It really didn’t look like Collingwood put any effort into stopping him either, and his impact was still pretty minimal.

Even if he improves enough to actually warrant attention, a whole new test awaits him.

Sorry to say he has no aggression not good in the contest and no chase or second efforts. Thought it was just not wanting to be at the lions but change the jumper same result.

I think it is one of the great considerations to take into account with drafting key position players - they have often had a natural head start through junior football and their teams pre-draft tend to be able to utilise those advantages quite well. If they don’t have the mongrel in them though, at the AFL level it can get really hard. There is no easy contest, complex patterns, constant pressure from big tough defenders and no time to rest because of the speed of the game and the requirement to play a defensive role that might be quite unfamiliar.

Even the ones who play a lot against men pre-draft have a lot of adjustment to make at the professional level. All those lovely natural advantages they had from as far back as under 12’s sometimes disappear quite quickly and all the skill and will in the world doesn’t overcome a lack of natural aggression.

If I compare Hipwood and Schache it seems quite easy to see that in practice. And Hipwood himself still has some work to do, especially defensively.

Schache could still be a handy player but honestly it will just get harder each year to build that instinctive aggression into his game.

Light and day between Hipwood and Schache IMO. Last night Schache just lumbered around the field. Hipwood is always running to the contest trying to have an impact.

Hipwood doesn't have the same footy IQ as Schache, but leaves him for dead in his desire to win. Scache lived on talent during his junior days where he was physically bigger than anyone else. Put him against blokes his own size and his mental weakness shows.

How exactly do you come to the conclusion that Schache has a higher footy IQ than Hipwood?

better 'feel' for the game than Hipwood, especially as a forward. What's your take on it?

Not sure how someone with a worst feel for the game is able to pull off things like this at 0:30.

You compare that to Schache whose highlights consist of getting pushed out of the contest way too easily, slow and lumbering and looks like he is always a couple of steps behind general play.

Again, I have no idea how you come to the conclusion that Schache has a "better feel" for the game.

Schache barely gets involved in the game. Rarely beats his opponent and rarely impacts contests.

If he has a footy IQ then he's deliberately playing poorly
Schache is a natural talent. I don't care if you don't see this but it is fairly obvious he was since he was taken pick 2 in his draft. There is a difference between talent and output. Plenty of talented people in the world that don't make it in their chosen fields for a variety of reasons. Drive, low confidence, lacking support networks, arrogance... Schache was just unlucky not to have all the pieces in play for him to succeed. Biggest hurdle is his lack of confidence and ability to be a winner. Look I understand this is a Lions board and god forbid you can't say [insert player from opposition team] is more talented than [insert Lions player] but sometimes it's nice to let the emotional attachment we have on this footy club slide a bit when we talk footy at times.

We saw schache play some amazing games in his first year though, he used to take contested marks for fun, lead up the ground and in the forward 50. He had great running patterns and was always presenting.

That fell away in 2017 and never really came back. What's happened?

total lack of confidence certainly doesn't help. Unfortunate for him so hopefully his move to the Dogs can help him overcome this. Long road to travel though.

Loved the kid while he was here and think he's got footy intelligence in spades even if sometimes it doesn't show. If he get's his head right he will become the player that had us all raving a couple of years ago, though sadly not with us, I feel like we've moved on enough as a team and a club to not feel any ill-will towards him.

Mate you said footy IQ.

The bolded ....Whaat? He had all the pieces given to him on a platter, the fact that he was not able to at Brisbane speaks volume about his footy IQ.

The Richmond St Kilda game is pretty weird. Richmond is casually shredding the Saints whenever they feel like it, but St Kilda would be in front of they were slightly less terrible. Richmond's down a couple players though.

It’s very obvious he dominated junior footy because he just sit inside attacking 50 with heaps of space and get on the end of the midfielders work but when it came to actually having to win the footy in the seniors he couldn’t get anywhere near it. Even just halving contests is difficult for him. He clearly doesn’t know how to play as a key forward in modern footy.

Riewoldt is the last player they want to lose especially after 5mins.

Carlisle in some trouble I reckon

Something going on at GWS other than the injuries? Poisonous culture? Saw a clip during the week of Jeremy Cameron acting really immature last weekend, he should be one of the leaders of that club. Makes you think. Very early days tonight though.

Shame we played them when we did; our style in recent weeks may have troubled them had we played them recently.
