No we finished just outside the top 8 with 25% of our squad injured and having very little to do with our season.

Due to the above injuries we found some beauties.

Picking up Impey Or Balic or whoever else we take from some sides seconds is not going to push us forward.

Unless we manage to pick up a walk up start we have enough Box Hill battlers to provide the depth required given we have a decent run with injury in the pre season.
Maybe you should watch our last game & see why we should get Impey instead of being quick to judge.

Ok I will drop it and go to sleep.

Just saying picking up more scrubbers to plug a few holes and fill in time at Box Hill is not what we need as we have enough of that group of players on our list at the minute.

Impey had his worst season yet probably and still played 20 games for Port in a top 8 team. He is not playing in the seconds.

You also can't just blame this season purely on injuries, lets not forget we had the bulk of our best 22 on the field for our first 5 or 6 games and we looked terrible.

I agree with most of your points but Impey could be a very good get, he does have line breaking speed and still really young. As for Miles, I hope we go nowhere near him, mostly because it tells us that AC and GW don't rate our inside mids like Lovell, Jor and Cousins etc.... That we are just plugging holes because of a weak up and coming midfield group and/or not been able to lure anyone good.
I believe we will be a lot more active next year.

I agree as well, if we could get Impey for bugger all then I would be ok with that. But trading in players that don't get games or struggle to make top 22 in other teams when the league is so even doesn't make sense, especially considering the experienced players we have to come back in. That said, we still need to trade out some older players to change the age profile of the list and try to get back into the draft.

Impey will be great for us.

Given we missed out on all the superstar mids we are now looking to load up on speed.

Currently we have smith, henderson and hartung as the quick outside runners. I think Impey is an instant improvement on hartung at the very least.

LP - where do you see him playing? Is he essentially a Pops replacement or will he play from hb?

Interestingly the confusion of where he will play might actually be an asset to Clarko who likes people to move around. The answer to will he play

Small forward
Half back
Wing

might be "all three".

Well, given puopolo hasn't left I would say that we are looking at impey as a wing/half forward.

Our backline is stacked, especially with Stratton and birchall coming back.

80% of Impeys best games previously have been in that half forward role pressuring & creating goals/kicking one or two role so perhaps that's where I think he plays his best football. Could be a replacement for someone on the way out perhaps and if that's the case Poppy is the logical conclusion.

Abasi Moderator says he's goooooorn.

Given the rumours of both Sydney teams being into him I am also in "assume land" with Pops going.

Either way I remember Hill being excellent working together with our small forwards as a wing player. Hilly liked a goal

And there was much talk about duryea going as well, but not sure if that discussion has dried up a bit.

I'm not sure what impey's goal prowess is but I think the forward pocket is where careers go to die. I would prefer him up the ground.

Breust and Cyril together again will be great for us.

Sticking with the same list, hoping everyone comes back a finds their form is fraught with danger.

If you're not moving forward, you're going backwards.

Clarkson knows the list needs changing, and he also knows that sitting back and waiting for things to happen is list management suicide. Be prepared for change.
Agree here.
This off season has a stench of 09,10 about it when Clarko took a sledgehammer to the list. In two off seasons we acquired almost half our premiership side of 13'.

He is proactive, ruthless and meticulous and as stated, isn't one to wait and see.

Also worth noting he's been graced with an extra months preparation as opposed to the traditional 7 days.

The silence is already deafening, it always is with us in trade week. Our heist will have been planned months in advance. We are the Navy Seals of trade week.

Expecting someone to be coming as with some unexpected departures.

It's hard to believe that we landed two elite midfielders in last year's trade period.

Two of them.

Do you know how many sides would kill for a player or either Mitchell or OMearas quality? And we got both of them in a single off season.

If we don't land anyone this year it'll be an anticlimax for sure, but we are on the right track and if Clarko is working on filling peripheral roles then the list is in good shape overall.

Interestingly - in that 09-13 period, and even before, fans were screaming for a key position defender and dominant ruckman and they were the last roles to be filled. Clarko and wrighty seem to approach list building in a different irdwe to Mark Thompson's "build from the backline" approach.

So even though during the season we were all about securing top flight inside mids it seems that the club itself been putting time into Whitfield, gaff, impey and the outside running game.

We don't really need to build from the backline given we are stacked to the eyeballs in that area - unless we are building for the long term.

Totally agree re JOM and Tom. And if JOM plays a lot of games like his round 23 game alongside Tom's stellar form from this year 2016 was a bloody awesome trade period

But surely it's not done. I think I would be disappointed if we didn't use this trade period intelligently with an eye to the future rather than a small chance of pinching a flag next year

On what basis is Impey and upgrade on Hartung I'm keen to know? I think Impey will be good, I think he has talent but he currently has no specific area or ability that is superior to Hartungs. I think they could be paired together and grow and compliment each other, but I just can't see where Impey is superior.

He's harder at the footballer/man at the very least. Not sure why he's been compared to our other outside runners in Smith Henderson and Hartung. Impey may be quick but he certainly isn't a gut runner/ outside player. It would be like saying Puopolo is a gut runner outside mid because he's quick.

Because I think hartung is primarily an athlete and it's damn hard to force footy nous into an athlete, whereas Impey has footy nous and a bit more hardness.

Definitely looks to have a more defensive side than Billy. Shares Pops/Cyril characteristics in that respect

Impey is definitely superior in acceleration, speed, aggression, physicality (tackling etc.) & evasiveness. Probably also a better mark, especially in the air. Not sure but I’d suggest he’s also better by hand & definitely has a more penetrating kick.

Billy has him for endurance & repeat efforts - not even a contest.

Not sure what Impey’s running patterns are like coming out of defence or his goal sense as a small forward.

Jarman Impey is a Shepparton boy.

Given all the country kids we’ve recruited during Clarko’s time, I think that’s a big factor.

I’d imagine that Yze would know a lot about him too.

It’s actually another poster who says he’s gone, but it makes sense.

Agreed on Hartung, but if he had no footy smarts how does he get 20+ touches a game? He is bloody frustrating with ball in hand though. Impey I'm definitely keen on, but I can't warm to the idea who him being superior when he gets 11 possessions a game, even taking into account his attack on the ball and man and defensive pressure.
