If Cas is on the move I wish him all the luck.

If Charlie, McGovern and Harry are fit.

Jones, Marchbank and Weitering are fit.

Where does Cas play? Time isn't on his side he has been very loyal to us and if an opportunity arises I can't say I wouldn't take it.

All of our players staying with us until they retire won't happen. We have to be prepared to give up a few over the course
Agree with your logic but there were very few games this year when all six were available.

I'm no list manager but I would offer him 2 with clauses that would trigger a third that meant he would have to be playing good footy in 2021 to get an extension in 2022.

I know I’m definitely in the minority here but I think Casboult leaving on a decent contract would not necessarily be a bad thing for the club. Don’t get me wrong he has been an extremely loyal servant over the years and we should thank him for his contribution but AFL footy is a tough business.

Reasons:
-Buy low sell high. He is in the best form of his career right now. Probably would have been delisted last year if he didn’t have another year on his contract.
-We get a decent compo draft pick (probably 3rd roundish) in a draft we have already traded out of heavily.
-Saves us some salary on the books so that we can either target some more gun players or invest in keeping our up and coming guns. If you look at how the best clubs are run (hawks/cats/tigers) they push out their depth players to underperforming clubs and replace them with the next lot of draftees.
-He is coming towards the end of his career age-wise. How much better will he get? He’s playing well right now but IMO he may not be best 22 if we have a fully fit forwardline. Even if he is best 22 now, he would probably get pushed out shortly once our youngsters come on further.
-We are very well covered for KPFs
-A nice pay rise and extra security for Levi and his young family

In saying all that, I would be happy if he stayed. Hope for more great performances in the next four games to force our hand and make my above thoughts sound ridiculous. Either way I have full faith in SOS and the team to make the right call!

That's just it, isn't it? How often are all those guys fit to play at the same time? I'd say very seldom.
Levi is durable, he doesn't seem to miss too many games through injury, whereas you can pretty much guarantee that each of those others will miss patches of games from time to time.

Average wage is $380,000 so you wouldn't be rushing to sign for $350,000
That’s not a lot of money for a professional sportsman let alone for someone who is also playing well. A big tall player who is durable and has never had any off field issues. Why wouldn’t we try and get his signature by offering him a fair contract $ and years.

I love Levi and am so happy he’s finally getting some appreciation. He’s been unfairly maligned for years imo and been a scapegoat.

He needs to do what is best for his family and if he can get a 3 year deal on good money (where he will be playing every week) which we aren’t willing to offer he should take it.

He’s been an excellent clubman for so many years.

I would say he would be right up there in our B&F.

We will miss Levi if he goes. It’s not just his flexibility to play anywhere. His biggest asset to the team is his contested marking and being the ‘get out’ kick.

He’d be up there for best 2nd ruck/KPP in the league

It's probably the correct call, but Kade Simpson retiring will destroy my soul

For mine, Simmo stays as long as he wants. If he thinks there is another year in him, then there is. How many times has he saved us by stepping up for a goal at crucial moments, or saving a goal at the other end?

Yep spot on. Not to mention he's still playing great footy and seems pivotal to us rising back up the ladder while Doc gets his body right. Forget his age. He's still a valuable contributor week in, week out.

P.S: i might be bias because i love the bloke.

Is there no room for romance in football anymore? Levi stays FFS. He is part of our story now. I want to see him kick one after the siren for a win. How great would that be.

He loves the club. I think he stays.

I'm leaning towards no, I just think Essendon were probably more impressive in other ways and maybe there were other factors like salary. Essendon probably presented some pretty impressive people and facilities at the time and were way ahead on the ladder so fair enough there when we had only won two games. Teague has the opportunity to take what he as done a whole lot further in the last month of the season and take it up to some of the premier sides. Richmond, Geelong and West Coast. Doesn't get much better than that. Massive challenge, massive opportunity. If we do well against those sides we're going to become a super super attractive club for alcomers and it would be next to impossible to appoint Teague although it may push someone like Clarkson to chase us which would make things interesting.
I think your really underrating Teague here as a magnet for attracting top players from other teams or did you forget to put the not after impossible. Our players are clearly very fond of him and I've read that Gov and Josh Jenkins(small sample,I know) rate him as the most impressive person they've met in their football career. We don't need Clarkson to deliver us class players.

