Out of curiosity, which teams do posters here think will slide and/or climb next year (outside of Saints).

The obvious choices are WC to slide and Dee’s to finally put it together and climb high. Any other predictions?
I think Essendon and Port will be top 4.

How's Melbin soft campaigners we don't wanna go to camp it's hard.

campaigners fell embarrassingly short last year, if this is still their attitude they will go another 15 years without finals.

Celeb1: Yeah? Are you a celebrity then?
Duthie: Duh... yeah i'm famous for faking a pregnancy and saying a celebrity was the father and then revenge porning a heap of them, cos revenge pr0n is OK isn't it? Then i got it on with someone older than my dad, and took my pants off in the street. Some people said i was hot back then.

Hahahaha

Did you hear she was ******* a cop as well. He intended up getting busted by internal affairs

Doubtful it’s Kim Duthie. I’ve met her through a vaguely mutual circle of friends and she seems to have a pretty regular life these days, with a child no less. Nixon would appear more likely, but money will always talk so who knows?!

LOL i saw the picture with the police jacket. Didn't know about IA.
She's like a Kardashian gone bad without the charisma or the fame.
Still rather sad how much damage one person can do and to not be held accountable for it either

Sure she was accountable, how else could you organise the amount of hotel rooms and who was paying for them without learning such accounting skills?

Now that enough time has passed, I am over the spitting rage stage about Kim Duthie and now simply view the whole sorry episode as perhaps a lesson St Kilda needed to learn the hard way.

Thankfully, even though Roo & Joey have gone, Sam Gilbert is still there as a living example of the damage that could be done to a career just through pure negligence and naivety, and I hope he gives lectures to the younger boys every year about what happened and how he could have avoided it.

When he goes it will pass on into club folklore with the Milne & Montagna and countless other cases, same as the Carlisle case will when Snake retires. These valuable stories will need to be related in the 3rd person and I only hope that the future players understand the gravity of the situation.

My fear is that the next gen of Saints players won't truly understand the damage to players and club little scandals like this can bring, not to mention any third parties. A bit like how the younger generations today are so removed from the war years that they don't get the sense of how horrible war is and start actually agitating to start something cos they just think war is like Call Of Duty or a heroic film instead of lying in a filthy hospital bed in chronic pain remembering seeing your best mates head blown off.

Err sorry, took a dark turn there.

Well anyway, hopefully all Saints players are forever well informed about the Sam Gilbert Kim Duthie case.

This recent alleged case of sexual harassment at AFL club land has gone cold quickly.
Wonder why?
Was just wondering what the latest on that is. Been scouring Big Footy but no rumours even. Which ever club it is has successfully swept that under the carpet. Definitely can't be us!

Players & club to learn what exactly?

Nothing the players or the club did was wrong. Players can take whatever photos they want of themselves. Someone then stealing those photos & being glorified for it, not condemned or charges by police, was a ******* disgrace

If I saw the slag in the street, I’d give the piece of s**t an earfull. She ruined those player lives for nearly 2 years & wrecked the club’s reputation & cost it sponsorship deals for at least 5 years.

She’s an absolute dead s**t human & had the gall to just laugh about it. She’s ******* scum

And she could have been scum to her heart's content if our boys had left her alone initially. Yes, she lied about her age. Yes she was probably aggressively flirting with our players at wherever they met. But in the end Sam Gilbert trusted her, left himself vulnerable. I seriously doubt her computer hacking skills so you can surmise that he also left his computer files vulnerable.

None of those things are terrible things to do, but they had a terrible impact and it just goes to show, you just need to drop your guard a tiny bit and disaster can happen.

There's plenty to learn from it. Do I really need to specify?

Well said, I honestly believe she deserved jail time for what she did.

She's obviously mentally ill (most likely borderline personality disorder) but she should have been made an example of so that others like her would think twice about making things up and putting things in a public forum where lives can be/often are ruined. She's just a sick person and there are many out there like her: in the age of social media there will be a lot more of these sorts of cases cropping up as impulsive unstable people see a way to get maximum exposure for their delusional grievances and a quick and easy way to "get back" at their targets. Our laws have to keep up with the times and protect all of us from the likes of her.

The best prevention is caution from players though. The crimes that she committed - lying about her age, stealing computer files - were all enabled by Sam Gilbert due to misplaced trust. I am not saying he is guilty of anything himself, but I bet you he'd say he'd do things a lot differently if he had his time again, and I hope that's the message he conveys to younger players who might follow the same path.

