If West Coast make the Grand Final, i'm more than fine with them wearing there clash but that is if we make it and also if we play Richmond. At least we would still be wearing some sort of wings.

We wore royal against Richmond this year who also wore their traditional strip.

No need for any clash jumpers in a Richmond v West Coast GF, I think we wore our clash away to them last year as a nod to our first AFL fixture, when we wore our home gold jumper against the Tigers.

I agree there would be no need for the peril. However if that's how it went down, I wouldn't have a problem wearing our clash.

Interestingly, I think there are now 4 teams whose clash guernsey used to be their main guernsey. WCE, Pies, North and Swans.

Clubs should be wearing preferred jumpers in a Grand Final.
Last years Tiger Tulip Tunics were bloody shocking, It's not black and white tv anymore, [ can I say black ].
COLORED shorts for one, white for the other, get over it and get on with it.

Mate clash jumpers don't exist just for people with 70 inch ultra 4k HD TVs to tell the difference.

They exist mainly for the players and umpires who need to make split second decisions over who to kick it to/who to call the free against and clashes minimise the chance of the ball/a free kick going to the wrong team. Clash jumpers maximise the constrast - this minimises the chances of an error being made.

And the Tiges clash is easily one of the best in the league (why would they have been willing to wear it in a grand final and in the medal presentation if they thought it was a shit clash?)

And that potshot at 'the left' just makes you look like an arse

Yep you're right. The jumper we prefer is the one that contrasts best with the other team's. And the one they wore in the same matchup in round 6. Just because it's the GF doesn't mean the jumpers suddenly don't clash.

Clubs should wear their preferred jumper in a grand final where possible.

What happens if the Eagles and Bulldogs play in a grand final?

White shorts isn’t going to provide enough contrast between 2 royal jumpers.

Richmond will be in their full home strip on Grand Final day, that’s a given if they make it.

If it’s against the Eagles, then our royal strip with white shorts provides ample contrast.

If it’s against the Demons, chances are they will be in their royal strip.

If Collingwood qualify, they will likely be in their home strip regardless of their opponent. White shorts against West Coast, black shorts against Melbourne.

Saw some footage of our 94 PF against Melbourne, and we were in white shorts?? We finished the season on top of the ladder, won our QF, and were the home team for PF, so not sure why we were in white shorts?? Happened again in the 2012 semi against carlton, but that made slightly more sense (ever so slightly) because we had more white on our home, tri panel guernsey, it worked better for us to have white shorts, and Carlton in full navy. But in 94, we were wearing royal at home and away (same as this season) and still we had white shorts?

Same in 1992 GF. We knocked off Geelong in the second semi but two weeks later were in the white shorts.

Grand Finals I sort of get, especially from that era when even though we were the higher ranked side, we were still the "away" team, as the GF was, and will be until the year 6047, be played in Melbourne. But the Prelim was played in perth, so I don't see what melbourne didn't wear white shorts, against our full royal??

West Coast chose to wear their Royal jumpers with White shorts in finals those years because Hungry Jacks paid them to wear their jumpers instead of the SGIO jumpers. Hungry Jacks wanted the premiership cup handed to a bloke with a Hungry Jacks logo
Uniforms in the early 90s were a kit.
The Away uniform was the Hungry Jacks logo on the Royal jumper, White shorts and WCE socks.
This was what was worn.
Had SGIO coughed up some extra coin for finals, they would have worn Blue shorts.
Check the logos worn in each finals series, it's usually Hungry Jacks, even though SGIO were Home sponsors.

In 1994 SGIO sponsored one final, and they wore the Blue shorts accordingly.
By 1996 West Coast had made an arrangement with their sponsors that included wearing the Home or Away uniform based on where they were playing.

So the 94 prelim final guernsey march up on the footy jumpers website is incorrect. We wore the SGIO branded home jumper that day.
Good pick up on the SGIO.
Now fixed.
As for why, maybe the AFL decided the darker jumpers wore dark shorts those days.
For what it's worth, North played Geelong as the Home team in the other Prelim Final in 1994 and also wore White shorts.

Crows wore white shorts vs Essendon in the '93 Prelim despite being the "home" team

That was surely a home game for Essendon. They finished top and we finished 5th. The won their semi and we lost ours. Game was at the MCG but back then there had to be a game there every week of the finals and there was only one Prelim.

We did play a “home” final at the MCG against Melbourne in 2002, but we wore navy shorts and Melbourne wore white.

Yeah not sure how much thought went into it back then. I always assumed for the GFs we were in, even though we may have been the higher ranked team, we were still the “away” team due to playing at the G so white shorts it was, and I have no issue with that. It was just odd that at home we were in them.

Grand Final was a coin toss back then, so either you lost it, or won it but chose to wear white. I’m led to believe that at least one of the Crows GFs we won the toss but chose white. As for the non-GFs, I can only think they went for the “lighter jumper” rule.

Must of been the other way around. If there was only one Prelim back then, and assuming Top Five or Six, and they won their Semi and you guys lost yours then the match up would not have happened; you guys would have been KO and Essendon would have gone straight through and bypassed the Prelim.

So it'll be black and white against royal either way, right?

Would be very cool seeing that Dees jumper in the September sun but there's a part of me that wishes Collingwood wear white and black. If they won a premiership in that, you'd really be pushing a case for it being full-time.
