Absolutely , for me it tells me the Drink thinks Boyd's days are numbered.

I'm with you and Panna. Regardless of whether he was homesick or not, the kid couldn't get into Brisbane's best 22 and when he was playing this year looked out of his depth.

Rather get games into English and rotate Boyd and Roughy through the Ruck/FF.

Darcy knows the dogs want more than pick 11.... IF there is nothing better being offered, I suggest there will be a meeting with Bevo to see IF things can be repaired enough for a last chance.
Stringer isn't being offered the big bucks, so it's likely for him to play superstar level to get mega bucks.

Boyd should be at Full Forward. Maybe with someone blocking for him, he wont be flying with 2 or 3 of the opposition.

And lets face it, our delivery into the forward 50 was crap this year. Whether it is Boyd, Ablett or Dunstall, they would have all struggled with the way we moved the ball forward of the centre. That's why Picken and Wallis do okay down there...they're hard bodies that are prepared to put their head over every chaos ball thats rushed inside 50.

Schache is said to have a good tank, so he's not resigned to solely playing inside 50, he'll be able to play the role we envisioned for Cloke - charging up the wings, taking contested grabs. He's actually quite athletic. Just because he's a 200cm key forward doesn't mean he's immobile.

Personally think he could work very well with Boyd. As well as take some pressure off.

Not at the expense of some legitimate leg speed.

North have really hamstrung themselves with a contracted player on huge money (I heard $900K for next season) that they;ll likely shop around.

I like Schache. Look it'll be frustrating for a couple of years relying on him and Boyd being extremely inconsistent but if they both hit their full potential we'd be absolutely laughing. If both Schache and Boyd start marking to their potential (big if I know) defensive pressure will be the least of our concerns. Just surround them with quick smalls. I don't really know enough about him but if Dal rates him then I'm on board.

No way in my mind is Schache worth more than Stringer so if we can come away with Scache and something half decent for Strings I'll almost be okay with It (not happy by any means but it is what it is)

How would we feel about pick 9 for Schache and a later pick, Stringer and a later pick for pick 4.

Effectively Stringer for Schache and an upgrade from 9 to 4?

Recruit Schache into our fwd line and we would have more red flags than a Chinese political convention...

No Stringer is not for the Cats won't suit our style of play, think Bombers will be his choice...
Stringer will go where the most money and security lies - that's why he won't nominate the Cats. Game style is irrelevant to Stringer - he ignores our game plan.
