I think it's a pejorative for someone on benefits. Didn't see the original context though. In a bygone era it was also shorthand for benzedrine pills.

I doubt it myself, reckon the players have either been fed fibs or are assuming that what’s exceedingly obvious to all will actually happen. My money is on it not. There is no way that Rob Chapman would have Campo or Burto moved on unless a significant portion of their current wage is assured at their next gig. And both are cloaked in the smell of failure.

Hope these coaches aren’t pulling out of the race because they’ve been told Campo and co are staying put. Smart move to withdraw if you can see you are going to be on a hiding to nothing.

Or maybe Hawthorn extended his contract now as a courtesy, so if he does get knocked back it doesn't look like a consolation prize announcing it afterwards, and like every assistant contract in the league it has an immediate walk clause for a senior role anyway.
