Autopsy Hawks fall in a heap against the Dogs - Rd 2, 2019

Second to the ball except the 3rd quarter.
Their one average ruckman broke even with our two.
Roughhead is poor overhead for a KPP basically no presence.
Sheils and Burger poor before their injury anyway so no great loss.
Yer the umpires were shit but our performance was no better, that game should of been over and a percentage booster in the last.

Hopefully some big heads have been deflated.
Burgoyne has stood up late in games how many times for us when we needed him to? And he isn't a big loss, not even mentioning Shiels. Also need to consider down 2 rotations early in the season is going to gas us. We should not have lost that game and it was a bad loss but come on...

Smiths arrogance to even ask for it is why he’s not captain, he has been huge many times but he has that me me me attitude.

Took words out of my mouth (keyboard).

Smith should not have asked for the give from the young player Cuz - he should have left him to patiently shoot for goal.. I was fuming about that.

Scully kick wide to open side of goal square was also a massive error, it was whisked away for an easy goal.

The umpires robbed us, but we should have been settled enough to win that game from 30 points up.

I thought we gave it away today with the stupid chest slaps and jumper punches.
We had momentum and only needed a minute or two more of control and smart football.
JOM gave up such a dumb one, when WE had the ball and looked to be shooting on goal. How you ever get your fee possession overturned through lack of discipline is beyond me. I get it if you lose a contest and want to rub it in, they already have the ball.
But to give it away.
Sheesh.

The two issues that the club needs to take up with the AFL:

1. The free kick against Worpel. It was vindictive and strongly suggests that the umpire is emotionally involved. It was an error by Worpel but in no way was it worth a free kick. Second year player.

2. The bigger issue is the frees against Sicily and O'Meara. We are at the end of round two and these have not been paid at all. Suddenly the umpires decide that they will award 2 frees at critical stages of the game in the last quarter.

How does the AFL and umpiring department reconcile these two massive issues being executed in one game at critical stages in the last quarter. There is just no way that these decisions just happened. Either the umpires have put themselves front and centre into the outcome of the match or they have been instructed to do so. The club needs answers to these questions.

Easy to lose interest in a sport that seems intent on rank amateurism at every turn.

Since when is a slight push in the chest worthy of deciding a game? We went from a goal up to one down in the space of 2 free kicks. I know I’m mad but the whole sport is fuccked, If this is the path we’re going down as a professional league then players like Luke Hodge won’t be around in a handful of years, just a bunch of boring methodical athletes who can run for longer than the last guy.

From what I heard the umps were handing out this so we must have known it was coming

That's a lie mate.

This is what the umps were really handing out:

Mitchell Lewis?

Dreaming if you think he will offer more than Roughy at this point.

Kids raw. Give him a year to find his feet and develop.

Can't expect to put the weight on his shoulders and watch him burn out.

I'm not concerned too much. I think the second quarter was really poor. But outside of that I think a number of circumstances collided. I think we'll still be up there this year.
We are bottom 6 material with that midfield.

Not a criticism just where i think we are at.

Went pair shaped after Richards was pinged HTB on our fwd 50 about 5mins into the last qtr. We were a good chance to go 36 points up...but O'Meara had it reversed due to open hand chest tap retaliation (new rule 1.3.1.5.6) Dogs get it down their end for a quick Gowers goal. Margin 24 points.

From then on with 2 mids done for the day the Dogs had a sniff and we gave a yelp.

A couple of crucial Stratton lapses also hurt.

Move on to next week.

There is no denying the umpires cheated today. CHEATED. FLAT OUT CHEATED.

Hawks were probably going to lose anyway running out of legs down two rotations and two veteran leaders, but the AFL ensured it with one sided goal gifting. Apparently the only team to push and punch in the chest was Hawthorn, yeah right. CHEATING CHEATING CHEATING umpires.

I know Roughy kicked 2 today.. but there comes a point where we should start considering if a 32 year old forward, who is lucky to kick 2 goals a game, doesn't clunk marks and is slow defending, is more beneficial to the side going forward than the next generation FF/CHF.

Correct me if I'm wrong...
You're not wrong.

But Roughead has gone through hell and come out the other side and we owe him. So we'll ride this.

There's no point blaming the umpires, giving up a 5 goal 3rd quarter time lead is both criminal and soul-destroying.

I was all prepared for this to be a really tough year and last week's win got me over-excited. This game was the necessary correction.

Always Hawthorn. We'll post some great wins this year but we won't be a contender.

We played brilliantly in the third. Not enough though.

Jack Scrimshaw ... what a great find.
Henderson... played so well

When you don’t play four quarters, you get punished.

KOLOKOTRONIS

Dogs probably only played 2 decent quarters so they get punished by winning the game? Say what you like Kkktronis it was handed to them and officiating decided the outcome.
End of.

Fun fact: Bulldogs kicked 4 goals from 3 kicks. All of them from free kick decisions. 6 of their 9 goals came directly from umpires.

Saltiness aside, two on the bench with young players and an underdone Scully was going to be tough. Bulldogs are a hard running side and we started to feel the pinch. You don't give up a 30 point lead, all bullshit aside, without playing terrible. Our third quarter run and hunger was completely diminished. In addition, we had far too many passengers. Nash and Morrison gave us nothing, Scully felt the pinch, Stratton got beaten multiple times in the last. It genuinely felt 18 vs 22 at times, and it was only Henderson's massive quarter in the third that got us going. 18 vs 25 in the last ****ing quarter.

There were some positives. O'Meara - jumper punch aside - was very good, and Worps was handy. Scrimshaw looked great, Scully had some nice plays and Henderson showed he can have a big impact.

Better this happen earlier in the season. Get the jumper punches out of the way. Know that you're going to get screwed if you're not first to the ball. .I bet you guys, 100%, there were no small chest taps paid in other games - certainly not when the game is on the line. While I want to rage at the umpires, the AFL need to get some consistency. Every single game is being interpreted differently because each umpire seems to have a different grasp of the rules. It's grossly incompetent for what is considered our national game.

Whilst our capitulation in the last was concerning and there are serious questions to be asked of certain players, the umpiring and their interpretation of the new rules has me questioning my love of this game. It’s being sanitised to the point of unwatchable blandness.
