Good to see all three of North Members on this thread. I feel honoured.

The North board and the Eagles board have a brother agreement which is why pants gets free run over there. The other two, I have no idea.

Sure, I get that and the system does suck, but is he worth destablising your trade/list/salary strategy for this year?

Maybe, maybe not. I would guess that the Lycett situation may be the determinate factor here as he'll give you more wriggle room on the salary front, but even then, you'll need new ruck depth.

Ahhh rucks. Thats something Norths can help us out with........in a trade for Gaff.

Or Goldstein for 2 years as a gesture of good will:D.

There's going to be so much blue and white heartbreak when Gaff doesn't sign with North Melbourne.

Like a Mark Wahlberg/Donnie Wahlberg deal? Where you run our errands and cook our eggs?

Or more like these guys?

It's not really a van, it's more of a camper.

Nah, I've already leaked the jumper unveiling on the North board.

Thanks mate. Long term posters might fondly remember when I first leaked Petrie to West Coast on this forum.

On the category b rookie, 6”6 ruck/forward prospect

I liked these quotes.

“One of the big things I noticed when I went up there was the group of guys that they had, everyone on their list, made me feel real welcome,” Bines said. “They seem liked a tight group of guys; very different to a lot of other clubs I saw.

“They’ve shown that they can develop young guys, and their program’s one of the best in the AFL; if not the best, from what I’ve heard from other players and what I saw. That was the best fit for me, and moving to Perth will be easy, just being around those guys.”

It’s that commitment that made his answer swift, when asked where he sees himself in five years: “Hopefully playing consistent footy at the Eagles,” Bines said. “Like I’ve said before, I’m really big on loyalty, so once I start somewhere at a club, I wanna finish with that club as well, like I had with the Melbourne Tigers my whole career.”

If Gaff has his heart set on moving home and he accepts the hypothetical North offer, West Coast should be threatening to match and dealing with North or matching and dealing with every other Melb club.

E.G. If Gaff decides he wants to go to North and West Coast match and North cant trade (already trade for Polec with first rounder) then Saints come to the party with their first rounder and same $, Gaff's choices are stay with West Coast, goto the Saints with same pay or go to the draft (where he'll probably be drafted by the Saints). I'm sure between all the relevant management teams we can make sure that Andrew is satisfied as are the Eagles and the team he chooses. He is a RFA so it's not as easy for him as an UFA.

I've said it before, I think he's staying although now with what's happened with his dad I'm not so sure anymore. Anyway focus for him right now would & should be with his family.

North's isn't under pressure at all.

North are already a monty for Polec (this is coming from a bloke who never though Kelly or Martin were coming last year), not including being in the driver's seat for Hall this year and quite possibly Kelly next year. As good as Gaff is (and he's much, much better than Polec), North wouldn't be as desperate once North use its first for Polec.

North don't have the picks to go into a trading war and you guys probably won't have the salary room to go after your targets if you did match the Gaff offer. You're best banking the compo pick and using it to pick up Kelly, who is already a gun and would be looking at coming home, if not now, very soon.

Out of contract.

One of those player's who is really rated on Bigfooty, but appears not to be rated by the club. Very quick, fit, defensively minded, a thumping kick, tackles all day and works hard, but is a fairly average kick, it's shit, but it's not great either. Strange that he isn't getting a game, he'll come very cheap if he comes back. He'll be a handy rookie for your team.

That was out desperation with the tagging.

Zurhaar just re-signed for a few years. A good WA lad, not a big tank on him, but he's built like a brick shit-house. Same with young West Aussie Kyron Hayden, absolute man-child, but not tank again. North always seems to do well with its West Australian players.

LOL - TLDR We want Gaff for free so give him too us.

Use your first on Polec, and potentially cost your self in trade. You run that risk. If you can't make a trade work, we keep our player with an overpay, or trade him to another Melbourne team.

Our best bet is to do what ever we can to extract the most value possible. If that's free agent compo then do that, in this case it is highly unlikely so match and trade.
