Gold Coast have club rooms, I know a team that doesn’t.

Maybe they could merge?

Nah. I don't see how merging with a shit franchise with no history would be an appealing option to Gold Coast.

Front bar has been shitting all over the footy show for years now... well, last year at least.

i have no idea how the footy show is still on the air.
I can't believe anyone watches either of those shows but then I still (skim) read The Advertiser.

Way to keep interest in a new league. After three rounds half the supporters would have no hope of finals.
Lol. No one going to AFLW matches are seriously invested in whether their team is going to make the Grand final. At this stage it's girls (and their parents), with some women going to watch women having the chance to play football at a (semi-)decent level. Winding it back make sense, since it was rolled out too fast, in a blatant attempt for Gil to have a legacy. Better to start small and stable, then big and brittle.

AFL are going to have to be careful how they handle AFLW
What you say is right and I can't see women being treated poorly by the AFL taking it quietly.
The whole concept is fine but it deserves respect from the game's administrators.
A good place to start would be talking to the players and stakeholders before coming up with half baked ideas.

really? their supporters are A grade flogs and have milked this flag for all its worth and more already. cotchin getting off after KOing GWS player (can't remember who) was one of the MRPs worst calls ever, maybe even worse than big bad bazza getting a GF gig.

rance is one of the most hateable flogs in the game. a holier than thou jehovah's witness who's not above cheapshotting (elbow to jack watts in the back of the head, plus he lost it in that 2014 final when we were pumping them), yet still manages to be the worst diver in the game. the fact he's overrated to high hell makes him more annoying. don't get me wrong he's a very good player, but when you get continually touched up in true 1 on 1 contests, you can't be called one of the best defenders ever.

riewoldt and his sooky lala antics and ridiculous posturing with the killers

i don't really dislike martin but he has gotten a ridiculously good run with the umps this year after winning the brownlow

ellis? conca? these shouldn't need explaining.

their brigade of annoying small forwards irritate me to no end, but that's not really a logical hate. castagna is an annoying name though.

If port win a flag this year, ill be milking it as much if not more so than the Richmond fans this year.

Richmond are fine, they are actually a fun team to watch and see players like Higgins say stupid/funny stuff all the time is a refreshing change to the typical media managed statements.

I like them as far as liking another team goes. Will still laugh if they mess everything up horribly and go back to being 'richmondy' however.

That's on the public stage, out of the lime light he's errrr exactly the same. A member of my extended family worked for RFC
as of 2yrs ago and can confirm ^ as fact. Maybe and it's a big maybe he's changed.

There's going to be some sort of implosion as it's Richmond, it will be epic, though I can't see what it will be.

I agree that 6 rounds is probably right. But it should have been started on 6 games, human nature is to assume that you are being poorly treated if something is taken away. Adding extra teams while taking away a round is insanity.

Juxtaposing the Higgins goal to the Sam Powell-Pepper's goal - throwing the ball a bit upwards to kick the ball is fine. There is no definition of what is the correct way to kick the ball. Throwing it up a bit to catch it then kick it like Melbourne's Russell Robertson did a decade ago, isn't allowed. That's a throw.

I'm pro Gold Coast remaining and moving a Melb club to Tasmania.
:thumbsu:
Bottom line is the AFL have the bottom line to ride out GCS current woes. Fast growing area with more and more ageing
baby boomers from the footy states moving there. Also the academy that Kurt Tippett went thru' is on the Gold Coast.
Eventually QLD will produce more and more AFL talent.

the AFL just wanted the good publicity from AFLW, now that it's come to make hard decisions about the quality of the game - they're in too deep. Now they are ****ed if they do and ****ed if they don't, which was always going to be the case with something that's clearly a delicate thing in terms of being called sexist if they do X, and "the game is shit" if they don't do X.

They'll be wondering if the whole thing is more trouble than it's worth. I really hope it doesn't get ruined by bullshit on all sides.

I don't remember the Robertson goal you're referring to, but I feel the throw should only come in if it is getting rid of the ball. "Throwing" to yourself is ok - if it's not then bouncing the ball is technically "throwing" as it is propelling it by hand.

I have no issue with Higgins' goal, was a great spectacle, too.

I think the AFL are smart enough to realise the situation with AFLW. I still think they're doing the best thing for the long term of the women's game. If AFLW were to split into it's own independent body it wouldn't get the TV rights that it has and would have nowhere near the level of support/funding/advertisement etc. that it gets.

People just have to settle and realise that you need to play the long game here - yeah it's going to be a bit of a "mickey mouse" tournament for the next probably 10 years until you genuinely get a generation of young girls who have watched "elite" women's footy, aspiring to play at that level, who have played their whole life and have had all the development opportunities who will raise the game to another level.

As the level of talent and therefore spectacle increases they'll be able to compete more as an "independent" sport. But then the reality is it will almost certainly never be the level of competition that AFL is. So they'll either have to accept low crowd numbers and TV viewer as they go head to head with AFL match times, or accept that they need to fit in more with AFL down time to maximise exposure.

What has the AFL announced to make you write the above Doc.

The only way out is to play to the same rules (and teams) as the men's game and let it live or die on those merits alone.

I wondered where Tippett learnt to throw his head back every time he went for the ball, thanks B F. ;)

Relatively young?

The Gold Coast is largely a retirement village largely populated by ex-Victorians. I suspect the AFL was banking on most of these to jump on the GCS bandwagon but I wouldn't think there would be many older people to switch their VFL/AFL allegiance.

I was referring to the age of the city, not its inhabitants.

I'm glad you added 'on all sides' there, because some of the entitled shit being sprouted by some of the AFLW players right now is extraordinary.

It's like the 130 years of men's AFL football before it became fully professional never happened. You had to leave your family and move somewhere else to follow your dream? Well boo ****ing hoo, nobody told you you had to do this. One is even moaning that she may have to go back to her day job as a doctor.

They want to go from no league at all to the same as men in a couple of years when it should rightly take generations to build.

The AFL had no obligation to create, run and fund this. Tell them to **** off and run it themselves and see how they go.

Gill'n'Steve clunked their noggins together and reduced the length of the season while expanding to 10 teams.

Just add a tassie team an NT and a few more vic/SA/WA teams and create a second division for uncompetitive teams like Gold Coast, Carlton, Fremantle and Adelaide to move into.
