This is an interesting read:

It sounds like there are a lot of differences between the NRL case and the AFL.

The key argument based on case law appears to be around, Is there a legitimate interest in need of protection?; Is the restrain reasonable in that circumstance?; Is the restraint against the public interest?

From the article:

"The AFL system allows drafting for a 2 year period, before allowing players to change clubs via trade, preseason or national drafts. In 2012 it enters a new phase where a limited form of free agency is permitted – and some would say it has been something of a success with 17 players traded during this period.

The AFL draft has never been challenged in all the years since the NSWRL case primarily since the players and player association all signed on. Its thought that when combined with the salary cap that the AFL could quite easily prove that it achieves its aims of a more even and competitive league."

I am surprised a player or the players union hasn’t taken it on.

Personally I am not a fan of the draft. Think we reward the best player in any draft with the shittiest club. Players should be able to ply their trade where they see fit. The NRL seems to survive without one and there still seems to be a reasonable turnover of premiers over time. For those that argue the non AFL state clubs would suffer Melbourne Storm disprove this theory.

He probably already knows he going to play for Carlton unless they trade it
Crows considering trading a big package including Betts Gibbs Jacobs ha ha. Seriously if the kid wants to stay home they would have to give up Jenkins, both Crouches and more

He’ll be back in two years after his drafting

Will be a dangerous fwd combo with Fogarty in a few years time

They will be offloading someone. Kerr looks ok. Curnow looks special. McKay is a long term prospect.

I like Kerr.
Kerr doesn’t like Collingwood. Comes from a Carlton family, and the hate is strong in him.

Feel badly for Lukosious but he is a Bblue, no question. They’ll tank if there isn’t any question he won’t be. Nothing surer. With Lukosious and Curnow up forward, they have 2 guns. Cripps in the guts also. They are going to build a team eventually,

They had 4 number 1 picks running around last year and were still total balls. They'll muff this up again. It's their destiny.

More Darth Maul than Darth Vader.

Therefore, Schara knows what to do in the re-match...

Factually incorrect, I’m a very close friend of the Kerr family and whilst there is a Collingwood v Carlton rivalry, there is a lot of respect as they are also close to Eddie.

I don’t think anyone can say the Treloar trade was a loss for us.

Griffin Logue and Jacob Hopper were taken with the 1st rd picks we gave up. I’d take Treloar over those two any day

What about Both instead of Treloar?

only 2 NRL clubs are run remotely like an AFL club. The others are like 1980 vfl clubs.

No draft in the AFL.would be great for a handful of clubs and a total disaster for the comp.

They'd all be that much better developed in a better environment. Curnow with an elite midfield around him would be frightening.

I would say we need a key position defender but I have faith McLarty can become that.

Lynch is all we need, I would take Sloane if we got him as a free agent and Crows didn't match.

Lynch with a fit Moore, WHE, Stephenson and Elliot is a dangerous forward line.

The amazing aspect of the draft as you say,

Take the year’s best prospect and the reward?

Welcome to Carlton and emotional nourishment.

:poo:

Treloar for me easy decision.

I’m very strong of the view, if you have say two top ten picks at least he should be nailed as a high value player and gain 200 games or ten years as a guide.

The other pick is the icing on the cake, bail that too, wow perfect.

But life, alas, said pick has injury issues or just doesn’t adapt to the tempo etc.

Get one terrific player in two and that’s par.

Tom Lynch thread on the Tigers board is at 120 pages.

Why are they so bitter with us re Treloar when they are the reigning Premiers and likely to go back to back??

On a side note I was speaking to a couple die hard Essendon supporters that "had" to leave the game early because of the Tigers supporters behaviour.
Both of them have never left a game ever in the past. Weird lot these Tiggies.

I read that thread in the morning. They sure have got cocky all of a sudden. They think they are guaranteed of getting Lynch.

That would become the most potent forward combination in the comp.

Good luck to them mate.

I sort of get their arrogance after 37 years of irrelevance......but wow they are really talking like they are about to win four Premierships in a row.

I remember Bulldogs supporters being like that after they won. Geez that fall has been rapid.

See I get the Bulldogs supporters because they reminded me of us in 1990 and I can sympathize with their hangover.....but the Tigers are another breed to me.
