Can we not just find topics to argue with each other about?

FFS we are now bickering about the way people speak.....

Lighten up people and stop looking to post with so much negativity directed at each other , life is to short for that crap especially on our own board.

Yep.
Even Bolton, whilst at times he spoke in riddles, was a more eloquent orator than Teague currently is.

But, as we’re seeing - having that skill doesn’t always ensure results.
I don’t think many will agree with that comparative assessment of the speaking skills of Bolton and Teague. Teague is clearly intelligent. He speaks clearly and he rarely deflects when answering a question.

a fit side is an aberration and probably worth a few spots on the ladder I'm thinking..........
Insert - Jones / Marchbank / Charlie / Doc / Cunningham and Weiters into yesterdays team and we win by 8+ goals.

Cannot wait until we have a best 22 available for selection and we will be mauling teams when it happens. Add another speculative recruit by the name of Cogniglio and who knows what could happen! ;)

Uh, are you serious?

Bolton was fine, but Teague is exceptional. Concise, measured and very emotionally intelligent. His oratory skills are clearly superior to Bolton’s.

Have to agree. In public at least Bolton had a few nice cliches and was seen to enjoy a bit of ‘theatre’ but doesn’t strike me as being as deep a thinker as Teague.

Paradoxically I think one of Teagues strengths seems to be his ability to keep his message simple. I was listening to an interview on SEN with Kevin Muscat and his belief as a coach was having a simple game plan as it has more chance of being carried out successfully.

This is true...if he's telling GWS he's staying they have no reason not to make a public announcement.

However if he is leaving then they won't announce it until GWS' season is over.
This is completely true, while we’d all like to know now, the longer there is no news, the better.

This is a different situation, but it feels like a blend between the Lynch move and the Shiel move. More than the Kelly ‘non move’.

Coniglio would be ideal, I’ll be surprised if he stays - I believe he told the Blues he’s keen but undecided. He may have told Clarkson that too.

If he’s not coming to the Blues then plan B will involve midfield depth and growth in what we’ve got.

With Russell on board and C Curnow, D Cuningham and S Docherty returning more regularly (and a couple of trades) we’d DEFINITELY improve.

Add Cogs and we could do a Brisbane (top 4) no Cogs and we should still make the 8 in 2020.

good post but completely disagree with the bolded - a successful teacher and mentor to young people has to be a deep thinker I reckon..........

Come on now. I hate to disagree but I entirely disagree with you.
Teague is an engaging and articulate speaker. Don't make the mistake of thinking that direct and simple makes him a less valuable speaker. I would say 'outstanding' but then you'd think I was being ironic in my post, which I am not. Don't underestimate Teague.
Ps. Reading on after I posted I notice a few other posts with the same vibe. Didn't read 'em til now. :D

tipping you might be interested if someone at your same level came in and was paid 10% more than you for no other reason than to lure them there.........

Kinda depends. If I’m paid 15 times the average wage and they are going o be paid 16 times the average wage, and their presence means my potential earnings are increased down the track; I’m probably ok with it.

Every thread adorned with posts by people that know everything better than CFC.....its funny I guess

This would be a pretty boring place if we all toed the Club line on everything, don't you think? Respectful diversity of opinion is a good thing; we could certainly have done with more of it in the dying days of the Elliott administration...

I agree in principle but only when the opinions are grounded in some knowledge and not simply criticism without justification.

Just caught up with a good mate from Sydney.

Some info:

Giants keen on Darcy Cameron but his preference is Melbourne and Carlton. Been the case for a while now. Friends with crippa and has been guaranteed good opportunity

Jack Martin is so excited to possibily join us. Interest from Dogs and Saints. Upto SOS and co to pay what suns want. Levi may be the circuit breaker

Cogs still a genuine 50/50
Some think his leaving, some thinking he stays. Loves his ambassador role

Same mate who gave me the 4 for 1 deal in 2016, Jaksch and tutt also Kennedy couple of seasons back. I respect his intel

PS: Sydney traffic stinks

I just don't get this if true, waste of effort and money on a largely overcrowded position.

For years we have played Kreuzer in front of other supposedly prime ruckmen (Warnock, Hampson) even Pushing poor Sammy Jacobs out as he was 4th on the list. Now Kreuzer is relatively fit and in his prime, we have Tom The King as a very-good developing Ruck, and Phillips is more than handy as a backup ruckman. Phillips could easily hold a number 1 spot on an AFL list if given genuine Game-time to settle in (I'm thinking Geelong may want to make a play for him), and we still have Lobbe in emergencies.

Add to this Levi and Harry can Pinch hit, and it seems absurd that we would waste more List spots and $$ going after Cameron, when he's never going to get a game ahead of Kreuzer. We should be offloading a Ruckman - not getting another one.

Yet to hear a cliche from Teague. He answers every question and the answers make sense. He questions the questioner when its silly. He doesnt talk crap but straight down the line how it is. Not one excuse when we arent quite good enough. Processes the leading questions and plays a straight dead bat. What more could anyone wish?

If you use public speaking as your primary selection criteria for Pres, you end up with Eddie McGuire or Kochie.

This a business. It needs to be run like a business and should be run by people who understand that. The Pres needs to be able to run the Board, keep the administration accountable and set the clubs direction. Its not just a symbolic appointment.

Valuing flash over substance is what got us into this mess. I was unsure about him in the beginning but everything he has touched bar Bolton has turned to gold, and that’s all I care about.
Bit or revisionist history here.

Wasn't he reportedly the one who had Lethlean over to his house for the CEO role, only to be overruled by the board?

Yep - Refreshing to hear someone answer directly. I liked Bolton's pressers initially, but towards then end it was just more of the same cliche's and 'Positive Spin at all costs' answers.

Leadership is more than just speaking well. Think it is Is how charlatans get into power.

As accurate a post that I've read here. History is littered with great orators capable of wooing the masses, but with little substance in their actions.

In my eyes, a Leader is someone who gets things done, not someone who talks about getting things done.

The Pres seems to be getting things done.

Yes, and I think sometimes nuance is lost. Not least the onus on the Club to make strategic and tactical decisions every day of its existence, while those of us in the cheap seats get to pick and choose which issues we care about. Plus, of course, not many of us care to backtrack on things we might have gotten wrong!

For myself, I did not want Bolton sacked. I wanted the Club to make the 'hard' decision, to keep him and back him as the losses piled up, because I really did think we were about to turn the corner. In the end, the Club made the 'easy' decision, and seemingly the correct one... Teague navigated the corner OK.

I wonder if the Thomas decision is similar. This time, the Club has made the hard, brave call, not least because it will be difficult to ever prove it was the right call. It would have been easy to offer him another year... but it might also have been the correct thing to do.

Plus I think there is a bit of culture shock, for most of us. Silvagni has moved on about 50 players since he returned to Carlton (excluding trades, but including rookies), and Thomas would be the first departee that is clearly AFL-quality (Gowers perhaps?). Probably have to go back to Mitch Robinson to find the one before Thomas, and obviously the circumstances were quite different...

3 years in he was trotting out the same green shoots nonsense. Given his inability (stubbornness or ineptitude) to analyse and correct the course of a game many times, I wonder at his ability to analyse correctly off the field, trust then intel given including self assessment your own weaknesses and the coherently communicate a plan for improvement. If i get the chance I’ll ask when I see one or two folk over the Summer period. Not that it matters it’s all about the Teague train now.

I believe the Thomas call was an easy one if the future of the club comes before the future of the individual. As it must always.
