Way to make it harder to get Martin, AFL. What a f*** crock that is. Pick 1, Pick 11 and 2 start of 2nd round picks + getting academy kids for nothing + extended access to zones. The draft is not the way to fix that club and the AFL publicly stated that last year with the mature aged BS.

Clear now that it was just a transparent and biased attack on the Blues - be that by their hand or for fear of being attacked by other clubs. In any case, this is some bulllls**t.

A 2nd round means little now to them given they have a warchest of picks for nothing.

To be clear, I'm not anti-Suns. Their issues are deeper than talent and picks won't fix it. The pre-listing thing I get. Maybe an early-second token pick like Lions got... sure. They need help or will fold to Tassie (which I think they should just bit the bullet and do, tbh). It's not as simple as better management as they're under more pressure to retain and it's an impossible market up here for a sporting franchise.

It's the AFL I'm losing all respect and faith in. They are fast cementing themselves as the worst-ran, least independent and most makey-uppey sports competition in the world.

The draft is actually the best way to fix that club. The best players simply wont go there at the moment. They need to get Rowell and Anderson and sign them up long term immediately, same with King and Lukosius, along with all their young players they have already signed to long term contracts. That's their base point. That, coupled with the Ellis's and Greenwood's etc to lead them around. That's how they are going to be fixed.

You remember what happened when we were losing games a few years ago? When Robbo, Garlett and co got on the sauce then lied to the club? That's what can happen when your club isn't in the position to risk it on volatile players. Those who do that at successful clubs aren't the type you want. They have greater likelihood of doing that on a team that isn't going anywhere but Mad Monday come September.

I would rightfully (in my opinion) suggest that SOS took calculated risks in Pickett and Garlett. Neither paid off.

Sure, you need to delist or trade out a minimum of three players a year. You're right, I've been more than happy to say that in the past. However, until we're a near lock to be a finals side I'd prefer to be able to delist or dump out the three least talented players on the side rather than best 22 caliber players due to bulls**t like Robbo and Garlett.

Pickett was one of those really unlucky things that happen to player and Club - rated him higher than any other GWS recruit except for Plowman and now Setterfield. Garlett I suspect was actually mismanaged by Bolton the Club - asked to play with a bung shoulder all year in his first year - confidence totally shot.

Lets agree to disagree on Robinson and Garlett and Waite and Betts and Yarran ok? I do not for one second buy into " they had to go because they lied to the Club" BS narrative - never did and never will.

Robinson and Garlett were out on the pizz celebrating Garletts birthday - big ****ing deal. they delivered where it mattered - on field.

Wow, I love the club as much as anyone, but this is rose coloured glasses personified IMO.

We’ve gotten JSOS, and maybe DeKoning from national draft picks, and the rookies are misses and nothing of AFL quality yet.

Quick scan of the rookie drafts the last few years, have to get real lucky to get players from it and those who can play may not fit a young developing club like ours. Rookie draft is not what it use to be since GWS/GCS. A few diamond in the rough types here and there and they mostly seem a bit volatile.

Dow is two years away. Minimum. He’s a nervous Nellie. Stocker, on the other hand, is what you want in a hard nosed midfielder. He’s not nervous. He’s Greg Williams like arrogant.
Dow may be very good trade bait at the end of 2020!

The question to ask is whether or not deluca wouldve been selected had Teague already taken over. Pickett at the time was injured and we may have wanted a mature body to play straight away.

I reckon we selected DeLuca with the intention that he play in the center. Then we started playing Curnow, Cripps, Murphy, Walsh etc there and they did a pretty good job and we had some spots forward and just left it at that.

I think also we might have found that he was not up to AFL level fitness wise. He didn't look to have a great running capacity. There was no way to put him through any fitness test at the time as well as he was injured when we recruited him.

All this being said he wasn't bad. 4 goals in 6 games in a bottom side and averaged around 13 disposals is probably around average for small forwards across the board. He was far from terrible and with a big preseason who knows, might push into the midfield next season or at least provide a good option off the bench or a strong VFL player.

Would not be writing him off at all.

We're getting too excited over Pickett. Probably had a line through him because maybe we're not ready to take players with a history. He's also only played one game.

The package isn't gonna do much anyway.

They gain Rowell and Anderson but likely lose Luko and King by 2021.

The town is a black hole for sporting clubs.

That's why I said the other day that if he hasn't re-signed by trade deadline, send him to Adelaide for Crouch and their 1st. The Suns have to force Lukosius to make a decision IMO. Re-sign long term or we trade you now.
