Asking BigFooty to be patient is like asking Tony Abbott to dance on your rainbow float at the Mardi Gras.

You’re right though.
Good post :)

Your example even less likely

Didn’t he have Callum Brown in the top 20 last year? Always take Twomey with a grain of salt. He likes to talk up any kid with a link to Collingwood in the hope that we’ll overpay or miss out on them.

Honestly hope Richards does a Wingard and says to any clubs that he’ll request a trade to Collingwood after his first contract is up.

He's a Collingwood supporter

Don't know why but just can't get excited about Schache....pick 6 is too much def need a pick in return.

Hopefully we can get a Pick or 2 Back as I agree at the Moment he is not worth Pick 6 on its's self

If we were going for Schache and giving up pick 6 we’d want 18 back at a minimum.

Yeah exactly but if we could pull something like this off then I'd go for it.....just depends how we rate Schache against the KPF's in this draft and in particular Brander.

There would be a strong chance to that someone who we rated would full to pick 18 anyhow and more likely a KPD so we fill 2 holes there.....although yes I know the jury is still out on Schache a little.

All the talk earlier in the season was that we were into Schache in a big way.

Whether or not that holds true now I do not know but part of me wants to believe Schache has played dead this season in order to orchestrate a smoother path out of Brisbane.

This.

I would be quite happy to get someone like Schache on the list, but would like to find a way of doing it without giving up pick 6.

Say if Fas does go, Id be happy to send on whatever we get in return with something extra thrown in (eg. Eagles 2nd and a Levi Greenwood) - just needs a bit of creative thinking.

Except that his contract extension makes that less likely that he wanted to smooth his path out...

I'd question the recruitment of anyone who signs a new contract but still has intentions to leave at the end of the year.

Hate to know his footy smarts

It would be interesting to know what that discussion looked like. Maybe it has some clauses that make leaving easier, or maybe there was a gentlemans agreement that the Lions would still let him leave but a signed contract just ensured they would get a fair return, or maybe they told him that he would play NEAFL all year if he didnt sign on.

Or - maybe he was convinced to stay but a few months later changed his mind. That could potentially be a concern.

Gaff and Schache and we are meant to have picks left in the draft? That's not happening.

Just throwing it out there:

Fas for Gaff straight swap. (Personally wouldnt want to do this - not big on how Gaff would work for us under Bucks gameplan - too one sided).

Scache for 2018 2nd and Greenwood +/- Smith or a 3rd or something else.
Now not sure Brissy would agree to this, and they will probably push for pick 6 (which I dont want to give up for Schache) - but there are potential ways to try to do this whilst keeping our 1st rounder.

Perhaps he was weighting up whether or not to stay and kept Brisbane in the loop, but was being affected by the media speculation.

Perhaps someone like their welfare manager (Craig Lambert?) decides to publicly announce a provisional* 2 year contract extension just to put an end to the speculation and allow him to try and develop as a player and grow to like the place.

That way he can decide if he actually wants to stay or leave without any (or much) media hounding.

If he (Schache) leaves it might not necessarily be as simple as a player signing a contract he never meant to fulfil.

* not sure if provisional contracts exist or misleading AFL/Brisbane GC stakeholders is actually allowed.

If we could get Shache and Pick 18 for pick 6 I can’t see anyone being too unhappy. The kid has talent, which is no guarantee, but then the same can be said for any of the draftees we’d be looking at for the same position. And pick 18 could them be used to Aquire another player through trade (Smith maybe if he chose us) or we could take it too the draft, and with the evenness of the draft still get a decent pick to fill a need (I.e. two needs filled instead of 1).

If the mail is true about Schache is true, this could also be why there has also been talk on Richmond cooling on him. You would have to think that 6 for Shache & 18 would be more valuable to the Lions than 15 or 16/17 flat, if they have any decent academy players they would almost certainly loose a pick in the teens to match a bid, but 6 might be high enough that they could get two top kids before the bids for their academy players start coming in.

Shache is a young player, and the Lions are a young team. The media hysteria couldn’t have been doing either any good. The second the extension was announced the media forgot about it until after the season was done, by which time we were getting into the silly season and Shache leaving isn’t the biggest story going around.

Lynch is the better player but Watts did for one recent season at least produce Lynch like numbers and that role as the lead up forward is where a side can best utilize his mobility and neat disposal.

I'm not advocating getting Watts but looking at possible reasoning why we might have been interested.
I think at the right price he is a good fit, has the smarts and skills that we lack going forward.

We'd have to give them something on top of that.

It could have been astute thinking by the Lions to give them more 'currency' come trade period.

Well he is part of a Reported Problem that our Salary Cap is almost Full and he is on around 400k
If the reports are true that we where are after lever and lynch this year, our ttp cannot be too bad. More likely we are putting 2 plus2 together and getting 3 as an out come.

I think you're seriously laying out some un even trades there. Gaff doesn't equal Fasolo. Not even close.

At the end of the day Brisbane are going to stand firm on Schache imo they aren't going to trade him for a second rounder and a fringe player. I don't think we could accommodate a trade that leaves us without pick 6, and to me that's just being too risky.
