I am talking about a PP not compo picks. GC could get a PP if they ask for one and it is up to the AFL to decide what pick it it. Could be before the first round or at the end of it.
Any compo picks for Lynch is different. They would get a pick straight after their first pick, so around 4.
Hypothetically the Suns could get pick 4 for Lynch and a PP from the AFL because they are struggling. It could be well be pick 1, before the first round , but more likely at the end of the first round.

I don’t they ni they will get both but I can see the AFL giving pick 1 as the compo, I know that’s not what usually happens but this is the AFL and the GC

nope. dont let the article suck you in. Silvagni was never quoted to say "including passing on our top pick for a contracted star such as Shiel". They've added that part themselves.

Yeah, he went on a media blitz a week or so ago. He said the club was open to improving the list with a focus on free agents (which was always the plan after the 3 years of hitting the draft),

He did bemoan the difficulty of getting in free agents to bottom clubs.

He said nothing about trading pick 1 for Shiel.

What if we offered pick 1 for Kelly straight up? Then try to poach Shiel next year.

Pick 1 for Kelly fine. He's Cripps age (not a F/A for another 3 years).

But not Shiel. He's 2 years older, and a F/A next year. If he wants to come great, we can get him in 22 games time and also get Lukosious.

Can't just assume that's what he said then. SOS in no way indicated that we're targetting anyone he clearly said we're open to offers which is what you'd expect him to say.

Not making the assumption either. Mentioning the trading of pick 1 for Shiel, does not mean that will be the exact deal, I am sure SOS would want a hell of a lot more to part with it, whether GWS will come to the party is another matter

YOU AND I both know the interest in Shiel, from the club
YOU AND I both prefer that we don't use draft picks this year and get him as a FA

Perhaps SOS is starting to let generic information out to create greater interest from multiple clubs if we finish with pick 1. Letting the world know that we are open to trading an early pick for a deal that involves Shiel among other things.

Could you imagine both SA clubs, thinking that they could be in with a shot to recruit one of the best players in the draft. Create more demand for something you hold and the offers could be really surprising

Few places reporting that the Suns are preparing for Lynch to leave...

Brisbane look likely to leapfrog the Suns next week by beating us. That locks the Suns in at pick 2 and us in at pick 1 and the spoon.

Lynch leaves and they get picks 2 and 3 to go with WCE's 1st rounder, 2 x 2nds and 2 x 3rds.

Shiels I50 and goal assist numbers are very impressive.

Yeah. That and his metres gained (all three are elite). His contested numbers are very good (as are his disposal numbers in general) but he is extremely damaging on the outside with explosive run and carrry and getting the ball forward and creating scoring opportunities.

He'd be perfect for us. Ive been all over him for ages. Perfect fit, Victorian boy at an expansion club, free agent at the right time (next year), massive Carlton and Judd fan growing up etc.

More than happy to toss him a 5 year/ 4 million deal next year, heavily front loaded (1.5 million in year one).

He comes free in that case. We get him and we keep pick 1. Id rather have Shiel and Lukosius running around for us in 2020-2025 when it matters, than only having Shiel.

I just get the feeling 'get him for free' might be a misconception...
What If: After delisting Delidio / Griffin - GWS decide to match the deal from Carlton...
Instead of getting the pick 10-15 FA compensation

Then: we need to do a 'Dangerfield' type trade - giving up a higher pick plus a player?

Its just risky... I don't know where I sit on it yet...

Exactly, no way pick 1 this year for shiel, maybe future 1st and this years 2nd

Doesn’t drafting Lukoscious kind of stamp McKays papers? Can’t play the modern game with Curnow, Lukoscious and McKay down there.
Hmmm...

I guess it really depends on each player, doesn't it? If Charlie can play like a midfielder on the spread - and get a little more manic about tackling in his running around the ground - then absolutely it can work. McKay needs to work on his repeat efforts, and his fitness; he also drops marks he gets both hands to, because AFL clubs draft kids before they've finished growing.

If Lukosius is everything that others say he is, then absolutely three talls can work, provided that not a single one of them is a liability when we don't have the ball. It could even provide something of a luxury tactically to have three such different and dynamic talls in the one team.

Picture this. Lukosius CHF, McKay deep. Opposition have the ball on the back flank, after a kick in. Charlie sits on the edge of the square, eyeballing them; he's watching to see how they commit, and if they do a long kick down the line he's going to mark it. Weitering and Marchbank take front position, and they go up too, but their positioning is mere cover for Charlie's leap at the thing, and he marks pretty much unopposed. He then kicks to the leading Lukosius - who knew what was going to happen before it did - and suddenly we're off, with Charlie overlap running and McKay running out of the square in a Ben Brown-esque fashion.

You can do that without 3 talls, but with some creativity in the football department we can use their overhead marking to our advantage.

The player that gets left in the cold won't be McKay, it'd be Kerr, who has made massive strides and is an incredibly hard worker, but will be a B+ player in the forward line rather than the potential 3 A++ players in McKay, Curnow and Lukosius.

Bear in mind, all of this is contingent on Lukosius being as good as described by the draft watchers. If he isn't, all bets are off.

After the weekends results , it looks as tho Pick 1 is ours..
Shiel is not worth missing out on Lukosious for.... This kid in our forward line with Charlie .. lordy me....
I reckon SOS will find another way to get Shiel.. But we must get this lad Lukosious..

Plus find a way to get another top 10 pick and get Smith Hately or Rankine [emoji6]

Great post. The best thing for us is for Charlie to play midfield & forward when needed. Real X factor and hard to shutdown

We will also get BSOS this year. Don’t rule out Macreadie either as an option. Can play and I am more than confident McKay will be a star. Kerr could be as well.

Options and depth and all good

Agreed, plenty of people on here don't watch GWS, hes a gun.

Dylan Shiel

Yeah wouldn't mind him he's a bit of a gun, would hate to break the bank on a player like him though, too inconsistent and his profile makes him expensive even if we do get him as a FA he'd expect big bucks likely.

Bit overrated for me though.

If we can get him on 600-700 as a FA that would be great, unlikely though.