So you’re saying Sam Gilbert should turn gay?

Girl likes guy, guy like girl. That’s how most straight relationships start. Pretty sure Sam pulled the pin once he realised she was a ******* loony. Didn’t stop her though, she just claimed she was pregnant & the rest is just a mess after that.

Yeah that's what I'm suggesting. I propose for all the players to become gay. Thanks for clarifying my thoughts exactly.

Unfortunately he realised that she was a loony far too late. I take it that you are suggesting that the players have nothing at all to learn from this episode, that it was just plain bad luck?

The problem is, people with her disorder are expert manipulators. Caution only takes you so far with the likes of her they can act normal for a long time then change. Life's complicated and, barring never meeting anyone new, we will all come across people like her that are unwell. The best thing to do is not enable the perpertrators and support the victims.

Unfortunately in our case, she was enabled by the sick footy media and social media and given the type of attention she should never have been given, while the real victims were forgotten about. The whole thing was exactly how you never handle the likes of her and in fact gave her everything she wanted and more. Surely one of the lowest points of journalism in our countries history but because it's related to our small club, no one batted an eyelid.

To a point I agree, but - and I'm sorry for the prejudice - I'd say be weary of fans for a start. I bet if you did a quick poll of the backgrounds of players wives and steady girlfriends, very few would be club groupies. I can understand the attraction of easy sex and the intoxicating nature of hero worship etc but you are dealing with very specific types of people and there is more at play than just Boy Meets Girl, like their knowledge and interest in the standing of an AFL player. Add to that the fairly recent Social Media Celebrity culture (that existed back then as well if to a smaller degree) and you have someone who is dangerous. If you wanted to be really paranoid, you might even suspect that other clubs could 'employ' someone to pose as a fan, win a players trust and tip their lives upside down. Easy to do, as we found out.

Of course, I'm not suggesting players refuse all contact with fans, but just Be Careful, in the same way that when you're having sex until you know each other really well you should use protection. I can't believe I have to spell this out.

Sam G met a girl at a club function, I'm guessing that he didn't bother checking ID for age or she had a fake ID, they had unprotected sex at least once, when she said she was pregnant he didn't bother getting proof, at some stage left her alone with his computer. It's unfortunate and maybe he didn't do anything wrong, maybe he just didn't think things through enough.

Totally just bad luck. You’ve obviously never hooked up with a loony before. Some you can pick easily, some you can’t.

I dated a loony. Sweetest loveliest girl I’d ever met. We went out a few months, became intimate, then starts talking moving in together, engagement, marriage, babies & future plans after dating for 9 weeks when we were both 21 yrs old. Ultimately we broke up straight away (my call) & I copped the pregnancy lies, the ‘im Gonna ruin you you campaigner’, ‘you’ve wrecked my life’, ‘I’m gonna be a single Mum, you can pay child support’.... All lies. Bitch needed a ******* Valium & Xanax

Honestly, you can’t pick a loony every time

You have obviously never met my wife. Seriously, but she's awesome anyway.

Anyway, I don't think there's much point in continuing to express my thoughts on this matter. Clearly we think differently about it. I really hope that Sam Gilbert doesn't just believe it was bad luck.

I actually agree with you on the being wary stuff.

One thing that really changed my thinking was when I was 18 I lived in a house with 2 listed players for another club (my dad was mate's with a family that hosted new draftees, gave them meals etc. so I got the same deal for a year). The thing is, most of these draftees are just naive kids, more naive than the average 18 year old. The world they get thrown into with drink-cards, nightclubs etc. is a shock for most of them. I'll never forget my housemates, as a joke at a nightclub we were at, introducing me as a new recruit to a few of the well known groupies there. My god, the grilling they gave me "what position do you play, what number are you, we haven't seen you etc." made you realise how calculating they were and how they really target a lot of these players in a systematic way knowing exactly what they want.

Yes, a lot of the players aren't angels but the groupies are certainly not innocent victims either. A lot of these young blokes just happen to be good at footy and their social skills are quite poor. The chances of them spotting a Duthie type early and keeping clear of her are pretty low. It's one thing preaching for them to be careful but we have to be realistic here. If the average person on the street can be manipulated by prince/princess charming on a regular basis, what chance do some footballers have? Like I said in an earlier post, in this day and age with social media like it is, we will need laws to protect us from a lot of the damage scorned and unstable exes and others can do to reputations on social media. The sooner they come in the better.
