This is what a lot of non religious people don't get. It's not a case of picking and choosing who lives the better life etc. At the end of the day we are all sinners which is sort of what Izzy was referring to as he listed a lot of things. Even people who cure cancer etc have secretes behind closed doors and if you continue to ignore this it just shows why they get away with things like that doctor in the US who was touching kids.

The other thing I find strange is. If people thing Religion is such a crazy idea and all a load of rubbish, then why do they get so angry and people saying things about hell etc. Surely if you don't believe in such things evil and hell etc would have absolutely no meaning, therefor the comment doesn't have any bearing.

At the end of the day the PC brigade makes the call and the public blindly follow without any thought on the matter and that's all there is about it.

I waved the incense, jangled the bells, washed the priest's hands and poured the priest his wine. Fortunately, our priests were too old and feeble to do anything inappropriate. So I've been there, done that. Why make the assumption that a non-believer doesn't "get" the concept of original sin? It's a little presumptuous.

But it doesn't change much, as the God of the Bible is a deeply contradictory creature in so many ways. Even if he were real, I can't see much of a reason to worship him, other than to avoid hell and get to heaven. And suddenly we're back to this loving God who sends good people to burn forever. No, not perfect people, I'll grant you that. But he's still watching Satan build campfires with the souls of dear old grannies who were a bit naughty once or twice and forgot to say sorry before they croaked.

Or to put it another way, Christians are welcome to do as they please, but they aren't the only ones who read the Bible.

Your question about all this outrage is better asked of people who are actually upset about this hell stuff. I'm not. Izzy and Gary can say what they like as far as I'm concerned. I find it very interesting though, as belief systems and human behaviour generally are fascinating. Plus the outrage is amazing to watch.

Actually this is a huge event - a player like Ablett flushing his "reputation" down the toilet on the back of being exposed as a fraud.

It's not a huge event. If you pick up a newspaper and read something other than the comics and sport section, you will realise this too.

Oh its a very huge event, when you got "Robbo" pleading for fans to not boo someone!

Ablett got caught red handed doing the wrong thing, his false apology will not fix the situation :)

All Ablett is guilty of is triggering people like you, who feel the need to get outraged over social media posts. Getting all self righteous about right and wrong.

Triggered.

If all sins are equally bad, why do fundie Christians pick on homosexuality so much?

The only people who got angry were all the lefties who get triggered everytime they hear a homosexual person is banned from something, even if its an imaginary place like heaven. Its not a rational thought process.

Fully grown adults with imaginary friends....
If I had an imaginary friend called Peter who I claimed created the earth and decides what happens to homosexuals after they die amongst other nonsense, I would likely be diagnosed with a mental health condition.
Change the name of my imaginary friend to God and all of a sudden it’s totally rational.

I have (perhaps foolishly) read this thread from the start and heaven knows I'm miserable now. It has been a dark and sorrowful journey through the unrelenting mire of a range of unswayed, unshiftable thoughts and opinions on both sides of the ledger. The "pageantry of outrage" (c. Brett Easton Ellis) is alive and well and shows no sign of abating.

GAJ does not seem to be a hateful person. Careless yes, hateful .... no. I thought his explanation for liking then unliking the tweet was completely plausible and, all personal biases and team rivalries aside, I think most other people would too.

Religion is daft, ALL religions are daft but why would anyone seriously suggest that Christians be booed in the street. Some Bay 13 regulars that have crawled onto this thread have suggested as such. Should Muslims also be booed for their arguably more homophobic views? Of course not. Should we all be outraged at another person's strongly-held beliefs and boo them accordingly if we don't agree with them .... hell no.

Folou didnt pick on it. It was one of 9 sins he listed. He didnt underline it or put it in bold print. It was given no more weight then the others.
Whenever fundie Christians pick on sin, they invariably include homosexuality in their list, no? There are hundreds, if not thousands of sins, yet they're always thinking of man on man action. I find it weird.

Why not women who wear bikinis? Cos, you know, those evil women are tempting us men? ;)

Ahh...the self-labelled 'flexible middle-ground' who never seem more flexible than the rest of us.

Is it that you want us to be flexible enough to accept your view, the only true perspective?

Not going to bother going back and forth with you on if bad people are people too etc. You are just nitpicking, you know what the AFL means when they say all should be included. If you don't then that's not my problem.

As for Ablett - if you only agree with part of a persons comment why would you then like the entire post without commenting on it thereafter. He left a like, meaning he agreed with it, and he didn't feel the need to explain it so it's pretty self evident what happened and how he was thinking at the time. Put two and two together. It's not rocket science. He is an extremely religious guy and he agreed with a post about a bunch of archaic stuff whilst also not feeling a need to explain which parts of the post he agreed with. I think it's obvious enough. He got caught in the act, and retracted it but the damage clearly had been done already.

People aren't stupid mate. There's a reason he was booed every time he touched the ball on Monday. Not just from Hawthorn fans either. Can't just be a select few on here who have it backwards. People can read between the lines, thank goodness.

So on this actual forum you’ve never liked someone’s comment even if you don’t agree with ever bit of it?

I didn't say all misunderstood but the comment i replied to showed that there are still some out there who don't.

As stated by many people, it doesn't matter whether you believe in such and such or your reasoning's behind it (there have been people calling religion rubbish since time began) at the end of the day Gaz and other religious people could be right so they are allowed their view point.

You are correct, the people like yourself who aren't triggered by what he said have no problem with it but like I asked to all the others, why have such a problem to it if you don't believe it? it's almost like at the end of the day there is a possibility that they do think it's a half truth and it's more of a rebellion as usual rather than a complete disagreement with it. It's a natural reaction for people not to like what they don't want to hear.

Homosexuality gets the barest of mentions in the bible but a whole lot of their attention. Anything they don’t feel like abiding by (slavery, suicide, shellfish etc) gets ‘reinterpreted’ but not this. That’s why I won’t give it a pass on religious beliefs, it’s just good old fashioned bigotry.

I don't believe that black people are inferior to white people, but it pisses me off when racists say it.

Btw I'm white.

I dunno man. People get upset at all sorts of inane stuff these days. So many people just want to pick a side and start a fight to the death.

That's a stretch. I'm willing to give GAJ a pass for removing the like, which is likely as good as it gets from a fundamentalist Christian.

Which parts of Folau's tweet do you think Ablett disagreed with?

I’m not suggesting he disagreed with any of them. I have no idea.

I’m saying that using the argument that an online ‘like’ means you agree with everything the likes post says, is pretty much contradicted in this actual forum 500 times a day
