Review Malcolm Blight - Last Touch Rule, Interchange Cut, 20m Goal Square

I quite like the last kick rule in the SANFL. It stops players kicking for the boundary reset and take away any confusion in deliberate out of bounds.

I really don't understand how this 6,6,6 zoning rule will stop congestion over most of the game. It is only applicable for a tiny percentage of the game. It is a half arsed measure, like our one way freeway.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing that at AFL level. The deliberate out of bounds rule is one of the worst officiated in the league. Intent varies from team to team, player to player, and most importantly, depending on the time of the game. You can deliberately kick it out 10 times in the first 10 minutes and not be penalised, but in the last 5 minutes of a close game? Anything that goes out is deliberate.

Looks like the first move will be a 6 - 6 - 6 set up for centre bounces in 2019.

Ya know what?

I don't mind this because it will open up the game at each centre bounce and we might see a few decent 1 on 1 duels. I doubt we will see anywhere near as many incidents if 36 players in 1/4 of the ground.

And that can only ve a good thing.

*Rotations to 60
*Umpires ball it up super quick like they used to with no nominations but can't have 2nd man up
* umpires pay free kicks in congestion for incorrect disposal more strictly , and too high, in the back and holding the ball . Especially holding the ball - get rid of it or else you're gone
* less time before calling a ball up

If that isn't good enough have 4 umpires every game and have 2+2 in F50 every ball up like national U18 anti density rules

6-6-6 doesn't matter much , it's not the starting point of centre bounce that's an issue at all

I think it mainly comes down to umpire interpretation , faster ball ups and reduction of rotations to fix it with anti density as the next trigger of necessary the year after

Also a left of field idea.

Get rid of the need to bounce the ball when running with it.

It is literally the only rule designed to slow the game down.

Personally, I love seeing a player stream down the wing bouncing the ball, but I wonder what would happen if it was removed.
Don't see that as the issue it's the ball up and that play around the ball up thats the issue not the game when it's in open space

I suggested the last touch rule to the AFL several years ago, due to many rules being derived from interpretation, but with caveats. That being a free kick for the ball being kicked and a free hand pass from a ball being touched over the line otherwise.

WTF is wrong with the 3rd man up at the ruck contest anyway?

It happened a few times a game only. The ruckmen don't get shorter as the game goes on either.
AFL make a rule to prevent 3rd man up which was used to clear congestion...then look to bring in new rules to deal with congestion...

For a minute I thought you were talking about Rugby Union, or even Gridiron (which has 4 x 15 minute quarters and goes for 3-4 hours  ). :D
Aussie Rules is like draughts to their chess.
I was at a Taipans game with the kids.
The last 80 seconds of the game took over ten minutes. I’m not kidding. It was bazaar.

It would look like NRL.

Hot tub time machine to the mid eighties anyone?

Bring back third man up. Hand up Ruck contest actually drew more in.
Third man up actually created more open run on space.
By protecting the ruck duties the afl actually created more congestion.

I’d go third man up and taking of the legs first. All things that were bought in in the first place.
These Dick heads are just amending things they’ve already implemented first.

The game is a self perpetuating rugby scrum where the umpire see’s a loose ball and doesn’t care about incorrect disposal. AFL fault in the first place.

They’ve already started getting the 70’s style elbows in the face happening lately. Back to the future.

I want full zones & 17-5

Really want 17-5
Can't tell if taking the piss or not, but if not, why are you for zones?

I think it's a terrible idea and hoping like hell there's a big push against some of these crazy rules that have been floated about but curious as to why you're an advocate for zones?
