I’m really interested to see how both the McKay boys go in 2019. Both will be looking at playing every week you would think. Ben has become vital for us all of a sudden with Maj not being available. There’s even a spot up forward for him if we needed it.

Would a good year for Harry be 25 goals and 20 games? They’re still so young but they feel like they’ve been around awhile.
25 goals after round 2, maybe !

McKay averaged 1.6 goals a game last year which would give him 32 in 20 and even that may be considered quite low.
This included 3 zero goal games.

McKay is clearly stronger, seems to be more focused and is obviously one year older and wiser than last year.

You never know what may come about, but a figure around 40 may be more around the mark of what the CFC would be looking for.
But is he older or younger than his brother?... very important !

I'm looking for:

Curnow: 45-50 goals
McKay: 35-40 goals
McGovern: 35-40 goals

No question that this is achievable given their individual/collective talent, remains to be seen how well the midfield functions and allows this to happen.

Not bad goals, I'd probably set Charlie at the same 35-40 goals though considering he won't play as deep.

Anyone still complaining about Bolton holding him back until he was ready?

What about some peoples (you know who you are) that he will spit it or he had a bad attitude or he and Bolton don't get along? Didn't he say he "loves the club"?

It was the right thing and McKay looks great and is in for a good year. Big picture

Never questioned that stuff, I questioned his ability, considering he never played above average consistently at VFL level, which is fair I would say.

This is what I never understand. A 20 year old tall coming back from a bad back injury and people query them after a few games whilst they are finding their feet against men. Amazing.

Has all the tools and will be a star. Just needs time

Excited to see what Harry can produce in 2019.

4th year in the system now so should be primed for a big impact but it's important to remember he's still so young - only just turned 21.

Would love to see that 1.6 goal per game average continue but sadly development doesn't work that way. I'm not expecting 40 goals in 2019 nor will it be disappointing if he doesn't get there.

I am hoping for 30+ and think that would be a terrific result.

Funny how when Bolton had the media scrutiny upon him, McKay came into the senior team.
He wasn't getting anywhere in the reserves the way we were going and this proved to be the case that his better football was played in the senior team.
Just this individuals observations.

That would make for an amazing result, although CCurnow may spend some time further up the ground not allowing him that figure.
Would be good though.

I really want to see him tear a few games apart with bags of 4 or 5 and be the dominant big man on the ground, knowing that at his age he is still going to have some quiet games.

Yep. Just 21, 15 games, long way to go.

Another 15 plus games and constant improvement and I will be very happy

His back issues were in the first half of 2016. He played out that season, then played most of 2017 and 2018 only missing a month or so of 2017 with toe issues. So no he hadn't only played a few games.

I'm not amazed you're amazed based on your previous comment history.

I like the way he runs fast and tuns quickly for a tall bloke - this is scary for defenders who like to double team talls stationary talls - hopefully there wont be much double teaming possible with Harry/Charlie and McGovern as tall mobile targets who can all take a grab very well - it will be all dependent on how much clean ball midfield can manage to win and hold and then properly deliver to advantage - something I haven't seen at Carlton for a few too many years - but ther eis more hope now with thte deevlopment of SPS/Fisher/LoB, the recruitment of Setterfield, Walsh and Stocker and hopefully ( finally) teh freeing up of Murphy for such tasks.

I'm hopeful and can feel the beginnings of confidence stirring in my nether regions.

17 VFL games in 2 years
NO pre seasons until this year
Last year had a thigh injury early in season which restricted him, then a virus that had him out for 2 weeks
Hasn't had a consistent run at it and now just starting to
21 year old and a young tall.
Now finally fit and starting to look like a mature footballer

Just the facts

Yet people spouted BS rumours about attitude, not liking Bolton and then picked because of media pressure. FFS
Will be gun but patience. 15-20 games this year would be great

Not exactly major setbacks the thigh and virus.

The rumours were exactly that and were taken with a grain of salt by anyone with multiple brain cells.

His ability however could be questioned when in both 2017 and 2018 he failed to make any meaningful impact at VFL level (which you love to ignore). And stating he had NO pre season before now is a bit of an exaggeration.

He looks good in the glimpses we've seen at senior level, but im no counting any chickens yet.

He had very little pre season. Means a lot

As for impact. Not sure what you expect from a 17-19 year tall old coming back from a bad injury? All you want is them getting through and showing some glimpses. He is also a bottom ager

Really believe some people have unrealistic expectations of young players. They take time

Will be a star. Has it all and importantly the work ethic

If Harry plays 20 games it’d be hard to see him not kicking 40 goals at least. We’ll kick it to him a lot and he’s hard to stop in the air with half decent service plus he’s nimble enough on the ground too.
It all depends on the improvement of our midfield, for which there are plenty of reasons to believe will be far superior to last year.

Too right. Not sure what we should‘ve expected from an 18-19yo 200cm kid who didn’t get a clean run at it.

Not even sure why we’re talking about McKay the teenager. The 2019 version is not quite the same player.

It is exciting to think of the impact Harry can have on our forward line from round 1 and beyond if he gets a good run at it. I think back to games last year like the first half against the doggies and especially gws where he could have easily had 5 goals to half time. Seeing him take marks over Phil Davis being double teamed by western Bulldogs is a taster for what to hopefully expect this year

My favourite picture.

For me Harry is our most important kid, if he can become a top five power forward in the AFL who can chop out in the ruck, we will advance quickly and stay relevant.

The only big forwards in the league who have done any good are those who can really run and aren't just mark or nothing. I think McKay will become his own type. He's really tall at 200cm which makes him a part time ruck and he's really good over head but he seems to have an ability to really move. Will be something between Josh Kennedy and Tom Lynch.

Having three players who can play pretty tall but are also good movers, it's going to be interesting watching this all unfold.

Playing second ruck and showing speed, he has some Joe Daniher about him, too. Daniher was pants last year (for a variety of reasons), but the year before was all superstar-y. I really like McKay as deep-forward and relief ruck.

I really enjoy watching Harry burn past Tom Langdon is a race for a loose ball on Monday. I like Langdon, he's a good player, good interceptor, seems a good egg all round. But what must he have been thinking when a unit 15cm taller and 10kg+ heavier than him ran the f*&^ past him? "Good god, I hope I don't get isolated on this guy again today".
