Not that excited about getting Martin. Think he's a fairly mediocre mid and I bet we would have to overpay. Would be handy but the idea of getting a 25 year old midfielder who has never averaged over 20 disposals in a season is really not all that exciting. Get the feeling Martin might be a plan B.

Papley should be our number one target, offer our first round pick and try and get something back in return. Say Papley and their second rounder for our first and third round pick.

Coniglio we should be serious about, if Hawthorn are a chance then we should be as well. We might have to prove that we are the real deal but we have the opportunity to do that and so far we have been doing that.

If we land Papley and Coniglio that would be huge, we should be expecting big big things next season if that were to happen. The improvement of the young players and the forecast of what they should be capable of doing next season, if our older players hang in anything can happen next year. If you bring in Papley, Coniglio and Docherty. Three elite players, one in each part of the ground with what we have coming through would be enormous.

Reckon Hill might be worth a shot, elite wing and potential half back could be really good for where we are at. Haven't quite got top talent there, just potentially.

Baker would be good, I reckon he's a fair player and would fit well into our team.

We could quite easily do what Brisbane have done and rocket into the top 4 if things go our way next season.

Ellis is a no for me.

Imo I'd much rather put games into O'Brien Walsh Cuningham Williamson Setterfield Gibbons up on the wings than B.Ellis who's basically a winger E.Curnow and Thomas can play there as well, we don't need him he's a waste of money that can be put to better use on someone who has better upside...

I'd be happy with Papley, Coniglio and a good back up ruck. Philips showed what he is capable of if he can stay injury free as with Krooz. TDK isn't quite ready. Build up Setters a bit more and in 2 years he could be part big mid bull trio with Crippa and Stocker....bloody outrageously dangerous. Sam Walsh, deary me, watch him go from grunt and brilliance to game changer in the ilk of C. Judd. Mark my words.
I am less concerned about more "nifty" HF as we have Cunners, Gibbo, Kennedy, JSOS, potentially Deluca, Lang who are all capable as they are starting to show with the goal spreads. SPS is showing signs of being a really dynamic HB playmaker along with Doc, Willo and Simmo, Daisy.

Starting to feel the same way about Martin tbh...

Martin won't come cheap. Those guys you mentioned can probably deliver just as much as Martin and we already have them and on lower $$$...plus Papley makes the need for Martin redundant.

Not doubting your source but Jon Anderson in the HS sunday said we are in the box seat for him and Papley.

Probably a lot of mis information going around at the moment

Might be a Shiel-like situation...appears Shiel himself didn't make up his mind until late in the piece and until then gave the impression to each club they were a big chance.

Who said anything about trading anyone? But for arguments sake..

Kreuzer When he's on the field everyone knows we're better. Cuningham does not have that impact.
Charlie - Proven superstar, was being discussed as potentially the best player in the comp pre-season. Cuningham was not and has never been.
Docherty - All Australian and captain. Cuningham is not either of those or even close.

Cuningham has no proven impact on the team, only potential impact. I think we can all see he does add something different and something we lack, but he's never been a part of the team long enough to truly have any impact on the team. Cuningham does not belong in the same conversation with anyone you listed, it's an insult to them.

Again, the mental gymnastics required to think Cuningham has that level of impact is immense. The idea of what Cuningham can add to the team vs what he's actually added so far are universes apart.

100% this. Willo is in exactly the same boat. Yet so many apparently have them both in their best 22's curiously. Even Docherty and his worth to us after a double ACL can be questioned right now but I fear people wont take kindly too him being questioned.

The question about Cuningham's value as a player was in relation to whether he should be traded or not. I was arguing against trading him. This year from 8 games he's averaged 17 possessions, 1 goal and 1 goal assist per game. That's not bad for a medium forward.

Someone even suggested if we traded Cuningham for Papley we'd need to include an attractive pick. For the record Papley in 2019 averages 14 possessions, 1.4 goals and 0.7 goal assists each game and doesn't spend time running through the midfield like Cunningham.

So for me it's a question of do you think that Russell can get Cuningham's body conditioned for AFL and I reckon you'd have to back him in based on his record.

Papley averages 1.6 goals, 0.8 goal assists and 16 disposals and absolutely does spend time running through the midfield for Sydney. At this point you absolutely trade Cuningham plus whatever for Papley. Only one of them gets on the field consistently.

I think most people would accept that Doc might never get back to what he was and is probably one knee injury away from him being put firmly in the bonus if he gets back bag.
Williamson for me looked the most impressive out of all the kids we have brought in outside of Weitering, Curnow and Walsh (McKay later on) but he is probably already in that bonus if he makes it basket. Literally dozens of kids have came and gone in the AFL land having shown the same or more ability than him. We should be looking for a defender in this draft imo.

Let me just say that it's not always about a player simply making up their mind.
There are clubs on both sides of the equation that can have a good say into how things turn out.

Shiel (his management) would be silly nominating a club early on without a very good understanding that the deal could be done.
The CFC could have loved Shiel so much that they could have released the 2018 first and things may have been quite different, but as much as Shiel may have wanted to end up at Carlton, the reality may have been shaky.

Anyway, that's old news and right now, no on e would be complaining for having Walsh and for the way the whole trade/draft situation panned out.

Cuningham + 3rd round pick? Okay.

Anything more is a bad trade.

Don't sell low on your assets. Be patient, comrade.

Stats were updated. You drive a hard bargain.

I see him as around the early second round position, he's body of work hasn't been consistent enough for a first rounder which no doubt GCS will be wanting or asking for, his OOC so that could balance the ledger back into more of his right value price..
