The only good thing about this trade period is we are gambling our future and should know in one or two years what sort of impact this crew has had. We should able to get rid of the whole footy department and board if they **** this up. It won't take 9 years this time.

On Carlisle, as you've seen above, one of your guys thinks I'm over-valuing so it might not be too far off.

This goes out to everyone, is the general idea you would rather do 5(6) in a straight swap than 11 and Acres?

There is a school of thought that says , "the Saints want to trade Carlisle , it must mean his back is stuffed - ie..he's not worth much ".
Personally i think its more that Battle has demonstrated that he can play a similar role, and given that we only really want one person playing the rebounding chb role, one is expendable.
However , it may be that we need Battle to play forward if we trade Bruce, so it could be a "one or the other " scenario. Carlisle's back surgery along with the school of thought mentioned above have probably damaged his trade value.

Cant see bruce leaving for anything under a 1st rounder given the way the articles are worded

You are talking St Kilda. We were only going to sell off Bruce for Bing, now Bing is unlikely but we're selling Bruce anyway. We can't keep our mind on the job for 5 seconds.

Snuffaluphagus Firstly, cheers for taking the time to look over our list and have a considered view on the trades.

I don't really have a view on the Steven trade since if he nominates it'll get done and Geelong will give fair value.

For the Carlisle => Keath mooted trade, I don't think it's in our favour enough with what you've put out there. Notwithstanding Carlisle's back issues, he has a much longer body of work than Keath (and I don't get the Keath thing generally - as you say, he's had one good season and is mature age) and Carlisle is contracted. I don't why we'd do that for a player as unproven over the long term as Keath for effectively a modest pick upgrade.

If we trade Bruce and don't bring in a mature forward (or play Battle forward to support King) then I'll legit start looking for another club to support. Having a forward line of King and Membrey as the tall targets would be doing a 'Watts' to King. I'd hate it. We could play Battle forward but given how great he's been down back this year I don't know why we would.

So, the Hill trade is the spicy one. I'd rate Acres as a mid-second round, so using draft points (crappy, I know) says 11 + Acres is better than Pick 5 (roughly Pick 4 equivalent) suggesting a straight swap is better for us. Pick 5 seems like way overs though (he wants to leave) so my preferred trade there would be Pick 5 + our third for Hill and Langdon.
First of all i will say if we get Keath im very happy and if we keep Jake im not as happy , For you to say body of work for Jake is out there , his best work was 2014 and 2015 and surely if you cant see that a bloke that has only played 30 games has still got improvement in him im glad your not recruiting . Here is a tip for you , Hunter has played 29 games , are you saying he hasn't got plenty of improvement in him ?

Saints are starting this trade period from behind, thanks to the future pick trading from 2018. With only Pick 5, 55 and 68, there's really not much to work with. They are going to need currency if they're going to be securing trades for any of the players they've been linked with. Pick 5 will get you Hill, but then you're left with nothing unless you compromise another draft hand in 2020.

The other thing is that once a player requests a trade, sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and make the trade. We did it with a contracted Marcus Adams last year, trading him for 2018 and 2019 3rd rounders. We could have held him to contract, but that could potentially have meant an unhappy player sticking around the final year of their contract, and then him leaving for a pittance the following year. Obviously the Saints won't accept just nothing for him, but if Bruce is being offered substantial $ at the Dogs, and the Saints don't at least extend his contract to match, then they could end up with an unhappy player
Just because we are starting behind does not mean we don't push for a good deal for a contracted player. The talk is coming from Saints and Dogs, Bruce is more than happy at the Saints.

Unless we get a good return for him then he'll stay. We can always trade out other players or use picks from next year's draft.

Sorry you want the purchasing department, i'm in sales, and someone put the form for Bruce in weeks ago. Your cancellation will have to wait until it processed.

Who says we're selling him?
It's called open to "expressions of interest."

The straight swap works far better, our problem is the List is horribly out of balance with 20 defenders we need more mids and good ones at that, we've got half backs playing midfield and forward roles in the VFL, guys like Dunstan and Acres get games despite injury and form because we have no depth or our depth is so bad the out of form injured are better anyway, we get rid of Acres we still need to find more mids and sure Hill is an improvement but he's not three players. We're better off keeping Blake as depth and try and trade a few HBF out, You don't need a couple do you?.

Quick question. Where did the "we are only selling Bruce if we are getting Bing" actually come from?

Mikka who says he's "involved" somehow in the club. He seems to get good info.

Thanks for the friendly discussion Ladies and Gents.

I apologise in advance and on behalf of the numpties in the trade thread who get shitty over the next couple of months.

As a fellow perennial cellar dweller I hope one of us gets a flag sometime soon, would be nice.

My last remark on the my Hill suggestion is that both sets of supporters aren’t too big a fan of that trade, so, like the pick 5 straight swap, could be closeish to the final deal.

All the best over the trade period for what is unfortunately often the highlight for both our clubs years...

If St Kilda were to split their Pick 5 with GWS for say 11 and 13, would you think Hill and Pick 24 for 11 and Acres is around the mark?

Side note re. Josh Bruce, if he leaves which looks all but certain now to WB, Toby McLean and Pick 30 would do it for me. Would probably take more than that to get it over the line, either a swap of picks or a future pick but I still think he's a serious chance to leave and would be a very smart pickup.

I think you have read it wrong.

Bruce is easily worth a pick in the 13-18 Mark depending on how a club values him in that position.

He is a KPF which are rare especially ones that are reliable that can net you 35-50 goals and that can pinch hit in the Ruck whilst doing that.

The dogs first pick is about right. They want the player, the player hasn't requested to leave and he has a contract.

Pretty simple.

In that case it's 2 first rounders for Hill then.

I reckon both clubs will be reasonable here, just my gut feel.

We can cope without Bruce.

The only way I can see it being Dogs first pick is that if this draft year is genuinely seen by the clubs as a shallow talent pool.
Then the value of that pick is reduced anyway.
