Judging from last nights game McCartin could well be a player for them. Took some good leading marks and Astbury himself said in a couple of years the kid is going to be a handful.

They all had each other, Richo, Newman and Sugar Kane to help too. Plus Benny Gale and Dimma built a strong off field culture and a tiger army that always (mostly) has your back.

Tom has Steven May and thats it this year. GC is an absolute basket case, Cochrane while probably good at certain aspects of his job (He isn't an AFL club CEO for nothing) is terrible representation for the club in the media with his aggressive and chaotic delivery style. Compare that to calm that Benny Gale and Dimma have exuded from day dot. Dew is probably a good coach but yet to really get a feel for him and he doesn't have a lot to work with. And finally it must be deflating to run out in front of an apathetic supporter base.

I know this wasn't what you were saying but i got a bit of run on and became more of a general post as much as replying to you.

I was taking the piss a bit there. They had Ablett and co when they first arrived with a list of potentially talented young kids which didn't develop for what reason who knows.
With all those picks they were in a better position to launch in three years time,but it never happened:

Never forget we were led to believe on here that we were the worst performed side since Fitzroy and when Karmichael slotted that goal it was almost believable. I can laugh about it now.

Sydney definitely need at least one key defender waiting in the wings, Rampe and Grundy aren’t getting any younger and I think Aliir Aliir while good is never going to be the caliber of those two and I’m not sure you’d want Aliir Aliir as your number 1 defender anyway, when he was on Jack he got slaughtered!

I don't claim to have inside info on the Hawks but a mate of mine usually bang on about the Hawks.

Cyril has flown back to Melbourne (which has been reported by the media) and I've been told its to inform the playing group of his decision and he is headed back up North due to retirement.

Sad way to go out - genuine gun.

Only reason why I am mentioning this is it is indirectly linked to Tom Lynch. They have plenty of cap space but apparently are targeting the McGovern brothers and Sloane. They are loading up.

Did I watch tonight's game? I was at it, mate! We saw an exhibition from one of the great key forwards. Imagine him with another very good one as support!

I am very positive about Balta and CJ in particular, but they are years off being consistent senior AFL players, let alone stars. Lynch is a star.

Gold Coast won't match, take it to the bank.

Why do you believe that CJ & Balta are years off ? They dont need to be stars just yet they only need to perform a role in our team just like McCartin is doing at Sydney swans.

Yes Lynch is a start but im yet to see that star this year and now that he is out we wont

In My Opinion we need role players that can play the Richmond way, Not 100% Convinced Tom Lynch has that in him but will support him if he comes
But very very worried about what he is going to cost as far as $$$ & Draft picks

Really dont believe we need Lynch to be honest, Im really liking the way our KPF are developing in the reserves playing the Richmond style football

Coleman-Jones plays foward and regularly kicks goals and is a fantastic mark and when he has played ruck has been very very impressive for a 1st year kid
Noah Balta , The signs are he is going to be very special player and an aerobic physical beast that can play just about any position
Moore , Has shown very good signs in the seniors and also plays to a high level regularly in the 2's and is coming along nicely
Chol has taken a big step foward this year until getting injured and was on the cusp of a senior game

All the above player will be that much more advanced in 12 months time with another preseason and learning

I really dont believe we are 'Desperate' For Lynch and would be better served investing in the midfield

As much as i'd love for us to get him i do share your point of of view but from a different point of view. for mine it's the need to keep the younger blokes who are the future of the Club & we need to ensure we have the space to do it. if we can fit Lynch into that then i am all for it but not if we have to trade.

I agree we are well oiled but Lynch offers us another absolute class forward who can take a contested grab and bring the ball to ground for our mosquito fleet.

We bomb to 20m out a lot and if Jack isn't around Castagna/Caddy/Dusty/Townsend all compete and do a great job but we do lose those contests enough that its frustrating. Lynch becomes that option, he will mark it more often than the others and is less likely to lose the contest, it'll also put Castagna, Caddy and Dusty at his feet instead of in the air where they are all so dangerous, better still if their opponent is dumb they'll go up to contest leaving those boys unmanned at his feet.

Also imagine Jack without the pressure of a 2nd defender constantly, he came into the game a smart footballer and he is getting smarter and smarter, imagine what he'll do when he has more space and time, he doesn't rely on athleticism so he could just get better and better and play more games like last night.

Finally he provides an outlet pass/dump kick option. Hemming teams into your forward half is a vital aspect of the modern game and breaking thru that forward press is hard for every team (we are currently the best), contested marking is the easiest way to exit a defensive 50 and Lynch is one of the best in the game.

I agree his value is not over 1 mil after this years performance but we also can't rule out the circumstances, plenty of the best players around the world check out when the situation is a dysfunctional as GC, especially in a position like CHF, which is still the hardest position in our sport.

Dont forget it then means 2 targets out of back 50 instead of just 1 KPF, as well as as his fwdline work.

Alot of talk on how we dont need him because our game plan is working great. True. But, if the rules change, which looks likely, he may become a key to a 3rd premiership in 2019. With a rule change making a big clunking forward essential, we need Lynch.

If these Rule changes do come in i see it like these rule changes would automatically reduce the time needed to develop our young KPF
Chol , Moore , Balta , Miller CJ (not so much) are all athletic beast and have excellent burst speed and athleticism and would just make them playing seniors advance alot quicker.

I 100% Agree with all you mentioned and you are preaching to the converted, Our concern is the Cost of Lynch - What will he cost us ??

If we need to trade for him and it is looking very likely we will then we effectively could find ourself in the same position where the Hawks were with the JOM trade where the GOLD COAST ARE DEMANDING 2 X TOP 10 PICKS as well as having to Pay Lynch $1 mil plus

Would you want to give up so much of the future and even the established players it may cost ?
If it was just a free agency where GC dont match and we get him for 900k-1 mil then sure no issue

In fairness to Cochrane he has to be aggressive and chaotic to try and get any media exposure for his club. Being calm won't get that.

Another thing to consider is Tom Lynch's standing within the club, if Tiger71 is correct, they have an agreement in place where they will not make this difficult for him by matching any offer - he has given them all he could and there is no bad blood as they understand that they have failed him... Among others. This isn't only a T71 school of thought and does make a lot of sense IMO. Jaeger O'Meara is a completely different scenario as the Suns felt he jumped ship too soon after they stood by him through his injuries.

We also left a good impression with the Suns compared to the Hawks when we made the Prestia deal and didn't push them all the way to the deadline like they did wth JOM. This is where Richmond's professionalism could also pay dividends as there is no bad blood with them.

FWIW I know JOM wasn't a free agent, I just used that as an example as that was when the GCS played "hard ball"
