Am I overlooking something, or do we now have 41 players on our Senior List? There are 33 listed on the website senior list, incl Archie , plus 2 trades plus 6 draftees?

Either Archie doesn't get elevated to the Senior list, or we maybe delist someone else and then pick them up on the rookie list along with Claye and Cian. Even if Cian and Eagles are Cat B, the rookie list is also getting a bit crowded already?

I believe Barrett is still officially a Rookie ..... but I'll stand corrected.
That would make 32 on Senior list on Website + Hodge & Cameron = 34 + 6 Draftees from last night = 40.

I get your confusion ..... i have been mulling over this for some time this morning trying to work it out.

Jake Barrett is still a rookie. Was upgraded to the senior list due to Bundy's long term injury, so appears on the senior list, but still a rookie.

And so...onto the really important post-draft task: nicknames.

Rayner: my early contribution is simply Toyota Camray. Or Camry for short. Earl Ragnor i.e. from Vikings.

Bailey: Bailey’s Irish Cream or, more simply, The Cream.

Starcevich: Nephew. Or Starch. Has to be something GoT surely.

Woolley: i’m thinking sheep, shearing. The Shearer.

Ballenden: he is a kiwi originally I recall. And he is tall. Mt Cook.

Payne: who is apparently Parker-Payne. And so becomes our new PP, priority pick, or simply, Priority.

Go at it.

Just wait for what ever nickname the players pick for them to filter out.

Today has that Boxing Day feel to it. On reflection we did end up targeting mid types with our first three picks. The future will obviously show where they end up. Rayner seems a really gregarious likeable kid and think that he fill in no probs with the number of young fellas up here. Will take time personally to grow attached (that’s what happens when so many just up and leave) but it’s funny when you seem them out the guernsey how the growing sense of attachment begins.

Zac Bailey is an interesting one, came from nowhere in the last year and has his faults but he is about to enter a professional environment and they will be ironed out. He really stood out for the Allies and was one of the better inside type mids and think that he will strive after a couple of years, still see him as a small defender.

Remember looking at Starcevich’s highlights awhile ago and seeing some horrible kicks and stopped. Another inside type who attacks the contest and the footy. Similar to Bailey in that there are some really good things to start with but will take a couple of years.

Wooller, who? Was thrown when we took him. Delisted three talls and knew that we were taking Ballenden so wasn’t sure why.

Ballenden and Payne we all knew about and look forward to their continued development. Those two and Wooller we just need to be patient with.

Look forward to how they track over the pre-season and next year. Eventhough we have a pick 1 with Rayner hope that the club is patient with him and when he meets the requirements of playing AFL that he gets a game then and not just because of where he was drafted. Overall with this draft intake I’m not as taken and this mainly is due to the overall crop being not as good as other years but this will hopefully grow.

I can not find it, but there was an interview with Fagan a week or two before the the draft, where he was asked about Rayner playing for the Lions, and I thought his response was telling, when he said that he (Rayner) would have to meet set targets and markers in training and have to earn playing time.

Wondering if he is a "pull my finger" type uncle?

Lol. No. his uncle was head coach of our women's team this year. Given their performance I assume he still is - can't find anything to say he's not.

Edit- was mentioned in the article of the post I was replying to.

He left school early, that's a bad decision in this day and age and I dare say quite a few clubs would have put pen through him then and there.

But your really right about the tigers, they can do no wrong this year. They got Higgins who was statistically (via champion data) the number 1 player in the pool, they got Bolta who was rated 6 by Knightmare and is an amazing athlete who has very high ceiling and finally they picked up the best ruckman in the draft too. Tigers have cleaned with their picks on face value.

Yeah the leaving school was interesting. Did he actually do anything? Surely it wouldn’t have played much if anything considering he has a top character

I assume we rate Wooller ahead of Hammer. I understand we might have thought Close and Freeman we near their peak but Hammer seemed to have more improvement left. Hammer looked good at NEAFL level but was hopeless in most of his senior games.

Hammer always looked like he lacked a bit of grit and determination...skillful enough......hope Wooley is a goer.

Has a lot more mongrel than Hammer. Could be one of those slightly left field selections that proves to be a very astute selection.

Only queensland zone... if we take C Beams and Hanley. Campbell Walker fits the small forward role if we take him for the zone selection. Sambono no chance, I'd say, no cat A spots.

That’s a shame there’s no spots left. Still a few handy types available. Stephan Giro is the one I’d be taking. Seems a waste having the first pick in the rookie draft with no spots open.
