Offer Dylan Shiel

8 Mill / 6 Years

If theres one player in the AFL i could choose that we exactly need it would probably be him except a right footed one.

Best footy ahead of him. Should love the etihad deck. Explosive breakaway and line breaking ability.

Is Kieran Lovell (Hawks) and Darcy Cameron (Swans) worth a look? Lovell is an inside mid and Cameron goal kicking ruck. Apparently both racking up the stats but can’t get a look in with their current teams.

We already have 5 players like Kieran Lovell (174cm mid who has decent speed and ok skills).

Smith, Colyer, McGrath and to a lesser extent Walla and Fanta already occupy the position he would take in the side and are all much more established talents.

Cameron i'd take a look at - but no idea what he's like.
only read the AFL website updates and they always call him out as a hard working, ball getting ruck.
I do wonder how invested the writers get in certain players though.

Still, for a cheap enough get and if we delist Berger, i'd like to have some depth in that position. If Draper ends up being more FF than ruck, even better. Cameron could take over TBC one day.

Willem Drew would be worth looking at IMO.
Excellent junior inside mid. Strong 2017 in the SANFL.
Injured most of this year. Out of contract.
Could get him for next to nothing.
I've got a bee in my bonnet about targeting 2016 draftees. You look at the ones we have that are not yet established - Ridley, Mutch, Clarke and Begley. We rate them all. If another club got in their ear we'd get a packet of chips for each. So in my view, we should be doing the reverse. Identifying 2016 draftees coming out of contract who due to injuries, playing for good sides (or a side with depth in their area) or whose body is just not yet read, and hence have struggled to get into the AFL side. And therefore, whose price should be discounted. Looking at the 2016 draft, examples would be:
  • Brodie
  • Scrimshaw
  • Shai Bolton
  • J. Atley
  • Drew
  • J. Williams
All went before Mutch in the draft, and most haven't had too many AFL games to my knowledge. All play roles we could use more of, especially more talented versions. Obviously, it depends on how many of these guys are going in the state leagues, but I really hope the club are monitoring them and talking to them.

One other who doesn't quite fit this bracket is Galluci. I know he's getting games now, so may not want to leave, and his value not quite as reduced. But he is from Melbourne, he was a top 20 pick, a goal kicking midfielder with speed, and Crows are good at picking players. He's still averaging only 11 disposals a game, so hopefully his price won't have changed too much, and the Crows have a deep midfield. Get in his ear, and try and get him to come back home.

We really need to know the rule changes the AFL intend to implement before picking our targets, Slower inside mids with little spread may become liabilities if they speed up the game.
It depends, with zones you may find the quick kick becomes more of a weapon in the past. If clubs actually have forwards to contest the ball, and less spare defenders.

Add Setterfield to that list!

If Dan Hannebery wants out, our first with a second coming back should get it done. Down on form the last two years but we all know his ceiling. Will need a thorough medical beforehand though

Isn't he just a Zaharakis type?

Mostly an outside player with some ability to win disputed ball, not really a contested midfielder?

Nah he's cooked, Shadow of his former self. I'd say he isn't even best 22 for the Swans now and is currently only getting a game on name alone.

Well when you take out Hannebery's 3xAA, AFLCA player of the year award, Ron evans medal and his premiership; then yeah they are basically the same.

I didn't say he was at the same level, just a similar type.

Zaharakis can win a disputed ball, but isn't a contested beast, does most of his work on the outside.

Hannebury - to me - is much the same kind of player, just (when not injured) at a higher level.

He's probably worth more in a trade due to name than he is on performance the last 18 months.

Nah Lovell is undersized, average skills, slightly above average pace and can't crack it in a average team. It's kinda like recruiting the wing version of Josh Green

Dont mind the idea as to buying low. Unfortunatly wed be paying a hefty contract til the end of 2021
