Paine is an alright guy to have our there batting for a draw, but can he really help put us in a decent position? I'm still quite skeptical.

Others have observed that we're so obsessed with batting out time that we've mostly forgotten to rotate the strike.
Batting out time is one thing, that's a skill in itself. Being able to hit gaps is another. Batsmen who lack smarts tend to fall into the 4 or nothing category. Being able to think your way through an innings is vita to succeeding at any level of the game. If you want an effect of T2O this would be the major one to my mind.

The problem with needing to bowl out sides for 150-200 every first innings to be competitive, which is where we're at right now, is that 1) you need to get pretty much every on-field decision right (which Paine can't do) and 2) it just isn't a realistic proposition.

there is no intent

You have to rotate the strike otherwise its just a matter of time

India in the box seat
Reminds me when we used to dominate teams. The opposition would try and shut up shop and as you say 'Just a matter of time'. They would lose wickets in clumps.

Gotta show a bit more intent, even just to rotate the strike. The pitch isn't that bad

Is Smith's technique going to hold up in his later years?
IMO No - no way. It is heavily reliant on eye and hitting a shitload of balls. I have a ? on whether he gets back to anywhere near like he was.

Who would have thought India would have a first innings lead after scoring 250 o_O

The pitch looks quite blameless to me in truth.

Ashwin in particular has bowled well, but we've let them dictate terms more than we should have.

When you have a very different technique, if you get out poorly then it gets criticized.

Same with Maxwell, get out to a shit shot you get criticized

The trouble is Slats only does it when they’re Victorians.

Who is doing this game on the radio?

We have 2 different commentary teams on TV and 1 on radio?

Maybe getting a bit pseudo-psychoanalytical, but I honestly feel the lack of intent (and lack of valuing wickets in the Limited Overs) could be attributed to the side having a general sense of nothing really counting until Smith gets back. There really just seems to be a sense of losing being acceptable because there's a decent excuse for it permeating the team.

India top order were poor shots as were quite a few of ours. Obviously not the typical Adelaide road day 2 though

Yep, Ponting had a more orthodox technique than Smith but he still didn't age that well because he relied on his eye too much.

I suspect he'll become a more limited, but still very effective nudger.

They will then slam on 300+ when they bat again leaving us a total of around 400ish to chase for the win batting last.

We wont make 200 batting last!

We refuse to try to score eventually our batsmen will go out with not alot on the board. Try turning the strike over.

Come on, just one partnership.
Yep and it's not about boundaries. Is that absolute inability to take the many singles on offer and then strike over.
