Is there anything more 21st century Carlton than having Betts for his entire career, except for the few years where he was one of the best small forwards to play the game?

All for this move though, time to move on. Stengle should be able to get close too, or match 2019 Betts output (it's pretty diminished from Eddies glory days) factoring out the Gold Coast matches where Eddie put the skis on.
Redbacks got rid of Cosgrove for a few years. Took a stand against his poor fitness. With Tassie he made the most runs in the competition and won two Sheffield Shields. Meanwhile the Redbacks performed poorly.

Then when he was older and just as fat we brought him back.

Not sure if you guys have watched much of Frampton or if it’s just a lot of group think going on.
Frampton is actually a strong mark but did drop some marks he’d normally take in the GF.
He still took 7 marks and had 4 shots on goal in limited supply. If he took the marks he normally would he would have taken over 10 marks as a forward.
He is a cult hero at Port and a lot of fans want him in the side instead of Dixon.

Without being a big fish, I actually think he’s a smart trade target and specific to our needs like Stengle.
As long as the cost is reasonable I’m on board.
He is more of a fwd/ruck but can also play as a ready made ruck if O’Brien gets injured.
Realistically he would be competing with Himmelberg and at this stage would be slightly ahead.
In our dream future forward line we’d have Fogarty and Lukosious who are both leading forwards where as Frampton actually plays as a strong, tough, pack crashing forward who compliments them perfectly.
He is pretty tough and aggressive too so along with Fogarty would add some grunt to our forward line.

Strachan probably won’t quite be ready next year for afl footy, so if O’Brien gets injured Frampton would be our next in line ruckman.

Remember we will be losing Jacobs, Hunter and JJ (probably).
We’d have the least ruck stocks in the afl.

Coaches my 10yo now, top bloke.

He’s not tough - he’s a thug and a coward.

1 game in 5 years. Would rather rookie next doors cat

Frampton kicked 6 goals against Adelaide in the afl this year too.
Good competition for Himmelberg imo. He’s currently 22 yrs old. It’s not like we’re after a 28 yr old state league player.
Yeah and same game he sniped Pat Wilson with a disgusting off the ball hit that took him out of the game.

Should be great for team harmony

He is no different to Fogarty. You love them when they’re playing for you. Agree to disagree but I think we need to strengthen that fwd/ruck position. If we lose Jenkins as expected, all we have is Himmelberg who isn’t proven yet. Whilst showing promise if EH gets injured or is badly out of form, who is next? He can also be depth as a pure ruckman if required too.
I’m very happy for Frampton and Himmelberg to fight it out.
Smart cheap target imo.

I was keen on Stengle as a smart cheap trade target last year too and I remember reading the majority on here saying “wow how exciting, he’s too small, too slow...”.

Again not a big fish, but he met a need and was a cheap smart trade targeted to needs. Hit the draft with the other picks.

I desperately wanted Francis and B.Williams as well but that didn’t work out unfortunately.

The big thing is you don't exactly need your pack crashing forward to be good at football, just be willing to crash packs and cause havoc.

It's a tad non-statistic of a niche at times, however, I'd wager it's something that'd have immense value around a good group of smalls. After all, a neutral ball is better than an opposition mark.

Sounds a player Hawthorn would like.

Give me someone willing to snipe good players off the ball any day. There is value in that as long as they've got some subtlety to it, as you certainly don't win premierships by being nice and clean.

I'd take 2 or 3 of these guys on our list over the choir boy mentality we've had going for the past decade.

Yup. Especially role players, I'm always a fan of someone willing to strut the line, and occasionally take a week off from the tribunal to increase our chances of winning a game.

We've got a couple kids who like to do it nowadays in Fogarty, and ROB who seem to genuinely like hurting people, however, being at Adelaide seems to beat that out of people.

Im happy to pick him up cheap, he averaged a touch over 3 contested marks in the sanfl, something we are severely lacking up forward, Himmelberg averaged less than one per game.

Exactly right. We only have to look at how much crap JJ has copped over here throughout his career.
