how much upside does warpie have?

doesnt strike me as having as much ceiling as a rayner or blakley
Based on what? What is limiting Worpel's ceiling? Can't for the life of me figure out what will stop him from having the ability to be an elite inside mid in the AFL.

2006 you had young Franklin, Lewis, Roughead + Hodge, Mitchell entering prime etc.

not so much now

Mitchell won bnf in front of hodge and sewell. franklins first placing was 2008 roughy 2013 and lewis 2014, when franklin left.
Was discussing the bnf and worpels apparent ‘ceiling’ exactly the commentary on sam mitchell back then ( even a couple of years ago by the girfriend glasser)

If your argument is mitch had hodge and lewis alongside him. But worps will have tom mitchell, omeara among others like shiels and wingard alongside him.

but feel free to move on to areas where your arguments are not toasted

One of these blokes is the AFL’s most courageous [emoji23]

The other is Worpel

Also love the tackle and ball strip on ablett this year.

Oh and I also remember him ragdolling a Richmond tackler when we play them this year. Was funny to watch.

Lol, people who think Worps hasnt got a high Ceiling.

I'm sure they thought the same of a young Lenny Hayes.
To people down here it is no surprise how good Worpel has gone.... He is a highly competitive person who is a natural leader, he captained the Falcons to the U18 premiership before he was drafted. How he got through to where he did remains a mystery, he will just continue to get better & better! His ceiling is pretty much where he wants it to be as he is extremely self-motivated.

Comparisons to Miles is not meant as an insult.

Miles was a great finals player, brutal at the contest, very consistent, especially when we were middle of the road

He was just left behind when he was hurt by his inability to spread , just like Worpel will

Prolly cant ruck either

Worps is fine on the spread both offensively and defensively. Have you seen him play out of interest?

Taranto and Worpel are the best 2 young inside bulls in the comp.

Only an idiot would compare Taranto to Miles.

I come from a family full of Richmond supporters, I've watched a fair bit of Anthony Miles in my time, they are extremely dissimilar players.

Miles is a slow, workmanlike midfielder who relied on work in close to get the pill and the only way he got a free disposal was by drawing a high free.

Worpel, on the other hand, is 20 years old and has already had a season far exceeding any season Miles has ever played. He gets far more clearing ball, has far more break-away pace, and hits the scoreboard more regularly. Anthony Miles has been delisted once and thrown away for a packet of chips once, while as a 20 year old Worpel is coming off a B&F year and would likely go for an early 1st if he was ever to be traded.

You have a journeyman finishing 2nd. You have a bloke who strung a good end to the season winning easily and he wouldnt be in the top 50 players in the comp. Places 7 to 10 are going on the point end of the career and will be phased out soon. The one gun on that list is Sicily. Hardwick plays a role and I can see how he finished high and every team needs a player like that.

I don't agree with the sentiment it's all rainbows down at hawthorn ahead based off that. Theres going to be some challenging seasons to come if you cant lure some more big fish

Mate, a journeyman from Richmond came in and won your club goal kicking award, and a mature age VFL draftee came third. That's not a criticism on the quality of those players as Lloyd in particular has had a great season, but there's no need to discredit a player based on where he's come from.

All that matters is the year they've had, and this year, Henderson was tremendous - doesn't matter if he was a top 10 pick or a DFA.

Worpel does get more clearances because due to Hawthorns limited midfield he is given the opportunity to be at every contest, he does not have line breaking ability and your point on him hitting the scoreboard more regularly is just wrong, he and Miles both average .4 goals per game over their careers.

Is this a joke?

GWS made the grand final and have a superstar midfield and Taranto won their best and fairest
Hawthorn finished ninth, and have a limited midfield and Worpel won their best and fairest

You do realise it is alot harder for Taranto

1. To get in the GWS team than for Worpel to get into Hawthorns team?
2. To get game time in the midfield at GWS than for Worpel to get gametime in Hawthorns limited midfield?

Taranto was also GWS best player in the grand final

This is just common sense mate, stop being silly now.

This probably where I sit with all this

Very challenging times ahead for the hawks

Oh yes, let's compare two players careers when one has only played two seasons. At the same age, despite playing 2% less game time, Anthony Miles kicked no goals and no behinds. His average was dragged up by periods where Richmond actually had a half decent team and played him as a forward to try to keep him in, before eventually resigning him to the scrap heap where he belonged.

Anyway - not worth the argument with someone who has clearly not watched the kid play.
