The problem here also is that the false and coloured media reports have painted the afl into a corner

Not matter how much the evidence says spp did not do what he is accused of if the afl say the evidence acquits him lots of ‘concerned’ bystanders are going to scream that it is being swept under the rug.

The afl are going to have to do some Catherine zeta jones in entrapment type manoeuvring to appease some people.

I seriously hope this doesn't all get forgotten about in a couple of weeks. This "journo" needs to be exposed.

Just once I would like the club to sue for defamation ...( in this or other instances where the facts are incorrect)

A club legally can’t sue for defamation. SPP in his personal capacity potentially could though, but whether he’d have any success I don’t know. C7 are clearly horrendously biased, but you can’t sue someone for being biased.

Surely just refusing to do any interviews with ch7 Adelaide would be effective enough...

Whilst I’m all for a freeze out of 7, it just won’t happen.

They can pretty much do as they will. For starters, they are a principal partner of ours. Any action would likely lead to termination of sponsorship.

Secondly, we could kiss goodbye any national FTA games under the current TV rights deal.

What can the club legitimately do?

I for one wouldn't give a fat rats clacker if ch7 dropped their sponsorship of us. We certainly aren't getting any positive value from it. KT should tell them to stick it up their arse.

So the girl commented about it on Facebook and Elspeth saw it and went to town? This is getting a lot worse than i thought.

Most likely the girl went to the club, then went to the media (or one of her "friends" did for her), the media have spammed anyone tagged in photos at the club that night (hence the video/commentary from the two clowns in the car). Unless she's posted "LOL SPP totes touched my butt!!!" on the club Facebook page and someone's picked up on it, it's not like the media are going to track down an incriminating post from the wall of "random saturday night drunk chick #12856"

I dunno, they managed to find the Facebook post slagging Eddie Betts when the banana-gate thing erupted. I'm pretty sure that was just posted on her own or a friend's Facebook page, not the Club one.

Just saying it's not like the media have super-secret-squirrel access to everyone's Facebook that alerts them to shit, if it's come from a persons comment on a personal Facebook page then someone has shared/shown/sent it to the media.

Meanwhile in a Herald Sun article today.. One in five women state that have been inappropriately touched. Aren’t we just darn blessed that SPP, with a little help from Hussey, has become the poster boy for this.

This.

It seems that it wasn't the girl involved that approached the media, they contacted her, so it may have been a friend that sent it to the media. Some of the stuff that's come to light during this episode though convinces me that there isn't anything they won't stoop to just to get a story.

There was obviously more to this.. sounds like a group argument thats shot out of control..

My theory is that the club was contacted via. Facebook or they were tagged in a post and it was seen by Channel 7 who ran with it. Elspeth has her finger on the pulse of all things Port Adelaide so it's highly likely she keeps on eye on the official page.

Not discrediting the accusations at all but it's easy to see how a social media post could turn into headlines.

I don't think we should be boycotting 7 as a whole, it's a bad look. Despite the fact that we're already on the back foot, going to war with the media isn't ever a great idea. We need to publicly have a good relationship with 7 and we don't want to be seen to being against comprehensive investigative reporting of sexual violence.

What we should be doing is getting Koch to march into the office of a decision maker at Channel 7 (obviously windmilling his ****) and throw his weight around a bit regarding the nature this sort of muckraking. Maybe Elspeth can "promoted" to roving reporter in Oodnadatta.

If SPP can demonstrate he has suffered some form of damage (doesn't have to be financial), as a result of Channel 7's horribly biased and untrue reporting, then he can certainly file a civil suit against them.

I think this is where the AFLPA need to be involved.

Nah I dont think that would be a good look. It would be better if Sam went at this alone with his own legal advice. Getting others involved looks a lot like bullying. The AFLPA concern themselves with issues regarding the collective rather than the individual.

If Sam was going after the woman involved i'd agree, but it's reasonable that Sam has the assistance of his player association body when he's taking on a Television network.

Nah. **** them. They have demonstrated an inability to responsibly report on sexual assaults. Elspeth in particular shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the PAFC ever again. Blacklisted.

If there is a society or a board to which journalists are registered, there should be a formal complaint lodged about Elspeth's ethics and the ethics of Channel 7 news for that matter.

Koch should definitely do this.
