So didn't Wingard sook out this year when he had to play forward? So why would he go to a finals bound club if they wanted him to play as a forward? Do if he goes, wouldn't he want midfield time?

Anyway - Do you think they are using Wingard as a spy to check out other clubs facilities and game plans...?

weve built an atmosphere where players feel comfortable. Long term contracts, gold passes, no real threats to list spots, everyone is just comfortable and it shows. We need to light a fire under the whole list, if making some people who would think they're too good, safe and comfortable feel a little heat for once then im all for it

This is very true but there are probably better ways to go about rectifying the problem than trading out your best players.

Edit I put this in the Polec thread to see how we have handled 4 and 5 year deals and players approaching free agency. 3 years took Polec to 8 years and he would have been a free agent after that contract. Mods have moved it.

Wines signed a 4 year contract after 2 not 3 of the Friday, Thursday, Friday night triple header home games. His form went down after signing, not straight away but it went on a downward trend and people stopped talking about him as the automatic next captain.

If we have overpaid Wines like we did Hartlett panicking because there was talk he would walk out and we miss out on Polec then that's more bad contract management.

We need our best players in 2019 not worry about 2022 and onward. That is the start of another premiership window, because 2019 or 2020 will be the last years with all of Boak, Gray, Westhoff, Ryder, Dixon, Rockliff, Hartlett, Motlop, Watts, Ebert, Jonas and Wingard.

From Forza's list and memory these are the 4 and 5 years deals we have handed out since Free agency started in 2012 and since we started handing them out regularly post 2014 season.

2013 March Carlile signs a 4 year deal 2014-17
2013 Dec Boak was signed to end of 2014, gave him 4 years 2015-18 and then in Dec 2015 give him a 1 year extension
2014 Dec Lobbe already signed for 2015 signs a 4 year deal 2016-19
2014 Dec Gray had 1 year left but supposedly signed for 3 more years 2016-18 and Dec 2015 signs a 1 year extension. *** Robbie signs a deal in May 2012 which doesn't say if 2 or 3 years
2014 Oct Ryder signs on for 5 years 2015-19
2015 May Broadbent signs a 4 year deal 2016-19
2015 Oct Dixon signs on for 5 years 2016-2020
2015 Oct Hartlet was already signed for 2016, signs 5 years until end 2021
2017 Oct Motlop signs on for 4 years 2018-2021
2017 Oct Rockliff signs on for 4 years 2018-2021
2018 June Wines signs a 4 year deal 2019-2022

Post 8 year contract re free agency kicking in
2017 August Pittard signs on for 3 years 2018-2020

So looking at guys who approached free agency
2005-13 draftee Carlile given 4 years at start of 2013
2006-14 draftees Boak and Gray signed long term deals Hoff continues on 1 year deals
2007-15 draftee Lobbe signed on long term then traded
2008-16 draftees Hartlett and Broadbent signed on long term Jacko got 2 year deal last contract in 2015
2009-17 draftee Pittard signed 3 year deal
2010-18 draftee Jonas signed a 3 year deal in October 2016 takes him to end of 2019
2011-19 draftee Wingard signed a 3 year deal in Dec 15 already signed to 2016 takes him to end of 2019

Maybe you could drop players who are out of form rather than saying 10% of wingard is better than a souped up kane farrell.

I wonder why they are complacent?

I guarantee you'll find new loves pretty quickly.

I’m starting to love the Rugby Codes... seriously. Living in the ACT probably plays a role in that, but so does the Port/AFL circus. I’m going to Japan next year for the World Cup. The NRL finals have been superb spectacles too.

Hang on ... people know that the game plan has been rubbish and that Hinkley is not coaching well enough and has some peculiar selections but the players have to pull their finger out and stand up? They're only as good as what they are programmed to do. So trading your fewer but better skilled players will really show em? It takes a special player to perform well in a poor system and so the rest of your talent needs the right development. Many of our great Magpies players may not have been great if our system was like West Torrens.

i didnt ignore that, i just know why people are asking for the club to come out and say these are the reasons we want to trade wingard when the club hasnt said that at all.........
Its people on this forum that have been saying there are 'reasons'.

I want those people to spill. Unless it's something that'll bring the game into disrepute, I'm not sure why they aren't.

I'm not too fussed about the club not coming out as we don't even know if they have talked about a trade.

Port are one of the clubs sniffing around Jayden Hunt, his management are open to options despite being contracted for another two years.

Would be very happy with this. Has the pace and offensive weapons that we need more of in our back line.

Hunt would be an ok target as long as he comes at the cost of an amon or Neade swap. Our non starting players get traded out for peanuts so I wouldn’t want to be paying too much for other sides reserves players.

There is enough 1 rule for you another rule for us bullshit against port in the league as it is.

Yeah he’s very flaky but when he’s on he looks like a gun.

Carlton have shown interest.
He's a bloody good kid. I think it's a huge disappointment that we brought in Rockliff this year and as a result he didn't get a crack. We would've been better off long term getting games into Atley IMO.

Whilst I think he has a long way to go, hope he stays, like what I saw from him last year.

Personally I prefer to stand on my pillows and pee directly on the middle of the quilt.

You guys with your supine let it trickle technique need to adjust.

That being said, I could bear losing Wingard if the price is right, the price being 2020-2021 success but I am not sure if that's likely with the current come drinker* in the coaches box

*Ok that was a Google Glide Keyboard typo and meant to say Coke.

Too bad Jen, it stays

Would be happy with both Hunt and Stretch especially with Polec gone. Both young and quick and a upgrade on most of our current wingers. Hopefully we can score them at a low cost.