We might be biased but we are still right. :D :p :innocent:
Long live Simmo!

More than this, as we realise our own talent, do we need to be begging for Rabbits and other critters who are uppity about preferring old dinosaur coaches? If those woodland creatures have no eyes or ears then perhaps they won't make their way to the heavenly blue palace, but rather find themselves in a rather unpleasant brown and yellow stew?

Or a morbid acceptance that a completely unproven rumour is a fact?
Is people discussing the rumour an acceptance that it's fact?

You can discuss how it would work as though it's real while still understanding that it's not real. Discussing hypotheticals is basically 90% of the forum, if you want to stop that you'll just be left with game day threads.

If we move on some rucks then Levi stays, that can be his position behind Kreuzer which allows TDK to continue to develop in the 2’s until his form warrants games.

It’s hard though to pay someone 400k + to essentially be backup

He’s been more than a back up anything this year, he’s been brilliant for us lately.

Most of your post I'd be inclined to agree with, but we've been saying this all the way through his career and he's gotten better every single season he has played. And he's 28 (Edit:29 and four months, checked it this time), not 32.

His apparent dotage is more a meme than reality.

All of you wanting to trade levi just remember, without him we would not be in the position we are now. In an injury free world cas would still get a game because there are others that aren't up to his "career best". Why would you nurture, develop and invest resources into a player that is finally producing an elite level of football , only to turn around and trade him. Madness.

If Martin is mediocre then why has SOS been chasing him for two seasons now............he is streets ahead of Baker talent wise and is a good size for an inside or outside mid........I think he is a bit like SPS in that he does not get big numbers but if you make him work his talent will rise to the surface. I agree that Papley is the number one need for us though, so hopefully SOS can swing the deal........of course it is trickier with him still having one year to run on his contract........go the homesick ploy SOS, even if it`s really his girlfriend who wants back to VIC.
Martin is by no way mediocre, he's a very skilled player who can have a big impact on games when he is on, it's more he's overall consistency that is questioned, so that's the ongoing debate for everyone on what he's worth in their eyes... personally on his body of work i think his worth somewhere around an early second round pick...
Tom Papley #12-#15 and Jack Martin #21-#24 would be around what I'd trade for them...

He's been a massive reason this season for us not just winning but being far more competitive and structured outfit particularly since Teague taking over, he's played some massive rolls in all positions for us and with out him we probably wouldn't have got over the line in some of those games...

Massive respect for Levi who is having a great year.

He has been teetering on the edge for a few years now but things have finally clicked, and he certainly deserves another contract.

But we have to be practical here and if there’s a 3 year offer on the table elsewhere, he’d be silly not to take it, and we’d be silly to match it.

He’ll be 30 before a ball is bounced next year so I’d offer a 1 year deal, with triggers for a second.

If he wants to stick around then that’s great, but if he wants to take the bigger offer, that’s fine also. He has to do what’s best for him and his family.

And if it results in us getting a decent compensation pick so be it.

Typo, meant to say next to impossible not to appoint Teague.

I would be really disappointed with Casboult if he decided to leave now.
We have stuck with him all these years, hope he shows a bit of loyalty.

Bloke owes us nothing - we've shopped him round hoping to get a good deal for years, and only kept him on because nobody wanted him and he was a big body we could throw around while we developed some talent behind him.

He's playing good footy at the moment, and deserves a solid contract. If he gets some good offers elsewhere, more power to him, He faces the very real prospect of playing VFL for us next year behind Kreuzer/McKay/Curnow/McGovern/Weitering/Jones/Marchbank - sure, he maybe gets some games as injury cover, but I could certainly see Melbourne, North, Sydney, Gold Coast, St Kilda, WB, Essendon, Collingwood and Hawthorn all having some interest in a ready-made key forward/key defender/ruck option in very good form, and he should take the best deal he can get.

Love the big lug for what he's done, hope he stays on and gets a flag with the Blues, but the bloke has a young family and needs to consider where he'll be able to make the most of his time left in football.
