Just another day in lawless downtown Melbourne under the Victorian ALP Premier Daniel Andrews' soft **** approach to the out of control African Gang destruction and violence. There are reason why you're trailing 53 - 47 in the polls Mr. Andrews..this is one of the main reasons.

Victoria police ‘must change approach’ to out-of-control parties

Sounds like a party held by a rock group in the 70s.

If the suggested 'soft' surplus as stated, then it will take 30 surplus years to pay off the debt.
But we aren’t adding to it right?

As for a hard surplus, given the years of deficits, the first one was always going to be soft.

I would have thought this is positive step in the right direction.

I'll just add "If the world sneezes, Australia will catch a cold"

It all depends on how the rest of the world goes, if all goes well, Australia will benefit, if not Australia will not.

Unrest in certain parts of the world will always dictate how we go, along with a little participation with who ever is in power at the time.

So the government doesn’t create a climate where the economy is going well with low unemployment, inflation, favourable business conditions which assist with companies making profits?

Pretty biased view their Vader.
Are you saying the current govt has done these things?

Far out! Have you all not listened to a thing I've said.

I'll try again.

1. Countries don't have a budget, not like a State, or a company or a person has a budget. Like many things financial, what happens at the level of a country is not like what happens at the lower levels, a country's finances are not like a household's. States, companies and people cant print money for one example. That's why we have GDP as a measure, rather than the sum of profits and savings for another.
2. Spending is not constrained by tax take, these things do not have to balance like a budget.
3. Public debt matters very little.
4. Private debt matters massively.
5. A surplus is ok, if its from a trade surplus (which from my coal and iron ore comments I suspect it is a contributing factor, though I havent checked yet), if its not, then a surplus is a bad thing, this is because...
6. A public surplus is balanced by the private sector going into debt - which is not a good thing if its already heavily indebted which Australia's private sector is.

Deriving from all the above, one can conclude Peter Costello has no idea.

LOL, I'll take Peter Costello over some internet numpty's ramblings if that's OK with you Carmo

How can you be so sure I'm the numpty?

How's that interconnector, importing much lately? Why is the rest of the country installing renewables now, if there's such a poor business case?

Pls expand on how they've done them then... and especially demonstrate to me that its not external factors that have done it. Thanks.
Ok I’ll draw you a picture.

It’s amazing, the economy is going well “it’s outside forces, nothing to do with the government”

The economy is going shit “the government sucks”

Anyway, the High Court has rule Labor’s Gallagher ineligible and is kicked out.

How many more will now need to go?

Katy Gallagher gone. This should result in four other MPs exiting parliament - Labor's Susan Lamb, Justine Keay, and Josh Wilson, plus NXT's Rebekha Sharkie.

At least Gallagher's removal won't cause a by-election. She's a Senator, so her replacement will be decided via countback. She will almost certainly be replaced by the other Labor candidate, David Smith.

Expect Gallagher to stand for the newly created 3rd House of Representatives seat at the next election. She wasn't eligible at the time of the last election, she is now.

So much for Labor's vaunted system of checking the backgrounds of potential candidates. The implication is that potential candidates will have to lodge their renunciation documents long before an election is even called, possibly even years in advance.

Bizarrely, it's still possible that the others may manage to escape.

Gallagher's case apparently hinges on the fact that she originally provided the UK with a copy of her birth certificate. She then had to provide them with the original, and this happened after the election. This glitch was enough for her to fail the "all reasonable steps" test.

We still don't know if the others are eligible, or ineligible, if they lodged the correct paperwork before the close of nominations.

And you've got nearly as much egg on your face as Bill Shorten and Mark Dreyfus SC with your 'blind faith' backing of "Labor's vaunted system of checking the backgrounds of potential candidates".....your Labor Party mates let you down badly this time. I was tempted to go back and quote the many times you alluded to Labor's "superior" background checks of it's candidates".....turns out it is was a complete and utter sham.

Who crosses out the typed Malcolm for a hand-written Malcolm? You do that for Dear Prime Minister, or Dear Sir.

That's John Howard bowling off-spin cringe.

Without taking sides here, but has that not happened with an Anglo Saxon on drugs of any kind?

And your sending this to me because................................

Once again a clear reminder that Bill Shorten is Malcolm Turnbull's greatest electoral asset.
The difference is, as it always has been, that the ALP actually bothered to check - and sought legal opinions on the matter. It turns out that the HC judges disagreed with the lawyers the ALP consulted. It happens.
