Well yeah, 52 posts in total all arguing whether Henderson/Langford/Miles should be kept.....not really what I want to read when I see notifications for the big fish thread.

I’m sure I wasn’t alone. :D
To be fair, most threads at the moment descend into this debate.

The club can't possibly be happy with our current squad and finishing mid table is unlikely to get us picks that will result in quickly developed elite talent.

It makes no sense to reject grabbing elite talent FAs and spend time with average picks, playing lottery around whether we get draft steals.

For mine, it's either go after guys like Lynch and Gaff, or bottom out and get into the pointy end of the draft. Sitting mid table and doing nothing in the FA space is a recipe for disaster.

Nailed it.

Combination of smashing FA and holding on to early picks.

It's not rocket science.

There was about 5 clubs supporters falling over themselves to post that JOM would be open to joining them, that he had huge upside if he could get over his injuries and that he would be a good get....until he named Hawthorn as his desired home, and then he became a broken down has-been with no future.

Almost the same thing for Mitchell. Ball magnet, fantastic mid with a big future....until he named Hawthorn.

It may have seemed like that but it was most likely * supporters bitter JOM picked us, headfcuked Geelong fans, aggrieved COLA fans and 2-3 Suns converts.

North, Blues, Druggies and Saints for most of the year.

Disagree it is rocket science. 4 quality FAs a year and 18 clubs. Makes it a near impossible task to prize players away from their clubs. Add quality academy picks for NSW clubs combined with go home factor for kids from interstate and mature recruit considerations etc. Draft position and trading future picks thrown into the mix. Going for a lay down.

It’s easy to say that in retrospect but the club were talking up their chances at the start of the year after a brilliant second half to last season and probably thought we had the cannon fire to compete. Players like O’Brien have Burton have stalled or gone backwards and our older guys like Burgoyne and Rough are basically cooked. We’re on 9 wins, even if we threw them all from now, we only likely to go back a couple of spots on the ladder. So we have to stay the course...

I get the feeling Lynch ain't coming to us and it has nothing to do with him being seen with Balme.

If you are Lynch you wannna play finals and out of the 3 clubs being discussed we are the worst placed.

We probably won't put a god father offer in either to convince him it's just not what we do.

I don't think we were ever a chance with Lynch to begin with. Forget finals, we are likely to play finals this year anyway. We just aren't going to put the offer in due to our pay structures. It would be an incredible about-face to go match $1.4m that Collingwood or Richmond look likely to offer. I'm not sure why people in these threads kid themselves the way they do. Every year, Dangerfield / Fyfe / Martin and this year Lynch. I'm sure we have something cooking, but far more likely in the $5-800k range.

I’m hearing our offer is the best of the lot. And we can keep going.

All depends if he wants us. If so, we will make it happen. Clarko is going all in.

I am not doubting you but i cannot believe that.

Unless this is a one off I can't see us giving the most coin.

And if i am being honest if I were Lynch i would choose Pies or Tigers over us for less $$$$ everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

Those teams play in front of 60k minimum at the G and are contenders for a few years to come.

We can't even get 30k to Burgoynes 350th.

I have no idea his motivations but he comes across as the type of bloke who isn't motivated by $$$.

You may be right. But it’s not just about onfield success and coin. They help.

But it’s also about the fitness and medical team, mates like Jaeger, location to family and other things. Senior coach plays a big part, and who they want to play for.

I’d say he’s made the decision already. We’ll all know pretty soon I reckon.

You bring up a good point regarding fitness.

Do we even want Lynch given his knee injuries?

Is he a risk?.

Probably less risk then JOM i guess.

That was absolutely disgraceful, along with our crowd we got to our only Friday night game against the Swans.

If I am a free agent and I am looking at our slow game style from afar I would be looking elsewhere very quickly.

Our game style of keepings off through surgical kicking is finished. Jeff bangs on about poor crowds but I can tell you that we are not much fun to watch play sometimes.

We said as a club 12 years ago we wouldn’t play players or recruit players unless they had elite kicking skills. That has been thrown out the window.

Get our game style right, make it exciting to watch, move on the list cloggers and the crowds and free agents will come knockin again.....

I think that's a particularly pessimistic view to take. If you'd asked that question a year ago, you'd prob still take the Hawks over those clubs. Even at the start of the year, most of the footy world weren't tipping the Pies to be going anywhere. Things change very quickly in footy.

We still have arguably the best footy department, best coach, set to have best facilities with Dingley, 80k + members, etc.

The Burgoyne game was pretty bad, but don't forget it was the same night as Australia's biggest game in world football, probably ever. I'm diehard Hawks, but was watching world cup....

That would have been Vs Italy in 2006.

You talk like Collingwood are actually a good team. Let's see where they come the end of Round 23.
