Is Jack Martin really that good? Must admit I haven't seen a lot of him but just looking at some of the video footage, he looks a decent player but a few rungs below superstar level. And he's already 24. Can anyone elaborate?
As others have said he's so far failed to live up to his hype.

However my reasoning for that that is like I said last page, he's not been allowed to settle in a role. He will quite literally play just about every role outside of key forward, key defender or ruck. The Suns need him down back because they need a medium or small defender who can intercept mark or play on a small forward. Then he players forward because they need his marking, goal kicking ability and ground ball gets. Then they need him on the wing for his run and class. Then they need him on the ball for his inside tackling, ball winning ability and spread. Then he needs to tag someone because they're getting on top in the game.

So he's still a bit of an unknown as to where his best position is, and what is ceiling from this point in his career is.

Worst case scenario he's an extremely versatile B grade player who can plug nearly any gap and do it to a reasonable level without any glaring issues. Best case we find him a position he can finally settle in and his game opens up from there and the fulfils his immense talent becoming the player he was always hyped to be. Either way it seems like a win/win for me.

If you need convincing that changing roles and having an unsettled position can impact a young players development just look at what happened to Weitering when he was thrown forward and back again. Imagine that, but for a whole career, and not just with 2 positions but nearly every position on the ground.

Think he's suffering from the same issue SPS was for a few months - taking too long trying to find the "best" option, and missing out on good ones in the meantime. Just seems to be holding onto the ball a little too long and putting himself under more pressure in the process.

Needs to trust his instincts more and pick up the pace, will come good soon enough.
Fish is a midfielder who is trying to adapt to other roles/positions. It will take a bit of time, but he'll be a better player for it.

They'll artificially keep them afloat as long as possible but at some point they'll have to drop them, more move them. .

I'm more concerned about GWS that the Suns tbh. The Suns get similar crowd numbers despite not being able to win, and when they were winning (relatively speaking, they still didn't make the 8) they were averaging over 16,000 to a game, about 5-6 thousand more than GWS now. If the Suns can find some on field success I think they'll be alright, they just have to get there!

But that's why I'm concerned about GWS moreso, they're winning and are perennial premiership contenders yet still only get 10,000~ to a game. What will that drop to if they aren't contenders anymore? Not good.
Has are getting about the same numbers the swans used to get but have Canberra nicely stitched up. Membership numbers are 13,115 in 2015 then 15,311 in 2016 then 20,944 in 2017 then 25,243 in 2018 then 30,109 in 2019.

They have some smart operators running the show and it's a great game day up there. They started with pretty much no fans and are laying down some serious roots. They often outdraw many NRL games up there. I think that they'll be o.k.

Hans? I assume that's suppose to be GWS?

The Suns often beat out the Titans as well in terms of attendance too fwiw, which is great in an NRL town with only 1 team.

Brotherly insight:

Would the McLachlan brothers be right or might the Lloyd brothers be right?

(and why the huge change of ❤ for ‘Llordo’?)

it may not actually be our best 22 but it‘s probably more about the highlights and the news breaking marker.

Pretty simple ....... Brad!

I get that feeling as well. More and more I've noticed he hesitates instead of taking the instinctual option I started to notice it around mid season. He's the type of guy who needs to play on instinct imo, thinking too much will cause problems (not to say he's dumb, just like you said, he'll wait for the best option and will often wait too long as a result).

I give you the one and only Tom Browne ...

Told you he is full of :poo:

To be fair these two comments are consistent. Not that I care to defend Tom Browne's 'journalisming'.

Fwiw Sam Gray is nowhere near the player Papley is. Go float that idea on the Port Board, see the reaction you get

Offers included packing his bags, driving him to the airport, completing his tax returns for the next 5 years, managing his LinkedIn until 5 years post-retirement, personally forwarding any mail addressed to Sam in SA and even visiting Sam's parents every year on mother's and father's days while he is in Vic.....

Is this a bad sign?

:p

Yeah tbf to him he's not really said anything contradictory there.

If he leaves Carlton are the favorites - I think he will stay at GWS. ~ Should he leave this is his likely landing spot. But I think he'll stay at GWS.

Seems fair enough to me.

Martin is a very good tackler for his size and is much better in the air than SPS. Martin is probably an upgrade as a defender over Thomas and SPS.

Having said that he's a better attacking player than defensive player imo, he'd be a little wasted down back. He's mostly down back from time to time with the Suns because they need medium defenders who can mark. Then he players forward because they need his marking and goal kicking ability. Then they need him on the wing for his run and class. Then they need him on the ball for his inside tackling and ball winning ability.

He's really not settled anywhere with them so it's hard to judge where he would fit in with us, he could be used anywhere. But personally I'd be disappointed if we signed him up to play him in the back line, despite the fact that he can do it well.
Yep, Martin is a weapon and they should use him to attack.

So wing/half forward then would be a good starting point.

If Doc struggles with form/confidence at least we have an option in Martin who could go back if needed.

So Clarkson has personally spoken with coniglio recently is he allowed to do this
Not if youre CFC.
Clarko gets away with blue murder as always. How is it that Patton is almost through the door aswell and the season isnt over yet and GWS are playing finals?
Of course Gilligan hasn't mentioned anything about this, why not?

Our Port recruitment success profile is fairly narrow.

That's still needing improvement imo. Too many little p*ss fart kicks although recently not as many.
Sometimes that little spot up kick to relieve the pressure will be important.

Needs to then run and create like Caleb Daniel is doing and like Yarran used to do.

The worry might be if he gets dragged back to the goalsquare for long periods.

Agree that the little piss fart kicks have been less frequent which is good.
