Oh god. I had him going to somewhere early but then thought they wouldn't take him and forgot to put him back in. Would have gone to the Dogs with Taylor probably slipping to Hawthorne
Like i said, if ge is there at 8 i would take him in a heartbeat and get whoever falls of RCD/Smith/Hateley at 11 if the board falls as you think.

Rankine is far too good to pass at 8.

Few very good KPF’s are taken outside the first round
Have to disagree with you there, looking at this years Coleman leaderboard 5 of the top 10 KPF's were drafted outside of the 1st round that's not including Cameron or Hogan who technically weren't drafted.

Hawkins was due to the stupid F/S rules at the time, was rated in the top 10; Hogan was really the #2 rated kid of his draft class; Cameron was extremely highly rated. So really only 3 in Brown, McDonald and Gunston.

I'm late to the party but Beams would be a great get if his legs weren't made out of marshmallows and tooth floss

+Darling = 4

I'll give you Hawkins

Only fell due to attitude problems and not wanting to leave WA.
Still doesn't help your argument that very good KPF's can't be found outside the first round.

Who's to say we couldn't find one with "attitude problems" in the 2nd round or a "nice boy" Ben Brown in the 3rd??

Actually he was taken as an end of first round priority pick by West Coast, so you're down to 3. Give me your top 10 key forwards of the past 5 years. And the one for the next 5 years.

Yes he's a spud.

There was a reason he is still playing vfl after an enormous year in the vfl last year. He isn't anything other than a decent role player. Good for other teams not for us. Brayshaw (talent but dreaming), Tyson (potential), or Brodie (GCS Potential) are where our focus should be.

Geez He was pick #26 because of GC concessions. Calling him a first round pick is very much a technicality.

Last 5:
Buddy, JJK, Riewoldt, Hawkins, Roughead

Next 5:
Daniher, Lynch, Brown, Hogan, Hipwood

Yes only 1 of them was taken outside the 1st round it doesn't change the fact that "very good KPF's can be found outside the first round".

Any 20+ selections such as Brown, Darling, Mcdonald, Gunston, Walker or M. Mcgovern would be great acquisitions for our forward line.

Walker was a NSW scholarship selection FWIW

Jeremy Cameron - 17 year old pre selection
Josh Kennedy (WCE) - pick 4
Jack Darling - pick 26 whom many rated the best KPF in his draft year only falling due to attitude and want to stay in W.A
Jack Gunston - is he even a genuine KPF? Pick 29 if you want to include him
Eric Hipwood - Pick 14 and Brisbane academy selection
Josh Jenkins - pest, junk time specialist. Rookie draft pick

The argument was good KPF's can't be found after the 1st round when clearly they can. Taking into consideration outside factors or not, the fact is good KPF's can be found outside the 1st round.

Ok, I'll re word it.

The very best key forwards are found earlier in the draft. Football Clubs have a better strike rate of finding a high end key forward earlier in the draft

Our list doesn't have any big enough holes not to go clear best available with our first round selection .
Yeah our list is at a stage where we need to go for needs not best avaible.

Agreed! Our biggest need is inside midfielders

We don't need a very good KPF though, just a co-pilot for Joe. Joe, Stringer and Raz are all 40 goal a year forwards and they aren't that old either.

I understand this. But as we have found out this year, we have 0 KPF depth when Joe went down. McKernan came from no where to prove himself at AFL level.

For the record, the form that McKernan has shown this year and the depth we do have in the wings (Stewart, Brown) we should be fine for a KPF this year. Obviously we will need one at some stage. I don't mind the idea of a KPF later in the draft, just won't be expecting them to be a world beater.
