Just re-watched that game. Reiwoldt was sticking his studs out at any opportunity!
He injured Shep to the knee and got Barrass in the side/back hip area.
Now the rules have been modified after Softwick and Hissyfit complained..unbelievable?
No mention of the player's safety or injury.
Grrrr...seriously hope a team blows the over-inflated Tigers balloon out of the air!

*As a side note - Lyons has been sacked!!! Woohoo, good for Freo, and no longer have to look at his miserable mug on the TV!!
100% the dirty campaigner should have gotten weeks for kicking at players essentially.

It must be nice to have a direct line with the AFL to change interpretations that go against you.

We should try it with our defenders getting blocked illegally.
And Josh and Jack getting mauled in every marking contest. Just show them clips of any random game and they will see it happening.

What's the difference between jumping and putting a knee in? Would remove all high marking of that was the case.
Don’t have a view on this one way or the other, but what is the difference between using a forearm and a hand? One’s a free kick and the other isn’t, so why not apply the same concept to legs. You can fly for a mark without using a straight leg, studs up, to hold the space in front of you.

There really is no reason to fly studs up. The only time you gain advantage from it is when it is combined with a kicking action and that will still be deemed dangerous.

There is a reason they yellow or more often red card players going studs first in soccer - because it could be dangerous (and having a split second to decide if it is or not is impossible for players).

But afl will afl and make the rules up as they go.

Just wait until we've got the bunker thing with live umpire coaching, the AFL would have changed the rules on the fly between the two Reiwoldt incidences.

Its garbage - the two frees involved a push with the foot - the knee extension movement yo push was clear and there was no a jumping action in any way

Bunch of fools on the rules Committee. Studs up/0ut in any form should be a no-no. Not it's okay in some circumstances because of tradition. Get rid of it.

More like this, but in the back:

Is this seriously allowed now with the new rule change? Good luck if you're a defender .

The Karate Kid example is probably more like the Toby Greene one which is still banned from my understanding. But the same exact same action would now be legal if it's in the opponent's back though. At least that's how I heard it.

On another note, just realised that Johnny Lawrence from the same movie kind of looks like Oscar Allen.

Well the positive is, it's now open-season, for all backs to target Hissy-fit Jack, studs out, in the back, in the legs, in the side, all day long - they can hurt him, injure him, give him a real good dose of his own medicine!

Finally caught up with OTC last night and actually Roo's brought up an interesting one.
Not sure if already brought up and posted but not on this page so here,
Earlier in the year Howe got paid a free against him for the :studs up" rule and that was that. Paid a free against and the AFL signed off on it saying correct decision that's what the rule is there for.
Jack does it, twice (really 3 times), on the weekend and now it is a wrong decision and they are going to change the "interpretation" of the rule.
WTF!
Roosy was not happy and baffled by the AFL.

I still have a 20cm scar on my leg when some campaigner snap kicked me in a marking contest. Raised studs in a deliberate attempt to fend off should not be allowed. I rekcon Darling and JK should use it as a deliberate fend off considering they get scragged off the ball all the time. * the AFL and the whiny Richmond w***ers.
