Another option is simply sending their Pick 8 to Gold Coast, along with a future pick, with Brisbane's 1st coming back. This removes the need to involve another club, and leaves Carlton with change to sort out other trades.

Although involving the Eagles does sound advantageous to everyone. Pick 8 and a future 3rd in return for 14 and 22 is heavily in Carlton's favour, but could go a long way towards satisfying Geelong given it allows West Coast to hand over a top 10 pick
Involve Eagles is disaster, double handling trade. Only Clayton do that with Weller trade, end up Eagles trades got nothing to do with Weller.

It's the reality of the trade period these days. Doesn't necessarily have to be a 3-way trade, but both Gold Coast and Carlton may end up doing deals with other clubs before any Martin trade occurs which opens up extra picks. On current draft hands, I don't see how the deal gets done. It will surely involve picks coming from other clubs

That's the reason I said ah chee trade, why involve other club when you don't need to. GC could easily trade back Brisbane first Rd pick back to them with Ah chee and get multiple second Rd and third Rd back that include GC second Rd. Currently pick 19.

Not surprise, they got the Adelaide first round pick GC want.

Future second for Martin. Not sure on next years draft but this crop doesn’t seem much chop so potentially a better pick for GC.

Pick 8 will be involved in the Papley trade should be want to come.

While I agree that a future 2nd SHOULD be enough, I highly doubt it is. Gold Coast will almost certainly push for more. Maybe a later pick upgrade

Slow down, VD - you're taking away all the hard work for the List Managers!

Is papley coming as well? Do the Blues want both papley and martin? Suprised he didnt come to us with what we offered both on and off field

Papley likely dependent on Swans getting JD from Essendon, which looks probable if you believe the chatter. Is our #1 target.

After our last few Future pick deals, I would hate to do this, we have hopefully learnt our lesson that there is too much risk involved for us. Especially if you lads some how rise up the ladder like the Lions did this year, we could end up with pick 26 or something next year which I don't think accurately reflects his value IMO. I'm sure a deal will get done though regardless through other picks and deals through out the trade period.

Yea I think there is too much noise with JD to Sydney for it to just be a rumour. Interesting so IF you landed Papley would you still want Martin as well? Surely you can leave him for us :p

Assuming Papley doesn't come this is probably the only one that is actually worth anything. Butler's no longer in Richmond's Best 22 and Betts is 33 and past his best.

Dont forget Sauce from Adelaide as well! And they'll be sniffing around guys like Cutler and Lewis from us.

Very different players. Papley likely a mostly small forward with pinch hits in the middle. Martin can play anywhere between the arcs, HBF, HFF or on the outside. You guys look like going all in on Josh Bruce - the best contested mark in the game, who would straighten you up heaps.

Great news for us if talk of the $$$ at WB being a fair bit higher.

Lots of options as I said.

Carlton will wheel and deal and go for the best one for them obviously.

That may well be dealing just with GC but maybe a deal with a club like the Eagles gets them something better.

Have a feeling this year we will see pick swaps flying in all different directions. Melbourne reported to be keen to trade down pick 4 for multiple picks. Same with the Crows and Saints.

Papely under contract which is an issue but if the Swans make a play for Daniher they may look at it.

Butler has met with Carlton and would come much cheaper than Papely. Blues could land Martin and Butler and still have change from pick 8.

Yep agree but definitely no first rounder involved.

The guy is OOC, asked for a trade 2 years in a row, and was dropped for the last month of the season.

GC can't expect much more than a early 2nd rounder and a late pick upgrade imo.

Reckon we could get Papley, Butler and Eddie and be fine. Small forward is our biggest list hole and 2/3 of these guys would get a game in Round 1. If Butler knuckles down, he could get games early, too and Eddie would likely only play for a year then transition to coaching/an off-field role.

Yes we want both, both would be best 22 and fit in the same team.

Also surprised given you offered more money and already playing finals...must have been other factors like relationships with some of our players/staff.

I get the romance of Eddie Betts back to the Blues but I also agree with the stance SOS currently has. Betts is 33 in November and seems to have dropped away this season.

If I was the Blues I'd look at two of Papely, Butler and J Martin. Younger players who in a year or two will still be at their peak age wise to have a serious crack in finals. In two years time Eddie will be 35 and retired. Why waste the time, effort and cap space?

Now Gold Coast makes total sense for Betts simply as a playing mentor and a marketing opportunity.

Yea I thought we had him tbh. Ah well disappointing I think the blues if they get another mid in will be good next year. As soon as Curnow and Murphy went back in the team won. Blues need to replace those two to keep the momentum up the ladder but the building blocks of an excellent team are definitely there

Much more than romance with Eddie. He's been supposedly unhappy for 2 years and still kicked 66 goals. He'd be happier and freer under Teague and Carlton, and even if he kicked 29 goals, he'd be our leading goal kicker. If things went to play, he'd be capable of 40-50 - a win regardless of age.

Not to mention how valuable his guidance and mentoring would be to our younger players. We've lacked a forward half leader like Hodge has been down back for Brisbane (coincidentally 33 when he went to the Lions) and the narrative has shifted slightly since its been clear our 'draft quota' has been met.

Betts could be the magic potion we need to catapault out of this neverending rebuild stage. Or he could at the very least bring a smile to a lot of fans (bringing in another 5-10K members in the process).

They will trade pick 8 for two other picks, just you watch.

Eagles with a late 1st, pick 22 and 32 plus 2020 picks would look at some form of pick swap deal to get pick 8 to the Cats for Kelly is just one option.

There are others and with the Blues chasing multiple trades later picks are needed.

SOS was seen sitting down chatting with JMc from GWS so they might be interested in moving up and grabbing the 8.
