So Pies flag they will have the cap space to chase Lynch next year. How will we play it? We'd have to be formulating some sort of plan now, but Bont's contract will need to be extended, probably during the next 6-12 months, Boyd's p.a. is reducing, but can we afford all 3 on the list at the same time, with many others forced to accept potential unders. From where I sit, Bont has to be retained at virtually any cost.

Magpies football department boss Geoff Walsh says the Pies will have the salary-cap space to pursue Gold Coast captain Tom Lynch next year - should he opt to leave the struggling club.

"It's 12 months out and (Lynch) is still contracted, so it's a bit wishlist stuff, but suffice to say, he's a top-of-the-tree player," Walsh said on AFL Trade Radio.

"I think I speak for all clubs, in that if you do set yourself long-term goals – and list managers and recruiting staff do that all the time – you're working in two and three-year cycles to see just what the future does unfold.

"Encapsulated in that is the ability to massage and manage your cap, so that if you do get an opportunity to bring players in, you find yourself in a situation where you either create that room or that you've planned for that room to coincide with players coming in. So, I don't think that's an issue here."

(Maybe making an offer such as we did for Leigh Colbert when he left the Cats might swing it with Suns. At the time, we offered Romero, Ellis and a third player who slips my mind - I'm not even sure if we obtained their consent to be part of the trade either!)

Rubbish MD, there has been plenty of criticism directed at Beveridge and the other coaches over the past 12 months.

Waaaaaait a minute

I saw guys questioning Bevo get screamed down and were told "the man won us a flag how can you question him?"

Gia has copped plenty and rightly so he is the Lin Jong of coaching but not a lot has been said about the others in what has been a disgraceful year mate.

You can forget Lynch. Won't happen.

I've been very critical of Bevo this year Matt. But I still think we should back his judgement on the Stringer call. You've got to back your coach 100% until you don't...and when you don't he's gotta go. We can criticise him when that's warranted but back him at the same time. I hope that made sense.

There will always be some people that shout down criticism, but I'd say more people have criticised the coaches than not this season. The minority speaking out doesn't mean the entire board is against any negativity whatsoever.

Waiting by the phone are you? If we want some one with pace, we could consider Mullett from NM as a rookie pick?????
We have 20 HBFers on our list already.
I'd want someone with goal sense if we're looking at a mature rookie pick up.

Wh

Why can't they wait until 2018 to trade in 2018 picks then?

By then club and player should have more of an idea what they want as well

Maybe they will? I think getting Stringer out of the club if they feel he'll be disruptive for 12 months may be a key driver. They haven't pulled a trigger either way for 8 days so there is clearly no panic

I've seen conflicting reports on where Crozier will play
Forward or Back ??

Constructive criticism is healthy. Criticising the club for a trade which has yet to be done is stupid.

Hahaha now people actually think we can get Lynch

More chance of Lin Jong winning an AFL premiership than that. Which in case anyone is confused is less than zero.

I thought the problem were his lack of commitment to training rather than him being disruptive. What does 'disruptive' mean anyway- clearly he's only disruptive to some and isn't that the sort of things adults should be able to sort.

Which other disruptive s do we need to target ?

The throwing the baby out with bath tub approach doesn't wash with me- why does one player get blamed for our supposed culture problems (do they exist anyway beyond BS and rumour)?

Would like to see more effort made to sort this one out rather accept low ball trades- if Stringer doesn't want to play that's his problem imo- at least the other players can see that we tried to support him and everyone else

You can tell Jack Watts is a bit docile
He has to up and move to Adelaide for a couple of years
Nothin
Is he on the shrooms?
